Cleveland Browns (2012 season)

Browns take Gordon in the second round... not happy with the 2nd round pick , but i will take the help at WR.

It all depends how he plays. If he is the best WR on the Browns roster in 2 years it will be a good move. This is definitely going to muddy the waters for the Browns WR corp this year. They only keep 5 right?

Little
MM
Cribbs
Benjamin
Gordon

2 rookies and Little is still raw. Might need to move Cribbs to 3rd QB and keep Norwood.

Not really surprising. Little was the same thing, guy who hadn't played in a year for various reasons. At this point, i dont believe the management structure will be around next year for the draft so they are just kinda saying.. "fuck it who cares"

the browns front office isn't going anywhere.

Actually don't mind this pick.....it was THE position of need for us, Little and Gordon are the starting wideouts, Massaquoi always was best fit as a #3 and having Benjamin in the slot to spread the field, it's at least an upgrade and allows Cribbs to focus on ST's, his bread and butter.

We would have needed a WR or two badly next draft anyways - is Gordon that 2nd round quality? Debatable, but at least pretty dang close to it. He's got the size, speed, production as a soph and the only issues are off field ones that he seems to have genuinely overcame. Gives Weeden more tools right away which he badly needed. I'm not sure there would have been a WR clearly better than Gordon in the 2nd round next year for us to take, so we get that talent now and get that impact instantly, not shabby imo.

Physically gifted. Raw. With a rookie QB. Only bright side is
That we have two rooks who can grow together now. If the oline
Can keep weeden upright.... Never know what can happen. Depth
Everywhere is crucial now. We still need a #2 CB.. FS.. WLB and
Perhaps another DE. Thats just defense too. Lets hope this
Pans out. If not this is a 2nd round pick that could have been used
To draft Stoneburner.

I see this as a smart move... use the '34' pick to help you get around 8-8.. which would mean this could end being the 50th pick next year...

So we get a kid many evaluators saw as same as or better than Kendall Wright... I like it

this is to the point where you hope that some later picks blossom and you actually use free agency to acquire legit starters. if any of patterson, skrine, or hagg proves to be an actual starter, or JMJ proves he can handle a linebacker spot, then it frees up a lot of flexibility.

I hope we spread it out ala New Orleans and the Patriots. We have young WR talent... Weeden is a spread guy, I think it will make richardson all the more effective. Thoughts?

Drew Brees and Tom Brady are so far ahead of McCoy and Weeden COMBINED on the talent scale it's not even a real comparison.

And no, they aren't running that system, they are running the WCO.

Your comparing proven NFL talent and a top 5 QB to Cleveland.
That is all.

Exactly. MAYBE, if they hadn't blown a 1st this year on a QB they could have gotten Matt Barkley next year with the 1st pick since they ARE going to have the first pick next year.

I understand, but their offenses are clearly different and more pass oriented than cleveland was last year. The young WR's make huge impacts every year in the NFL. I just wonder if they change their offense philosophy not if they put up numbers like those teams. QBs and Passing rule the NFL obviously, but the browns don't play that way... Is it Colt/Wallace or the offense. I'm not sure.

Their receivers dropped the most passes in the league.

they couldn't protect the QB if their lives depended upon it.

They still don't have a real downfield threat that teams will respect.

The WCO they run doesn't go past 20 years beyond the LOS.

Screw people who complain about this pick. People (myself included) bitched for years about how they don't take changes and need to. Now they do and those people still bitch. Good for the FO for making things happen.
