Cleveland Browns (2014 Season)

Do we honestly think Hoyer holds any trade value after one good start against the Bungles and 3 INTs against a bad Vikings team? I find it hard to believe.
Have you seen the Texans roster of QBs? Hell, he could sign a start and trade clause right now with the Raiders. So no, ordinarily I wouldn't think so, but with the corpses of Ryan Fitzpatrick and Matt Shaub still running NFL teams...then yes.

Yeah, but they were corpses plucked off the FA pile. I just have a hard time thinking anybody, Texans included, would trade for a Brian Hoyer. I could be way off base, but I just think Browns fans overrate him, and his value. I've been on that train since last year. If he wasn't a "hometown" guy, I don't think he'd be thought of as highly given his skill and resume.

There have been some non-Browns people lending some credence to it...though yes, I think Browns people by nature will overrate him. I mean, ZOMG HOYER FOR ANDRE JOHNSON PAINT THE URINALS or something, you'll hear everything. But I do think a fairly young, somewhat promising QB who could be solid but not spectacular still has some value.

I'm no Hoyer 'fan', but he's shown to be far more capable than just about any QB we've had in a long time. Is he a franchise starter? Nope. Can he bridge the gap from now until that person can come along? I believe he can.

I won't make excuses for his game, that pick to Harrison was a bone headed throw and the same to which ever linebacker picked it off as well.
However the other pick was tipped at the line because Lavaou's habit of being blown back into the QB's lap. I have issue faulting Hoyer for that.

It's not a CFB grudge. Its a fact of life, the browns are a train wreck. I'm sorry if I don't hope they'll win every game, when this team has so many holes they'll be lucky to go 7-9. I just hope they will be entertaining and right now about the only entertainment we can except, 3rd new front office/HC/OC/DC in the last 3 years is train wreck. Would I get the same amount of enjoyment if they won, sure but I would prefer them win next year after Jony flames out so we dont have to sit around and listen to ESPN/CBS/FOX slobber all over him like they did with Tebow.... Jony is the badboy version of Tebow.

Yeah, that's pretty much what a grudge sounds like.

So, were you sulking in 2007 when the browns had a trio of cock suckers in Edwards, Winslow and Lewis putting up monster stats? Didn't think so.

I wasn't aware any of those players outside of Stonehands were drafted high by the organization? For the record, I was against taking Braylon because he was/is a scUMer. Had little to do with him as a player.

Has he, though? That's my point. I see a lot of Browns fans saying he's "proven" that he can be a decent QB. I've seen some say he could actually lead them to the playoffs this year (not here). I don't understand how those assumptions can be made after two games, one of which included three pics against a bad team. I know the QB situation here has been a parade of crotch crickets for a decade and a half, but I think there's some reaching going on here...

He is absolutely overrated on this board. I think many people here (myself included) let their disdain for Manziel's celebrity change their assessment of Hoyer's ability. People want to see things in Hoyer that he has not yet shown because they don't want Manziel to be the starter.

I'm saying this as sombody who is far from sold on Manziel's ability as a pro.

I guess I have a lot of grudges then.

My opinion is that Jony isnt an nfl QB and shouldn't have been drafted by the browns (which once again the FO panicked and traded up to get). Wanting to watch someone, whom I don't think can do the job, fail is a grudge? It's really fun to watch the Peter principle in effect when it goes in the dumpster.

He's a game manager. And for now, that's enough with the defense they've put together.... to at least reach .500 (yes, the Browns aspire to be the Indians... but that's how pathetic this front office is)
I'd rather have something stable like a mediocre Hoyer rather than the circus that Manziel / Grossman would turn into. We've seen that over-rated-1st-round-QB circus quite a few times already.

The problem I have with Manziel, beyond his annoying attitude is that he's not going to last the season.
I don't think he has the ability and concentration to be an NFL QB to begin with; but even if he is successful winging it with his legs... he's going to get injured sooner rather than later.

That begs the question "what now?" And it goes right back to the usual QB train wreck that we've had for a decade playing musical chairs with the QBs.
So I'd rather start a very mediocre, even below average, QB who can at least provide some ability to manage every other game effectively while we try to find the real solution.
Lean on the defense, lean on the running game... take baby steps... get to 0.500 and stop being a parody of an NFL franchise that belongs in a football remake of Major League.

So you'd prefer the team you cheer for to fail so you don't get proven wrong on a message board. That's a very logical position.

Again, though...this is all an assumption based on a two game tryout early last season in a different offense. Two games is not enough to convince me he's even a decent game manager. He's just as likely to fall flat on his face as he is to develop into an even mediocre qb based on the amount of evidence we have. All he's proven thus far is that he's better than Brandon Weeden.
