Cleveland Browns (2012 season)

I think there is a kernel of truth in what you say...I know for a fact Holmgren had a foot out the door and was talked into giving the team this season. Very well could have been because of the sale and the complications of selling the team without a president.

i think there may actually be some merit to all of this. it came out that randy lerner had a 10 year moratorium on selling the team once he took it over. the very second that 10 years was up he was selling this team off, and was willing to foot the bill for the current contracts of the FO members and coaching staff. it wouldn't be remotely surprising if cleveland wasn't overly active in FA because of the pending sale.

haslam gets to step in with a team that actually has some young talent at a few positions, and a ton of cap room, with no FA's forthcoming that are really worth being retained in any capacity. and, he's not on the hook for anything if he cleans house. that's a pretty sweet deal, especially if cleveland actually starts an upward trend on the field.

Heard this morning that over the last week other than his throwing of players under the bus during his post game presser, he has:

- Confronted a former coach over comments about the team (assuming Rutigliano)
- Left an angry voice mail for Tony Grossi after he was critical of him for his comments about the Browns 95 special.
- Dropped several F Bombs on another local reporter when he pressed him for reasons why Richardson missed practice last week.

Clearly Shurmur has lost it, he is in full panic mode and is becoming a huge distration/problem for this team outside of his incompetence as a head coach/team leader. I had stated earlier that I was unsure firing him during the season would be a good move, now I am convinced he has to go the day Haslam takes over.

When you pay players millions... and they drop passes with regularity or throw interceptions on 3rd and 1 in the red zone ... I personally find it therapeutic for a coach to acknowledge he sees it too and is just as aggravated as we fans are

Every coach of all time has been aggravated by that type of stuff. No need for acknowledgement. Saying that shit to the media won't do anything but hurt. Makes it look like he doesn't have his players' backs.

If a multi-million dollar athlete needs the coddling and fake protection from his coach
then he isn't the one you need when pressure of the super bowl/playoffs are on the line

We don't need any more Braylon Edwards

I'm all about effort.. he could oust Skrine... but the effort is there... not all the physical tools

These receivers have all the physical tools

Agreed, but there is a better way to do it than naming the person specifically in front of the press. You have to be tactful about it. Do you think you would ever see Belicheck or Jeff Fisher slam a player in front of the press? Especially their rookie QB? It just comes off as trying to cover his own ass. If he hadn't already lost the respect of his players, this will surely accomplish that.

Players have to want to play for a coach. Players are not going to want to play for a coach that's going to sell them out in the press. It's one thing if he had taken his share of the blame in the past and was just fed up with it. I cannot recall this clown ever taking ownership of his, or his coaching staff's mistakes. The guy is a walking textbook on poor leadership.

Well said. Not sure this guy will ever get even another NFL assistant job, let alone another opportunity to be a head coach.

This pretty much sums it up.

there's not much to go on if you're trying to defend pat shurmur. but, there is quite the trend with recent head coaches and front office folks lashing out at the cleveland media and fans. it's most likely because the cleveland media and fan base is one of the biggest collection of functional retards condensed into a singular market. quite frankly, it's surprising that this didn't happen sooner with the moron brigade this guy has to face every day.
