Cleveland Browns (2012 season)

IMHO drafting a QB before the 4th round that isn't named Luck or Griffin stupid at this point... after those 2 you can probably find a project just as nice after the rosters get cut down in the fall. I'm all for Claiborne at 4 then the rest of the picks until the 4th being on O. Hell as long as we dont draft Tannehill before the 4th I'll likely be happy with the draft...

And you actually hit on my biggest beef of the FA period. While it would have been nice to get a WR in FA or a RB, realistically considering the state of the team, getting a WR that would be a difference maker wasn't possible....why go to Cleveland? There is overpaying for a FA and I don;t know if the Browns could have overpaid enough to get a WR via free agency. But the could have overpaid and brought a RT in during free agency, then that simplifies the draft some.

Look, I can admit that Heckert knows more about football than me. I also like the "build through the draft" plan, I really do. But "building through the draft" and bringing in a RT via free agency, filling a big hole on the team via free agency, are not mutually exclusive. I really, really wanted a RT free agent signed so that one area of need could be crossed off the list heading into the draft. I was fine with now WR or RB, just give me a stinking RT! Logically, that makes planning for the draft easier as there is one less big hole to worry about filling.

My final bitch about the FA period....at least until April 30th .

All I will say is it REALLY pissed me off they didn't sign Eric Winston. Or at least go hard after him. One great place to put your FA dollars is the Offensive line. Especially when a very good starter comes out into the market. You sign Winston and our O-Line is basically set and you can draft a couple of guards in the late rounds for depth. Now they need to address it early in the draft (first 3 rounds)

The more and more I hear chatter pick up about Tannehill the more upset I get. The main problem I have with it is that he won't make the team better from day 1. I want Richardson but understand and wouldn't hate it if they took Blackmon or Claiborne because they would make the team better today. Tannehill doesn't help us until 2013 and that's being generous. We need players to contribute TODAY. Have you seen our schedule? Having a number 4 pick on the sidelines the whole year won't help us win games in 2012.

i don't think they'll take tannehill, but your entire premise is focused on the short term, making it totally flawed.

Flawed to want a back that is a game changer for 5 years? I agree that it's on the short term side I still think it will be a better move than if we drafted Tannehill in the long term. Richardson is a no-doubt stud. Tannehill could be Ryan Leaf. I just don't think Tannehill will ever be that special in the NFL.

or richardson could be montario hardesty 2.0.

and it still isn't as good of a long term investment as taking claiborne at #4. but that's not an instant gratification pick.

Naw, Richardson is more likely to be like Ki Jana Carter and see his knee get blown out since we have no QB and/or WRs so the defense is keying on him the whole game.

But, I think most of us have zero faith in the clowns to do so.

Thus I have 100% faith that if we pick Richardson that in his 1st game he will rush for 200 yards and then on the last play of the game blow out his knee :paranoid:

Comparing Hardesty and Richardson is not a fair comparison. For a college RB, Richardson is established and HEALTHY. The front office traded UP in the late 2nd /early 3rd, can't remember which, to roll the dice on Hardesty who could not stay healthy throughout his college career at Tennessee. Pretty good back WHEN healthy but not reliable for extended periods.

Now with that said and the emergence of the Browns schedule for 2012, it is very possible for the Browns to be at or near the TOP of next years draft.

So for this year, you continue to add pieces where needed, RB, WR, OL, LB, CB, S and pick up your franchise NEXT year instead of rolling the dice with Tanneyhill.

I would be OK with Richardson or Clairborne at 4 BUT Blackmon I have cooled on over the past few weeks. I would be OK with a trade down but if the Browns stay pat, I would go with either of the following:

Richardson, RB
Wright, WR
Perry or Branch, DE

3rd round - Schartz or Stephenson, OT

OR

Clairborne, CB
Martin, OT
Martin, RB

3rd - McNutt, WR

For those that come straight into this thread without looking at the forum listings, here's a new vBet for the first player selected in the 2012 NFL Draft. If they trade the #4 pick before the selection, the bet will pay out based on whomever they take first, whether it's at #2, #8, #22, or wherever. Based on a request from Bucklion.

Richardson, Tannehill or trade down. i dont get the hate for Tannehill he has all the physical tools, people rip on him for throwing INTs or not winning alot of games but its not 1 on 22, his D sucked so he had to throw alot in college and teams knew that and sat back on it.
