Cleveland Browns (2013 Season)

This trade is so revealing it's alarming... says we should have no confidence in our drafting capabilities... says we have little confidence in our current roster... I assume the icing was in catching more public grief from Richardson who says we don't win because we don't use him enough... which we would if you weren't always hurt and you could catch a swing pass... highlights that the avg RB only has 2-3 yrs in the league and Brownies feel TR is already on his back half... shows that just one glaring hole in the line can make your entire unit crap...

Found it intriguing that Clarett tweeted for a tryout w Browns...
If I'm the GM, I am calling the Boren house and seeing if I can get both of them.. we need a G & a FB
Find it intriguing that it's impossible to find a serviceable G out there... and how dramatic a fall off there is in available talent

PS I love Peterson... but if I can have Joe Thomas for 12-14 years or AP for 4-6, I'm taking Joe Thomas...

if they aren't confident in their drafting abilities, they would be trading picks for established players, not the other way around.

When will these fuckers realize you don't fucking win by drafting QBs onto bad teams?

You build a winner by building the lines and getting a good running game. Look at every single one of the good, young QBs in this league right now.

Matt Ryan had Michael Turner
Phillip Rivers (when he was still good) had LDT
Flacco has Ray Rice
Luck had a good to great year from Vick Ballard
Kaepernick had Frank Gore
Aaron Rodgers had Ryan Grant
Matt Schaub had Arian Foster
Russell Wilson has whatshisface

The only QB in the league going back to 2000 who basically did not have a consistent running back to hand off too as a young QB was Brady, and even then they did the RB by committee thing well for years.

The pattern isn't so much having a "superstar" RB, but a good and consistent running game allows the young QB to establish himself and get used to the league.

Then look at the bad ones.

Gabbert has basically nothing without MJD, and MJD has been hurt most of the time he's been starting.
Josh Freeman has no running game.
Chad Henne basically had no running game in Miami last year unless Reggie Bush was trying to run around the edges

The list goes on. Yet here we are again, repeating the same damn cycle that we have been since 1999. Fuck these guys. I'm still a Browns fan, but I have no reason to pay any attention to them on Sundays now at least until draft day, except to laugh and ridicule.

which of those guys with the exception of SD, used a top 5 pick on that rb? 2nd rounders, trades, and late round or UDFA pick ups.

Even when MJD was healthy and running well two years ago, Jax was still terrible.
Doug Martin was a monster last year. But Tampa is basically the browns of the south on offense, despite having much more talent, which further illustrates why a qb trumps all, especially a 1st round rb.
Chad Henne was in Jax last year, not miami. and miami still isn't running the ball well, but somehow they are scoring points and are 2-0.

Weren't you the one that was applauding the trade up to take Trich?

LOVE THIS TRADE!!!!

Got rid of a bum I never wanted to draft in the first place. For a 1st round pick??? Who gives up 1st round picks for RBs in this league anymore??? Especially injury plagued RB that is afraid to fight for extra yards and miss huge cutback lanes?

He was never going to do anything great for the Browns and might as well load up for next year's draft which will make or break this team.

Also... calling it now, Indy still ain't making the playoffs and this will end up being a great trade for the Browns.

How many times have we heard this? Now, with LOLbardi involved, do you really think he'll make wise choices? They're on, what? Their sixth or seventh regime since coming back? Every one was gonna be different. None of them were. I've seen nothing that indicates it's any different this time.

I think many of us did. However, even if TR became anything, they still drafted a 29 year old QB in the 1st round. Most of us [Mark May] bricks when they did that, and whaddaya know? He was a massive flop. That indignity will haunt them for years.
I remember I was pretty adamant that it was stupid to trade up for him, even if Tampa wanted to do it. we could have had Claiborne (or someone else) and a just as affected Doug Martin at the back end of the first...

Maybe, but they were always gonna draft Weeden. That was the walrus' last ditch effort to save his job. So, Martin would have never happened.

It's the law of averages... we hire enough bums in the front office one of these years they can be a blind squirrel that finds a nut.

But really... at least we have the bullets to try. Not like T-Rich was helping this team, or would in the future.

And that is why I hated drafting a RB in the 1st round. RBs only last 3-5 years if you are lucky. And you can find as many good RBs in the 3rd-7th rounds than in the 1st.

They'll definitely get a wildcard if not win the division outright.

Call me crazy for saying this....but why not sign Tebow to a 1yr deal?

He may not win games, but he will at least try and make plays. And lets not forget that he has quite a big following, who will at least come to games (or at least maybe come)

And I know someone had mentioned it earlier after the news broke last night, try out Beanie
