Article writer from Grantland suggests the Browns had a trade down in place that involved a 2nd round pick and 2 future 1st rounders.

I find that quite hard to believe considering the lack of elite talent this past year. That said, if there is an ounce of truth to this, Banner should be shot.

Saw something from MKC on twitter (sorry can't find it) that it fell through due to the other team backing out. Like you, can't really believe that was a serious trade discussion due to how lopsided it looks.

We'll never know, but it might have been a team that really wanted one of the OT's. When all were off the board by 6 the deal was dead.

I hope Mingo is right about Faulk and not just sticking up for another guy from LSU. If Faulk is a stronger and slightly less athletic than a couple first round tackles he might be a good replacement at RG. He might not be as good of a run blocker as a stockier guard, but in a shotgun heavy offense it might be better to have a a guy like him at OG even if he is a little tall.

I don't see Hoyer as being any less capable than Colt was, and you don't have the distraction of fans whining about Hoyer never getting a chance, and shitting on our actual starter while singing of the legend of Brian Hoyer.

Just another push for Weeden to make sure he steps it up and earns the job. Nothing to see here.

This season is pretty much on Weeden's shoulders. The defense will be better, which will help keep the Browns in more games, but the number of wins will be determined by Weeden. If the new offense suits him and he thrives the Browns will be looking at the playoffs. If he is the same or worse than last year he'll get replaced after a few games and the Browns will be looking at a first round QB next year.

I'm hoping that he steps up and the Browns can take their time looking for a QB of the future in the later rounds over the next few years rather than blowing a first round pick on one.

1. Nobody would shit on the starter if the starter didn't suck. QB rating was 29th in the league - 0.4 better than Chad Henne.
2. Nobody would create a distraction calling for the backup if the starter didn't suck. I'm not just talking about great quarterbacks... this even applies to the middling ones. How many people can name Andy Dalton's backup or Christian Ponder's backup or Sam Bradford's backup? The solution to the distractions is not for the Browns to get less recognizable backups, it's to get a starting quarterback that's at least league-average.
3. It's not as if McCoy was the only QB in Browns history who the fans clamored for in spite of not being good enough... or have you forgotten about Kelly Holcomb, Charlie Frye, Derek Anderson, Brady Quinn, etc.?
4. Hoyer is from Cleveland. You don't think there won't be some fans banging the drum for him to start at some point based on that fact alone?
5. Anyway, this is the Browns we're talking about here. It never really matters who we WANT to start but rather who is available to start. Hoyer will be under center by week 14 after all the QBs ahead of him on the chart are murdered by James Harrison.

1. Weeden didn't suck at the training camp that I attended. In fact, he was clearly superior to the other three QBs in camp, and the fools on the sidelines were still screaming for Colt. Even though Colt stared at the defensive line and took off running immediately after every snap, while Weeden stood in the pocket and delivered some very nice passes to a lot of different receivers. All of this occurred with both QBs running with the 1st team offense, and going against the 1st team defense. So it wasn't "Colt's weapons" that were the problem.
2. My hope (and this may just be wishful thinking) is that Shurmur caused most of Weeden's problems by micro-managing his throws. Weeden threw some INT's early on, but most of those were aggressive throws. Shurmur got into his head about making rsky throws (which is something you have to do against NFL defenses) and Weeden even said in an interview that no matter what decision he made, he couldn't win. By the end of the year, Weeden looked like he didn't know if he was allowed to make throws, and ended up throwing a lot of balls late, leading to many more interceptions. I just hope that Shurmur was the problem, and that he didn't completely break Weeden. Because I'd like to have an aggressive QB that can make the throws necessary to be a threat to the defense.
3. Browns fans are desperate for a good QB. I don't know if Weeden will be a lot better this season, but having an OC and Head Coach that may actually use his skills to their advantage, rather than make him play left handed, certainly won't make him worse.
4. Some is not the majority. Colt was a distraction. Not anywhere near a Tebow-like distraction, but a big distraction that a young team really can't afford to have.
5. If we end up with our third string QB playing, then, like I said in my earlier post, I don't think that we're any worse off than we would be with Colt...so Hoyer seems like a decent signing to me.

I might be wrong but I see the signing o fHoyer nothing more as a replacement for Lewis unless something happens to Weeden or Campbell. You need a semi-quality third string QB in the NFL and bringing in a Cleveland native is always a good thing as liars he does not see the field only in a emergency situation.
I think that getting rid of Colt was a good idea because even though Colt was a team player I think his relationship with Wneeden was not very good for the team.
On another note, I like the re-signing of Brandon Jackson. I thought that he never got a fair shot under the previous regime and he will be a nice third-down back if he gets a fair shot.
