Cleveland Browns (2012 season)

whether he can actually play in the west coast offense is one thing but learning it shouldnt be a problem
From the highlights I've seen, and games of his I watched, I don't think it would be a big problem. Smart, strong accurate arm, ability to move around in the pocket...all of that should serve him well. Might take a little time to learn how to operate under center, but I don't see that as a huge deal for him.

ya i dont think it will be a problem either...bottom line this draft will make or break the Shumur, Heckert and Holmgren era IMO...we are loaded with draft picks and we are in prime position to possibly get a franchise QB, or at least a shitload of talent with 4 picks in the first 68 picks...if holmgren and heckert let RGIII go and he becomes the next steve young, they will never live that down...if they draft him and give up the motherload and he is average at best, they will never live that down...so in either of those scenarios they are fucked...they have to hope if they get RGIII they get him for a fair deal and are still able to add peices in the draft and FA, or if they pass on him they need to land a stud WR, great OL and a backup QB for colt in the mid rounds...im hoping for either of the latter

Since when it is a requirement to have a strong arm in the WCO?
I said "strong/accurate"...accuracy is pretty important...and we see how things have gone with Colt's noodle arm. Arm strength can definitely help...sure as hell doesn't hurt.

I'm all aboard the RG3 bandwagon...at the right price. I certainly don't want them to sell the farm to move up for him, and I don't think they will. I also think come draft day, they won't have to. I think he's a special talent, and I think he may very well be the franchise QB they've lacked. Plus, with Colt, they don't necessarily have to throw him right into the fire in 2012.

My concern with going another direction is that, aside from Barkley, I don't think there's any real franchise QBs next year. That obviously could change, nobody was talking about Griffen in that context last year this time. But, I don't think they'll be bad enough to win the Barkley sweepstakes next year. Then you still don't have a QB unless Colt somehow grows significantly as an NFL QB.

you need a strong arm when you throw horizontal routes from the opposite hash. there is no single offense in the nfl except running solely the wildcat where arm strength isn't necessary.
Yeah, it also helps you zip passes into tight spots...something I saw Griffen do a lot last season. A canon isn't necessarily required, Joe Montana didn't have a canon, but you have to be able to put something on your passes. Colt's passes last year often looked horrible because he just had nothing on them. Arm strength was a knock on Colt coming into the NFL and we saw why last year.

a better question is when has arm strength never been a requirement for a QB
The WCO is supposed to be a type of offense that can at least work without a cannon-armed QB, but I don't think a strong arm can be seen as anything but a plus for any offense.

I heard the Browns were looking to trade up to take this young prospect. Giving away four picks over the next two years.

Kid takes instruction well, maintains good balance, has a good motor and natural leg bend. Quickness and hand/eye coordination will remain a challenge but desire and intangibles are off the charts.

Certainly a better fit than Ben Gay or Brady Quinn.

That wouldn't be as bad as trading Paul Warfield to get Mike Phipps.
