Cleveland Browns (2012 season)

I'd rather have Xavier Rhodes

Think he will have to move to safety. He's just gotten beat so badly the second half of the year, especially Georgia Tech, to the point he isn't even being considered top 15 anymore. He's lucky a lot of the times he was beat, the completion was not made.

Here are some possible free agent CBs & Safeties from a poster on the OBR forum. The comments are his and we have about $35 million of cap money that can be spent this year on free agents and if Haslam is true to his word and wants to win now that he needs to spend some money. I will also list some pass rushing DEs and 4-3 linebackers that are potential free agents.

Corners:

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (Philly) ? In my mind he has to be our number 1 target in FA. He would provide a solid starter opposite Haden.

Chris Houston (DET) ? Decent vet corner, nothing special, but better then what we have.

Sean Smith (MIA) ? Young player with big upside. Probably will be expensive.

Safeties:

Jairus Byrd (Buff) ? He?ll be the best ?center fielder? on the market. 4 years in the league and has consistently produced. 18 career interceptions.

Kenny Phillips (NYG) ? Injured this year, still young and probably could be had for decent money. Most definitely an upgrade.

Madieu Williams (WAS) ? An older option at 31 years old, Solid player for the skins this year.

Dashon Goldson (SF) ? another big money candidate, and in the same class as Byrd.

Pass rushing DEs:

Cliff Avril (DET) ? He?ll be one of the top FA on the market, as pass rushers usually are.

Michael Johnson (CIN) ? Mid tier prospect, with big upside.

Osi Umenyiora ( NYG) ? if the Browns are looking for a stop gap, he may be the guy, but if that was the route they go, I would rather resign Parker.

Linebackers 4-3:

Erin Henderson (MIN) ? Solid player for Vikings and probably could be had for decent money.

Phillip Wheeler (OAK) ? Probably the best OLB on the market.

DRC would be a great #2 - but he's a nightmare tackler. I don't mean that as a good thing.

I'd love to see Byrd - but Buffalo will re-sign him.

Avril would be a bit pricey. Not sure how many more years he'd be effective but its worth a look.

Osi a few years ago would have been nice. He's on the wrong side of 30 and a pretty steep paycheck. Might as well just keep parker.

Out of that list I'd go after Byrd and Avril. That would make Detriot take a DE in the draft and if this front office likes Milliner - would give us a hawking FS - another pass rusher and a young #2 CB.

That makes this defense the best unit in the AFC North. Possibly one of the better ones in the AFC if we can get some athletic ability at OLB.

edit: Just remembering - wasn't Avril franchised? That would cost a ton of cash to bring him in.

Looks like Haslam is getting serious. Don't know if Whisenhunt will be the next coach but the Browns certainly could do worse. At least he will understand the Steelers rivalry if he is hired.
CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Browns are interviewing former Arizona Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt again today in Cleveland, a league source told The Plain Dealer.

The Browns also interviewed Whisenhunt, 50, last week in Arizona and really liked him.

The fact that the Browns are interviewing him for a second time means they are probably getting serious about hiring him.

Of course Cleveland would hire a retread whose best season was 9-7. See you guys in 2 years to talk about our next head coach.....

Would feel the worst for T-Rich though. Whisenhunt treats the run game like it's an illegal play.....

:slappy:

Sorry, Litl, not laughing at you. Laughing at ending up with a turd retread when everyone was expecting a "splash".

At least they aren't rushing into a hire.
Because they all fucking suck.

Rushing into a [Mark May]ty hire or taking your time
And getting a [Mark May]ty hire ends up being the same thing.

Exactly. Call me cynical, but I have a sneaky suspicion we'll be right back here again in three years. Even before the inevitably disappointing hire.

True, but the longer the position hasn't been filled, it gives me hope for a top quality candidate

They're are several other candidates that have shown success
In their positions before Wisenhunt. No point in bringing in a
Coach that needed a legend at QB to simply get a wild-card spot.

grossi posted an article about zimmer and what i did like about him is that he called bobby patrino a "fucking bitch"...other then that i dont give a fuck who our coach is
