Cleveland Browns (2012 season)

Then kindly grace us with what the value is instead.

Value is not trading up 1 spot to draft a player that would have been there.

Pre-trade:
3. Minn: Kalil
4. Cle: Richardson

Post-trade:
3. Cle: Richardson
4. Minn: Kalil

edit: Bottom line, Cleveland got played. Least it didn't cost them much.

The Browns have WAAAAY to many holes to fill to waste trading picks to move up one fucking spot.
Let's take a look at the stellar talent drafted there in previous drafts:

118. Jalil Brown, CB, Chiefs
139. Brandon Burton, CB, Vikings
211. Bruce Miller, RB, 49ers

118. Garrett Graham, TE, Texans
139. John Conner, RB, Jets
211. Marquis Johnson, DB, Rams

118. Stanley Arnoux, LB, Saints
139. Colin Brown, OT, Chiefs
211. Chris Ogbonnaya, RB, Rams

The only recognizeable name in that list is Ogbo, who was released by the rams.

They weren't worried about Minnesota. They were worried about who else would trade for their pick.

As you said, they gave up table scraps to make sure they got their guy, and some of those scraps were spares.

No. They didn't get "played". They either make the trade, or watch Tampa make it and lose out on the guy they wanted. Just because minny still gets their guy doesn't make it a bad deal. Why do people always think a trade has to have a "winner" and a "loser"?

Anyway, I'm happy they finally have a player worth building around. Now, cover him head to toe in bubblewrap.

Just playing the "What if" game that had been started by someone else. You can't look at it only one way.

Yes, because of course those picks have every conceivable effect on this draft. Got it.

Might want to think about giving him some sort of Penicillin injections too to stave off the inevitable Staph infection.

The value is in not sitting back while Tampa Bay steals your lunch money. The fact that they have now traded out of the #5 spot just screams "Plan B". They were after him, the Browns stepped up and got him.

Or......

3: Tampa: Richardson
4: Cleveland: Claiborne? Blackmon? (Tannehill!)
5: Min: Kalil

I hate giving up picks, but they gave up garbage to get the guy they really, really wanted. I just don't see it as giving up too much to get the guy they need.

What if he becomes Ki-Jana Carter and Blackmon becomes great? Or Claiborne the next Deon Sanders?

What if he's Adrian Peterson and Blackmon and Claiborne are busts? We can do this all night.

The fact is the Browns gave up next to nothing to move up and get him. Had they paid a big price, that would be different. They didn't.

You don't recognize John Connor, the starting fullback for the Jets? Mainly because he is nicknamed the Terminator, but he is a starter.
