Cleveland Browns (2011 season)

I agree with Yoyo...however when it comes to Blackmon I get cold feet. When you talk abou Fitz, and Andre and Calvin Johnson you are not only talking about extremely talented receivers but quality people. Is Blackmon going to be another Braylon? We just can't afford to miss on this pick.

Are there concerns with Blackmon's character? He seems like a pretty good dude based on what I've seen.
Seriously, Dez Bryant gets brought up but we're talking about a guy that lied to the NCAA, got kicked out of a mall, is accused of owing $600k to a jeweler, another $50k on bank loans, and was just involved in fight in South Beach (with Lil Wayne's crew? possibly over debts?).

Kid is a scrub, bum, and overall idiot.

Blackmon got a DUI as a minor (under the legal limit, but still a minor=DUI), admitted his mistake and remorse in front of the press immediately and has moved above and beyond that immature mistake.

Only seen good work ethic reviews.

And:

I'm baffled at this talking down.

(Not that being a good guy=being worthy of #4 pick, but I'll at least try to defend this guys character against that freakin' Dez Bryant until proven otherwise)

I still haven't figured out where this notion of Blackmon = Fitzgerald, Megatron, Andre Johnson came from....all I said was he is the best WR in the draft since those three came through.

I'd rather not see another good guy like RGIII be doomed to failure with the Browns.

the notion is just as your saying...Fitz, megatron and andre johnson were elite, possible #1 picks at WR...i firmly believe blackmon does not even fit in that conversation

ummmm you need some help reading what I said.

All of those guys were the best WRs in their particular draft. THAT was the comparison because unless you really think highly of Michael Floyd for some odd reason, no one is close to Blackmon and more importantly, he is the best WR to come through the draft since those 3.

That doesn't put him on the same level in any sense or context unless you feel like it's time to continue to create one.

Based on...? It's not as if Fitz or Megatron played any better compitition in the ACC or the Big East, and it just so happens that Blackmon's numbers in college are better than both of their numbers. Fitz and Megatron had their fair share of naysayers, and it's easy looking back and saying they were clearly elite receivers, but at the time there were people saying about them the same things you're saying about Blackmon. If your argument isn't numbers or competition, then maybe it's intuition or the eye test? In which case I would say, did you see the kid's sport science institute clip? He's 6'1" and still has a vert good enough to have the vertical reach of plaxico burress? Yep, don't think there are many defensive backs that are tall enough or have the vert to guard against him on a jump ball.

At the end of the day he belongs in the same conversation as Fitz and Johnson did coming out of college, and whether or not he lives up to that status he's earned will be up to him. Fitz was a number 3 overall pick and Johnson was a number 2, and honestly Blackmon could go either one of those spots, and that's before you account for the fact there's this supposed once in a generation QB in Andrew Luck getting drafted that pushes Blackmon back a spot or two.

*Do not take this out of context in saying that Blackmon is a lock to be as good as Fitz (one of the best/hardest working receivers to ever step on a field) or Megatron who is a freak. Understand I'm talking belonging in the conversation based on their body of work and athletic ability up to this point in their careers*

**Edit: Forgot to add in Andre Johnson to the convo. Again very similar numbers and competition in the ACC, and his draft spot, 3rd overall, is once again fairly comparable. **

this is what I AM getting at...so please re-read what i am posting...i even said earlier that i thought julio and AJ green were better WR prospects, IMO of course, then Blackmon...im arguing your point of blackmon being the best WR prospect since the 3 mentioned earlier...thats all...carry on

For any of you any discussing height issues. Any new arguments that actually hold some credibility?

For the record, based on a slightly different opinion, I would say Julio Jones has no business being discussed with Blackmon, not the other way around. Jones is a number 2 receiver to Roddy White at this point in his career, good luck finding someone in all but three/four NFL teams that Blackmon would be a number 2 guy to.

Does anyone have any favorites for rounds 3-7, maybe a sleeper pick you'd like to see the Browns pick up? I honestly think LaMichael James if you can manage to get him in the 3rd or later depending on his combine would give you a great check down and skat back to play with in the WCO. Obviously the need at RB is heavily dependent on how the Hillis situation plays out, but I'd love to see a guy like James come in and contribute as a Lesean McCoy type of player. Obviously small backs like McCoy, Bush, Sproles have a place in the league and that's personally one of my favored pick-ups, although the need to fill more needed spots certainly makes the pick up of him unlikely. Any other names anyone cares to throw out?

numbers is a strawman argument. otherwise, every wr from hawaii and texas tech would be taken in the 1st round. justin blackmon has no business being mentioned with andre johnson, megatron, fitz, aj green, or julio jones. he's nowhere near as physically gifted as those guys. then, there's the whole thing about him having no idea how to run an nfl route tree, which is where the dez bryant comparison falls into place.

justin blackmon is more michale crabtree than any other wr's mentioned here.
