Cleveland Browns (2012 season)

We're either competing for a playoff spot or we aren't. Fact is, if we're not competing for a playoff spot and he's still the starter after years, that's more fucking wasted time.

You say it's a success if he's starting for more than 2 years. I say it's a success if we're making the playoffs in 2013 and beyond. But it's probably good for you to lower your expectations... since it isn't going to fucking happen.

you do realize how this argument started right? a comment by me stating that if Weeden started for more then 2 years then in this depressing franchise that we call the Cleveland Browns, it would be considered a success...in any other franchise in the league this would not...but we are not any other franchise in the league...this is cleveland...i admire the fact you said that you would only consider it a success if we make the playoffs...nice to set the bar high...but lets step back into the real world...and compromise...how about if Weeden wins 7 games thats a success? i would consider that a success in my opinion...and there is the baby steps needed for the next season after that...if hes a complete failure, which could very well happen, then by year 2 he will be gone...so yes i do consider it a success if he makes it past year 2

I'm going to read that as apparently comparing Brandon Weeden to Andrew Luck. You sir have a future in the Browns front office if you think the situations would at all be similar.

thats the problem...u didnt read...AKAK asked if we had the #1 pick who would we take or would we trade down...since the big consensus on this board is that you build the team first, then select the franchise QB later...this was the big argument when we actually had a chance at getting RGIII...everyone was like, "NO! Dont take a QB! we need to build the OL and get WR's!! then hopefully in 3 years when we have the pieces a great QB will fall in our lap!" it doesnt work that way and im of the opinion it shouldnt work that way...you take a franchise QB if you think he is the one, and if you have to take him with your first pick then you do it...this argument has nothing to do with Weeden

Bullshit. He has very little time to prove himself. He's one month OLDER than Aaron Rodgers. He can't afford the same old rookie growing pains if he's going to last in this league. If he can't step in and make at least a similar impact that Dalton made (at the age of 22), then the whole fucking front office needs to take a long walk off a short plank.
Bullshit? No QB can afford growing pains in today's NFL - you've got to play well early. As I demonstrated above, if a QB is going to be Super Bowl caliber, then he'll most likely show it by year seven (65%), and almost certainly by year nine (84%). It's not unreasonable to assume that Weeden will last for seven to nine years in the NFL.

I think they're both shit-sandwiches.
You would have a bit more credibility if (a) you weren't so obviously emotionally distraught, and (b) you offered up some reasonable alternative that isn't a "shit sandwich".

And to say that Weeden is a shit sandwich is blatantly unfair. Scouts and talent evaluators almost universally agreed that he was a late first / early second round talent.

I understand the frustration of Browns fans, but this simply isn't the time to be jumping off the 480 bridge. The Browns got two very solid players in round one and greatly upgraded both the RB and QB position. With the #37 pick, they will almost certainly get a top WR (Reuben Randle, Stephen Hill, Alshon Jeffrey, Brian Quick) or OT (Cordy Glenn, Mike Adams, Jonathan Martin, Bobbie Massey), or maybe an impact LB (Courtney Upshaw). In fact, there's a decent chance that one of the WR's or OT's will slip to #67. As long as the Browns don't make some oddball picks in rounds two and three, this will be a very good draft to build for the future. And at this point, your only reasonable expectation for this team is to build a solid contender for the 2014 season.

Wish I shared you're optimism. As someone else said, I really hope I'm eating crow. Remembering that the #22 pick was really the falcons 1st rounder helps.

Hopefully they find some quality players from here on out.
