Cleveland Browns (2012 season)

Oh, unreasonable wet-dream, yes!!!! Then I saw the ... L word, name. In which case I could give a damn if God himself would part the heavens and become head coach with JC as the offensive coordinator - if any of it means to have Lombardi making personnel decisions; I say no.
I am really not that concerned about Lombardi as long as we get a good HC because in the hierarchy of this organization the HC is going to be making a lot on the personnel decisions. At least that's the way I have read it.

But you still want a guy that has a history of predicting talent to put together your draft board. I still don't know if I buy all the Lombardi rumors. I think once they find a coach they will work with him to find the GM. If Lombardi was the guy they would have hire him by now.

I agree with Hawg on this. If Lombardi was such a sure thing, he'd be in place. That said, even with a HC that has a say on draft - I'd like to have a GM in place with a proven history of bringing in talent.

Drafting Jamarcus Russell alone takes you out of that conversation.

the coach will have the final say on the 53 man roster and training camp cuts and so on, instead of the GM. That's the big change in the pecking order. Tom Heckert used to have that role. The coach will also be a voice in the draft room, but the picking and FA selection process will still mostly be GM duties.

So, even if the GM has a somewhat diluted role, come draft day, you don't want him presenting the coach with a bunch of shitty choices.

you mean using a 1st on a drunk kicker, refusing to let belichek draft warren sapp, then trading that pick to get craig powell, and drafting touchdown tommy vardell don't buy you any collateral?

I mean, it's not like he's said off the wall things like joe haden isn't good enough to be a good nfl corner, or that blaine gabbert is the top player in the draft, or that cleveland should take jimmmy claussen #7 overall and not Haden, or that the Jets were smart to move up and take mark sanchez, or that guys like brian orakpo and hakeem nicks were bad picks.......

Hire him.

Do the opposite of everything he says.

I didn't bother too list all of that, figured (arguably) the most colossal bust of all time (I'm not talking about just Russel's weight either) would really be enough...

But yeah, Touchdown Tommy is just the icing on the cake.
