Cleveland Browns (2012 season)

I posted this a couple weeks but to lazy to go and find it but Haden was interviewed and he said that Buster was the fastest and probably strongest DB on the team. He said that he would be a very good slot cover guy.

With regards to McClain, the Raiders organization is a shambles that I don't think they have any idea what they are doing. If I were the Browns, I would do a background check on him and if they can fit him in under the rookie salary cap I certainly would take a flyer on him. They are living very dangerously without any backup to Jackson at MLB.

Being fast and strong means little without proper footwork,
Instincts and ball skills. The kid doesnt trust his speed or
His eyes, its that simple.

I was curious why McClain was let go. If it turns out serious, then no thanks.
If its something Heckert feels could pass, maybe he can crunch
Some numbers. Our LB's are thin. Plus again..he can be a pass rusher.

If I'm looking at his contract correctly it looks like McClain's contract would pretty much pay him 4 mil next year and around 6 the year after that. It just depends if the Raiders are still on the hook for any of the 23 mil he was guaranteed. His 2012 salary is around 1 mil so if the Browns would only be on the hook for what's left of that I would claim him and see what he can do. If it isn't going to work they could cut him and not have to pay the last 2 years if they aren't guaranteed.

A passing down DL of Sheerd, Rubin, Winn, and McClain would be pretty good.

I got this list of free agents from a post on the OBR forum so I am not sure if it is complete or not. Here is the list and my thoughts.

1. Josh Cribbs (would only keep him if he gave a hometown discount) I think Travis Benjamin could fill his role as a returner.
2. Phil Dawson (I want to keep him but I don't know if we can designate him again)
3. Austin English (let him walk)
4. Scott Fujita (let him walk faster)
5. Reggie Hodges (let him walk if he wants)
7. Brandon Jackson (let him walk)
8. Kaluka Maiava (try and keep him because he has improved with playing time)
9. Mohammed Massiquoi (let him walk)
10. Jordan Norwood (let him walk)
11. Chris Ogabonnaya (let him walk)
12. Jaqua Parker (try and re-sign him)
13. Alex Smith (re-sign him)
14. Emmanuel Stephens (try and re-sign him but depends upon the price)
15. Raymond Ventrone (let him walk)
16. Ben Watson (re-sign him)
17. Eddie Williams (I don't even know who this guy is)
18. Christian Yount (same as Williams)
19. Sheldon Brown (try and re-sign him only if the price is right and only if he is willing to play free safety)

i let watson and brown walk. neither gives you great production for what they are paid, and neither is on the right side of 30. the only way you consider keeping parker is if he agrees to another one year deal, which he won't.

as for asomugha, his contract is good, and bad. it's bad in the sense that he's getting paid $15 million a year. it's good in the sense that there was no signing bonus, and his guaranteed money is less than $5 million per, making him easy to cut.

since he's likely to be released, i think philly would pick up the $4 million guaranteed next year, then whoever claims him would pay the rest for the year. it's a good situation if you want to pony up the cash for one year, and try to work out a new deal with him that gives him more guaranteed cash, but less money overall. so, it could be a good fit for cleveland. they have the cap room. banner signed him before. cleveland certainly needs another cb.

by the by, for as much consternation as there was about joe banner, how smart was this guy? philly fans hated him for not paying dawkins, which was smart. they hated him for not caving into desean jackson's demands, which was smart. the eagles went apeshit in FA two years ago, but can get out of the contracts of vick and aso with very little cap hit, thereby allowing them to sign mccoy long term. pretty shrewd.

He used to be the best CB in the NFL. He's lost a step, that much is clear.
I always thought he was better than Revis because of his willingness to be aggressive in run support.

I can't see Philly keeping him past this year.

edit: I also do realize how large his contract will be and such. It's a pipedream. Plus he's 32.
Not a comment meant to be taken seriously, in all honesty.
