I was told today that a couple mock draft web sites have the Browns taking Geno Smith #1 overall. I cannot see this happening, but who knows with the expected new regime coming in? I am not sold on Smith #1 and #2 they invested a 1st round pick in Weeden, and as of right now I am not ready to throw him on the Colt McCoy scrap heap.

I don't understand the love for the OSU guys though, I have to be honest. I don't see Fragel and Boren as NFL players. Maybe it's just me I guess...I mean a 7th round flier is fine, but I don't see them as viable prospects for the middle rounds.

Boren has been called an NFL ready FB for some time now.
He could be had in the 7th and be an instant impact blocker
Over that excuse for a football player in Marecic.

Going QB in round one again would be idiotic. Not with so many other holes. Plus (and this is me sampling some crow), I think Weeden has shown enough to stick it out for a little while. You have to see what he could do with some actual NFL receivers before drafting another QB.

They won't be taking another QB in the 1st round this year time around. Weeden has shown enough that he will get another year to prove/disprove the theory.

It is 89% over a 4 year period. 2013-2016 season

I don't know if Lerner knew he was going to sell the team or not. I don't know of many Jimmy Haslam's out there that want to spend their money on a losing football team. However, I guess only Lerner can answer that question.

I have been a proponent of bringing in some quality free agents almost every year. You can build partially through the draft but it will take a long time for this team to really be competitive trying to build through the draft. I don't think that Haslam as the patience to build through the draft and we have too many holes to fix and things have to get better a lot faster or they never will get any better.

Not sure where the conspiracy here is. Randy knew he was selling the team sometime before we did. You can't guarantee improvement, you can guarantee flexibility. If its a 50 million dollar difference in sale price, you do it.

I can see it going back to this past year's FA season. Their inactivity was very odd in my IMO.

I don't know about the hiring of Shurmur, that really struck me at the time as a form of nepotism more than anything else. I do wonder if the struggles encountered and the mounting fan dissonance has something to do with the sale though.

Coach is the same as FA, all about what kind of money you commit to. How much is gruden or cowher? How much is Shurmer? THink buyouts, etc.

Yeah but that won't be Lerner's money at least on the buyouts....

Basically we are going to see an entirely new management team after this season. I see no reason to not start with the day after Haslam takes over to announce Shurmur is "under evaluation" and then can his ass when they lose by 30 to the Ratbirds.

I think there is a kernel of truth in what you say...I know for a fact Holmgren had a foot out the door and was talked into giving the team this season. Very well could have been because of the sale and the complications of selling the team without a president.

I can't stand the idea of giving up on Weeden after 1 year. Hell, I couldn't stand giving up on Colt McCoy (even though we all know he wasn't the long-term answer) after he showed us quite a bit over the past couple of seasons. And that's with NO running game, and very little production out of the receivers. When Richardson was drafted, I thought to myself, "FINALLY, some breathing room for Colt McCoy!" It's not that I'm a huge Colt fan, but he was a servicable QB to have under center while the team filled much bigger holes on the team (CB/S, RB, WR, OL, maybe a LB etc.). Drafting Weeden, to me at least, just set the team back a tiny bit further. Look at the draft and take a look at players who went after Weeden who would have filled some of those holes pretty nicely. David DeCastro, Harrison Smith, Courtney Upshaw, LaVonte David are just a few that come to mind...

Sure it will. Liability on the balance sheet = Lower sale price. (its probably pretty straight up for executive/coaching positions, but believe me someone have calculated the value of free cap space, dead weight and all that nifty shit)
