Cleveland Browns (2013 Season)

When will these fuckers realize you don't fucking win by drafting QBs onto bad teams?

You build a winner by building the lines and getting a good running game. Look at every single one of the good, young QBs in this league right now.

Matt Ryan had Michael Turner
Phillip Rivers (when he was still good) had LDT
Flacco has Ray Rice
Luck had a good to great year from Vick Ballard
Kaepernick had Frank Gore
Aaron Rodgers had Ryan Grant
Matt Schaub had Arian Foster
Russell Wilson has whatshisface

The only QB in the league going back to 2000 who basically did not have a consistent running back to hand off too as a young QB was Brady, and even then they did the RB by committee thing well for years.

The pattern isn't so much having a "superstar" RB, but a good and consistent running game allows the young QB to establish himself and get used to the league.

Then look at the bad ones.

Gabbert has basically nothing without MJD, and MJD has been hurt most of the time he's been starting.
Josh Freeman has no running game.
Chad Henne basically had no running game in Miami last year unless Reggie Bush was trying to run around the edges

The list goes on. Yet here we are again, repeating the same damn cycle that we have been since 1999. Fuck these guys. I'm still a Browns fan, but I have no reason to pay any attention to them on Sundays now at least until draft day, except to laugh and ridicule.

I wouldn't worry. The Browns will use this next 1st round pick wisely.

2004 Kellen Winslow II
2005 Braylon Edwards
2006 Kamerion Wimbley
2007 Joe Thomas
2007 Brady Quinn

that's it.

i'm through.

i will root for Buffalo, i guess. i know a couple cool chicks from there.
edit: on second thought, if i'm jumping ship, i'm going full bandwagon. i lived in Indiana for a year, and the Colts are committed to winning.
i'm just glad that choke artist Payton isn't there any more. he's the QB version of John Cooper.
i could try to root for the Bengals, i guess, but that feels really weird. and unpleasant.

the ONLY way this shit will ever change is if we STOP PAYING FOR IT. they shit all over our eyes EVERY SEASON, and we still come back for more.
not me! not any more! fuck that! the owner is a fucking criminal. and how that organization treats its fans should be criminal.

This trade is so revealing it's alarming... says we should have no confidence in our drafting capabilities... says we have little confidence in our current roster... I assume the icing was in catching more public grief from Richardson who says we don't win because we don't use him enough... which we would if you weren't always hurt and you could catch a swing pass... highlights that the avg RB only has 2-3 yrs in the league and Brownies feel TR is already on his back half... shows that just one glaring hole in the line can make your entire unit crap...

Found it intriguing that Clarett tweeted for a tryout w Browns...
If I'm the GM, I am calling the Boren house and seeing if I can get both of them.. we need a G & a FB
Find it intriguing that it's impossible to find a serviceable G out there... and how dramatic a fall off there is in available talent

PS I love Peterson... but if I can have Joe Thomas for 12-14 years or AP for 4-6, I'm taking Joe Thomas...

But, but, but...it's a new regime! That's the biggest excuse I'm seeing. I cannot believe that after 15 years of non-stop suck, there are still people that expect this franchise to ever go anywhere. This is the same song and dance we heard when Butch came on. Same as when they brought in Savage. Same as when they brought in Holmgren. Now it's Banner and LOLbardi. They're different. They have a plan. It's going to work this time. Clowns fans would be much happier if they just embraced it for the comedy that it always has been. There is no plan that is going to work. There is no silver lining. They will NEVER win. It just isn't going to happen.

I'm not even of the opinion that TR was ever going to amount to anything here. It's not that trading him ruins them in the future. It's just that it's more of the same.

1999 Tim Couch Flop
2000 Courtney Brown Flop
2001 Gerard Warren Flop
2002 William Green 1 Decent Year, then...nothing
2003 Jeff Faine Couple decent years, free agent
2004 Kellen Winslow II 1 good year, nothing but headaches otherwise
2005 Braylon Edwards 1 good year, couldn't catch
2006 Kamerion Wimbley good rookie season, then nothing
2007 Joe Thomas All Pro
2007 Brady Quinn Major flop
2009 Alex Mack A couple decent years, appears to be regressing, probably gone after this year
2010 Joe Haden Hit, so far
2011 Phil Taylor Solid
2012 Trent Richardson 18 games, traded
2012 Brandon Weeden Major flop
2013 Barkevious Mingo TBD

That's horrific. You have to TRY to be that bad. Add in their comical record drafting in rounds 2-4 and this is, simply put, the worst franchise in organized sports.

when your bored during this weekends shitty ass college games... would you compile a list of consistent winner's first round picks from the same time period? I'd be curious to see, NE,Indy,Pitts some of the teams that are always good

It's pointless. Even when teams like Indy, Pitt, SF, Sea, and NE, miss on 1st rounders, they did very well drafting overall. They developed players. These are some of the guys the clowns drafted in rds 2-4 the past decade:

Mitchell Schwartz
Greg Little
Owen Marecic
Montario Hardesty
Colt McCoy
Brian Robiskie
Mohammed Massaquoi
Kaluka Maiavia
David Veikune
Beau Bell
Martin Rucker
Eric Wright
Travis Wilson
Leon Williams
Isaac Sowells
Charlie Frye
Brodney Pool
Antonio Perkins
Luke McCown

These are the guys picked in those rounds that contributed/are contributing:
Jabaal Sheard
Jordan Cameron
T.J. Ward
D'Qwell Jackson

Again, horrifying. Other teams find pro-bowlers/all-pros in those rounds. We've had about 4 decent picks in 10+ years. Go look at the 49ers drafts from 2007-now. It isn't even remotely comparable. The Cleveland Clowns are the black hole of the nfl and always will be.
