Cleveland Browns (2012 season)

Do you think they won't somehow blow their draft position? The Browns even suck at sucking.

The people who run the Browns are simple animals. Once the signals that they are in trouble finally reach their feeble brains, they will start to feel threatened and fight like hell for 3-4 weeks - long enough to win a few meaningless games - before they crap themselves and die.

Let's face it, the most interesting thing we have to look forward to in this year's draft is the return of King Rhabuf to extol the virtues of Dayne Crist as the #4 pick.

That's why Haslam needs to start canning people to destroy the will of the current staff to fight. Start with Big Mike as soon as he takes over next month and then follow with Shurmur with 4-5 week left in the season.

After watching the highlights of the USC Stanford game Barkley just seems like another Quinn/McCoy/etc. to me so I don't know if this is the year to take a QB at the top. What are the other options going to be or am I off on my Barkley analysis

After three games I get the feeling that the only way that Weeden will be successful in the NFL will be if you have the OL to make sure he doesn't get touched and the defense to make sure that he is playing the whole game with the lead since he seems to want to throw an int as soon as the pressure is on at the end of the game.

There have been some interesting calls on 92.3 today. I listened to it during lunch and I'm not even a Browns fan.

Lots of people ranting about how Buffalo fans took over the stadium at the end of the game.

They talked about that on Browns Tonight last night too...players were commenting about it. Cribbs said it was embarrassing but that they needed to feel that embarrassment in order to motivate them to play better so that Browns fans can do the crowing, etc. Donovan was very candid last night...he said this was a place where opposing teams bring their fans and have a party, and it is embarrassing and won't change until the Browns can win at home. Can't be any clearer than that.

the real comparison will be what wr's will be on the board come the top of the 2nd which could be substituted for gordon. this year's wr crop is far from awe inspiring by a long stretch. you started to see some glimpses of what gordon can do yesterday. everyone knew he would be a project. but if he finishes the year with 50 catches or so, then it's not all bad.

I agree with this. The Browns needed a WR in the worst way, but we won't be able to judge Gordon until we can compare his 2013 numbers with the rest of the WR's that get drafted next year. He has the physical tools to be the guy, but he is a project. It's better for his development to spend this year with the Browns than at Utah or where ever he was going to go to school. I still think if you put one of the top few QB's in the league in Cleveland he could win with the offensive talent.

Weeden might actually turn to be a solid game manager or a remotely capable QB. The near completion to Jordan was a throw that none of our past QB's (save for Holcomb) would have attempted.

The Oline needs serious work. Like I said, a new LG & RG are absolutely needed.

Gordon has shown some promise, same with Benjamin out of the slot. Little can go. I was one of the few here that was excited/advocating for him. He's extremely inconsistent. When he does make a play you see that stupid ass Bolt reference shortly followed by another drop. This team doesn't need that shit. Time to go.

Defense badly needs another CB and then FS. Injuries and suspensions have really held them back. Sheard I thought had a pretty good game though considering the Bills Oline is pretty decent.

I'm usually the first person to scream fire and brimstone. But we've had some solid drafts. Jury is out on Weeden. We obviously have a very talented RB. I love Obannaya's versatility in the backfield and in the slot.

Haslam is right, we do have some young talent. Just need to infuse that with competent leadership, some veteran experience and perhaps some of that magic from the Steelers organization that the Rooney's sold their souls for.

edit: Houston has a good team, New Orleans has a good team. Hell Arizona has been to a Super Bowl. I fucking refuse to believe this
city can't somehow gather some type of sports success in football. We've had it before. Just have to hold on and believe it can happen again.
I truly do hope and pray this ownership change will be what we've missed. But I've been wrong before...

I'll give Weeden credit that he can make some throws than no other Browns QB has been able to make, but he needs to get better when they need to score at the end of the game. What is he 3 for 3 with ints?

Honestly that isn't all too bad, especially for a Rook. Regardless of age.

I agree he needs to get better - he's done a fair better job of taking care of the ball. The quick decision making and late game throws obviously need improvement. Again, what rookie doesn't?

Agree with your Barkley assessment. I do not believe that he has a very strong arm and is pretty immobile as far as moving around in/out of the pocket. His immobility is very similar to Weeden's. I don't think we should take a QB this year. We have so many needs we need to use the draft picks.

On the up and up - if we do get the #1 overall pick (please god) that sounds like primo trade space to move down and get additional first rounders.

Someone somewhere will be dumb enough to take Barkely and in the process give up a ton for him.

That would be the best case scenario in my mind. Give me a CB, OG, S, OLB, DE in the first 4 rounds and I'll be happy. I'd love to get Boren to play FB since he seems like an upgrade in every way over Marecic. It would also be great if they could pull a Tom Brady out of their ass in a late round.

The past 2 drafts have been good IMO so the holes to fill aren't as bad as they were when the current FO took over.

unless weeden totally shits the bed, the browns aren't going to take a qb in the 1st. haslem seemed pretty satisfied with the talent on offense, fully knowing that they definitely need some experience.

here is the real key. with fujita, brown, cribbs, parker, dawson, young, hodges, bjax, and a few others i'm sure i'm leaving off, cleveland will shed upwards of $20 million in cap this offseason. with the exception of dawson, and to a much lesser extent, brown, cleveland isn't getting any contributions of note from any of those guys. every single one could walk and nobody would know the difference. couple that with the $13 million in cap space right now, and cleveland could actually be a player in the FA market.

So, we'll see if the owner gives the green light on spending some cash. if you actually believe the talent is there on offense, this is the offseason to sign some guys. the only guys of note up for extensions are mack, haden, and ward. being that all three are on the old rookie pay system, their extensions won't really take a ton of cap room.

It would be nice to see them bring in a couple good FA's. In addition to my list before they could use a second OG and OLB at the very least. It would be great if they could fill one of the major holes with an established player rather than a 3rd or 4th round pick. I would also bring Dawson back until he can no longer clear a 40 yard FG.

there are some positions where it simply wouldn't make sense to add another rookie. OG is one of them. Guards are also usually easy to find on the FA market and aren't terribly expensive. The other spot IMO is FS. you've got gipson and hagg, both of which the browns like, neither of which is ready to play on sundays yet. adding another rookie to that mix is also unproductive. you could probably even make the same argument for CB opposite Haden.

I think the two obvious spots where you'd like to draft some talent would be a pass rusher and WLB. Jarvis Jones from UGA is a Von Miller clone and would pretty much take care of both.

I agree with free agent idea to bring in a couple of a guards that are at least proven. Indy, completely rebuilt their o-line by trading for a right tackle, and signing a free agent center and two agent guards during the off season.

Do the Browns play the 3-4 Defense? Jarvis is the best defensive player in college football but he would have a learning curve if he went back to a 4-3 defense.
