Cleveland Browns (2012 season)

gocong was going to be in a dog fight to keep his starting spot as it was. gocong was solid for a handful of short yardage and goalline possessions this year. otherwise, he was just a guy. they will likely pick up someone from the scrap heap to have another body.
The problem with Gocong going down is that Fujita, as you know, is suspended for the first 3 games so the rookie from Nevada (Johnson) is probably going to have to step up and play one of OLB positions. Either that or the Browns are going to have to search the waiver wire after a few weeks they pick up a veteran.

I will say this the backup job will be interesting...either McCoy and possible discord or Wallace and too much money. I am betting they keep McCoy and cut Wallace at the start of the year.

I went to camp last Wednesday, and, regardless of draft position, naming Weeden the starter right now was the right decision, IMO. He looked significantly better than McCoy in every aspect of the game (velocity, accuracy, decision making, etc.).

It also looks like the plan is to keep McCoy around as the backup. Wallace got 1 (one) snap when the offense faced the defense. Thaddeus Lewis got 4 or 5 snaps, and the rest were split between McCoy and Weeden.

That would have been my plan all along - instead of getting a 29 year old rookie QB, strengthen the right side of the OL with that pick and then get this guy next draft.

Unfortunately, they will probably go 1-15 this year and end up drafting whoever the SEC d-lineman flavor of the year is in 2013...

According to the Beaver County Times, Steelers rookie RG David DeCastro "hasn?t exactly been a camp sensation."
DeCastro has yet to unseat incumbent Ramon Foster, and admitted to quarterback Ben Roethlisberger he's struggling with the physical aspect of the NFL game. The Steelers didn't take the rare step of using a first-round pick on a guard to have him sit on the sideline, but it sounds like DeCastro is going to need every preseason rep he can get in preparation for Week 1.

maybe the love affair over the best guard in a decade is a bit premature?

Well, I will say this... regardless of what you think about the guys the browns took on the line (either side of the ball really) they weren't small dudes.

In the end, I think DeCastro is going to be fine. I also think we'll be fine having not drafted him. Keep in mind the "physical aspects" that he's adjusting to is the Steelers front 7, which is a whole different sport than the Pac-10.

Good. If this continues, it couldn't happen to a more deserving franchise.

I don't even mind much if he sits majority of the preseason. I just want him healthy. He's a weapon, there is no question. Double edged sword to taking any RB in the 1st round though. Now I'm just praying we don't experience a giant set back with his knee any further.

I won't lie. I was excitd as all hell when we took him. I also realize here are tons of "safer" options - its the gamble the FO took. We'll see how this pans out...
