Cleveland Browns (2014 Season)

can we see some type of proof of this? I mean I understand who plays should be up to him... but perhaps he played Weeden to piss off the FO for not drafting a QB, or not playing Rainey? All i remember hearing from when he was hired is LOLbardi and Co were in charge of the roster... its how we ended up with 0 hits in the draft...

Well, if he's making PT decisions out of spite, then he needs to be fired. And don't ask for proof if you're just gonna immediately speculate BS after it. Anyway, I hadn't heard about McGahee/Rainey but, Chud and Norv definitely hooked their wagon to Weeden.

Fair enough on my speculation... still would like to hear some quotes as to what went down...

Mike Pettine said Friday that he "certainly would've backed out'' of the Browns' coaching search had they waited until after the Super Bowl to make their decision.

The more I read about this guy, the more I like him. Aggressive move there. He basically flopped it on the table and said hire me now or be done with it. Pretty smart, given he knew they would have to wait on Quinn. Hopefully, this is how his team plays on the field.

Something speically bitchtastic about a PC introducing a new HC where the owner and Team President both refuse to answer questions...what a fucking joke this FO is. That said, the coach said most of the right things. I liked several of his answers, but one question he really...and I mean really...punted on, and that was when someone (not MKC, she was asking what his favorite color for drapes is) asked him about what control or input he will have over the 53 man roster. He said "That is all being worked out now, so I am not qualified to answer that." UM WUT? You just signed a contract to be the HC or you wouldn't be a the PC, man. Basically that means he has zero input on the roster, and he didn't want to come out and admit that...and he was probably told not to say it.
You are right on the money despite what one of our fellow posters keeps on trying to say. I could not believe that he made that statement. I watched the PC and I think his answer was that it was part of the contract negotiations and they were not finalized yet.. How the hell could they not be finalized if he was the new coach.. It makes me wonder if he signed a blank document and just said fill in the numbers and terms of the contract. I mean I like the guy and I think he is a good hire even though I would have preferred Quinn or maybe Lovie Smith but besides those two guys I am fine with Pettine. Also, I have read and heard many times that Banner had full control over the 53 man roster. Granted Chud made the decision on who played but Banner made all the decisions on the 53 man roster and Lombardi Was not included in that decision process.

I also agree that I thought it was extremely strange that neither Haslam or Banner took any questions at that press conference. I guess they did not want to answer any questions about the hiring process which I can completely understand from their viewpoint. They would have been taken to the woodshed..

Didn't you get the memo? Banner stated himself that the organization is being run by the 3 stooges. He's Larry.
It would tickle me to no end if there was a word-substitution for Banner and Lombardi here on out with their admitted identities.

Note to Mike Pettine: Your quarterback will determine your success, not your defense - ESPN Cleveland

Long before new Browns coach Mike Pettine ascended through the NFL ranks as a defensive coordinator, he was a high school quarterback for his dad, a legendary coach, at Central Bucks West in Doylestown, PA.

“My dad was always a guy that fit the system to the players,” Pettine said. “The years I played for him, we didn’t have a big offensive line and we had some pretty good receivers, so we were actually ahead of the curve, spreading the field a little throwing the ball. I was a sprint-out quarterback -- pass-sprint, three-step, and then ran it a little bit.”

That experience will serve him well because Pettine’s new job depends not on defensive concepts but on quarterback play.

Is Mike Pettine a better defensive coach than was Butch Davis, Romeo Crennel or Eric Mangini? I doubt it. Those former Browns head coaches could draw up defensive schemes with the best of them. Their defensive acumen isn’t why they didn’t win.

There is some talk out there that Kubiak might become the Ratbbirds OC. WTF,, I thought he wanted to take a year off and that is why the Browns did not pursue him.

On the defensive side, looks like we are getting Pettine's high school alma mater for our coaches with O'Neill probably being named the DC and the Browns already getting the Bills former LB coach. However, they seem like quality hires.
