They're going to find out real fast we don't have Pittsburgh's front 7...at least back when they were elite, or even really good. Don't get me wrong, I think they will be much improved and a decent unit at creating pressure...but we need guys who can do more than bat down fluttering deep balls delivered late and pick off limp dick balls heaved up while the QB is getting hit...and other than Haden, I don't know that we have any more than that in pass coverage as it stands now. Ward and Bademosi are more run players and hard hitters than coverage guys.

pittsburgh has polumalu, but aside from him (which is a big aside), they never had top notch players in the secondary. they certainly haven't had a corner like haden back there in recent memory.

Top notch, no, they didn't have any perennial All-Pros at corner. But they did have guys like Townshend, Ike Taylor, Chris Hope, and Ryan Clark back there over the past 10 years (CB and FS), who won't be confused with Ronnie Lott but I would consider to be good pro starters. Only Ward (aside from Haden) qualifies for that right now, and Ward more for hitting and run defense than coverage.

Actually, to follow up- maybe that's what happens when you have Calvin Johnson? Sure he's there to save you, but when's he's not available and you have to rely on football skills that you haven't improved (because you have Calvin Freaking Johnson), then you end up looking very mediocre otherwise.

Just thinking outloud, because I'm not impressed with Stafford lately.

Looks like some pretty major injuries tonight. Hopefully they weren't as bad as they looked, but I wouldn't be surprised if Pinkston and Lewis are gone for the year.

Hopefully Hardesty's knee is clean and he can make it back for the season to be a backup running back. When healthy he is the second best back on the team especially if Lewis is out.
