Cleveland Browns (2012 season)

Maybe, just not sure what that helps or solves. This season is basically lost...again. Making a mid-season coaching change just adds more drama to a very young team. I mean bringing in an interim coach is not going to save the season and they are not going to junk this ridiculous West Coast system mid-season and develop a whole new play book. To me the entire philosophy of the organization needs changed, and that is not something that can be fixed over night or mid-season.

Yep - but the incompetence that Shurmur has shown needs to be addressed.

Firing him now or firing him later really won't make a difference, however, I do think that firing him now will take any remaining pressure off of the players and just allow them to go out and play.

Greg Little should be cut BTW.

Agree that Little should not even smell the field once Benjamin and Massaquoi are healthy again. He's got the God given gifts to be excellent at the position, but right now he's got Chuck Knoblauch syndrome when it comes to catching the ball.

We have too many holes to fill them thru free agency... players would command too much... and be too old/too far along in their careers.. to integrate all of them into a unit that would be a serious contender before their diminished skills are glaring

we're in deep do...

we need to hit a couple drafts like the Steelers of old.. who used to find studs in the 14th round... and end up with 12 starters & 3 All Pros in one draft.. only semi-kidding font

but dang.. what I wouldn't do for ONE WR worth a [Mark May]

cleveland signs one FA wr that can catch and one CB. they draft a pass rusher in the 1st and a FS in the 3rd.

Don't forget a RG as a FA. I'm willing to roll with Pinkston and Schwartz getting better with age.

I'd also like to see them draft Boren in a lower round to play FB. It would be nice to have a FB that could catch a pass out of the backfield when needed. Fill in the rest of the draft with bodies on defense.

the 49er's and saints laugh at this notion. at some basic level, a coaching staff has to play to the strengths of their players and put them in a position to succeed.

Yeah, a number of moribund franchises have managed quick turnarounds in the last decade by smart coaching hires and prudent personnel moves. The mother[censored]ing Arizona Cardinals played in the SuperBowl. The CARDINALS!

Yep, you play to your player's strengths, not force them into a "system." Especially one that has run it's course like the West Coast. If only Shurmur were smart enough to put his players in the best position to be successful. :smash:

I would:

do as tsteele said...
once I figure out if ANY of our WRs do indeed have a strength
till then, I would cover their face masks with velcro and make Weeden throw a nerf ball at their heads

draft Fragel in a later round... because I sincerely think this kid has huge upside...

doctor Clowney's birth certificate and draft him in Round 1

hate to say it.. but USC really does have some fine WRs

I was told today that a couple mock draft web sites have the Browns taking Geno Smith #1 overall. I cannot see this happening, but who knows with the expected new regime coming in? I am not sold on Smith #1 and #2 they invested a 1st round pick in Weeden, and as of right now I am not ready to throw him on the Colt McCoy scrap heap.

Trade down (I know, I know) and get the positions we need, yes (WR, CB, FS, G). Those are all late first round and second round positions, so if we can get some picks for the #1 (which we are almost guaranteed) we had better take it.

As for the WRs, I think Gordon is a project worth continuing with. I think Little now is basically Gordon with no upside, at least at WR. Benjamin and Norwood can fill roles, but we need at least one top flight guy. Fuck, look at what Alshon Jeffrey is doing in Chicago with Marshall on the other side, and everyone said we didn't want him (and we didn't).

I don't understand the love for the OSU guys though, I have to be honest. I don't see Fragel and Boren as NFL players. Maybe it's just me I guess...I mean a 7th round flier is fine, but I don't see them as viable prospects for the middle rounds.
