Joe Haden ran 4.58 and 4.57 in the 40 reportedly. Wonder how that effects his draft stock. A lot of folks have him pegged to the Browns...

It may slide him down in the first round a tad. Reminds me of Malcom Jenkins last year. He still went 13th I believe. The 40 time certainly helped CJ Spiller. Eric Berry also timed very well. As a Browns fan I would be happy with any of these guys.

Berry won't be there. I have to admit, I'm intriged by Spiller. His style reminds me a lot of Chris Johnson.

Will Haden be running the 40 at the UF pro day as well? I find it very hard to believe he ran that close to a 4.6 - I'll admit he plays a lot faster on the field than that 40 time might indicate. Fact remains, that's a huge hit in his draft stock.

Toby Gerhart ran a faster 40 than Haden, didn't he?

Gerhart would be a big hit in CLE with his running style if people could get past thinking of him as another Tommy Vardell.
That's the problem and I admit it gives me pause too. Their numbers were eerily similar in college and they both feasted on weaker Pac-10 defenses. I think he could turn out to be a solid short yardage option as a pro, but personally, if the Browns look to go RB, I'd prefer Spiller because of his HR ability and elusiveness.

I'd assume so, and I'd also assume the time will be much better as team pro days are notoriously player friendly...

Everyone seems to forget about James Davis. He looked good before he got hurt. I don't think they need to be blowing a first rounder on Spiller. Too many other needs.

It''s not sexy but there are several good tackles available (Davis,Bulaga,etc)...drafting a good RT could put this OL in great shape for years.

Davis looked good in preseason against the Lions. I don't put much stock in that. I'd prefer to address other needs too, but, if they were to pick Spiller, I don't think I'd be too upset. The kid is just electric and we really don't have a premier back. If we're going to a WC offense, his receiving ability would be an asset too.

As for the OL, I like Bulaga, but not too sure he (or a RT for that matter) is worth this high a pick. Davis has "bust" written all over him. He showed up to the combine out of shape and his drive has been questioned.

With so many picks this year, there's a lot more "wiggle room" with that top pick. Sure you want to address those biggest needs, but with a fairly deep draft, if you feel you can plug some of them later on taking a guy like Spiller wouldn't be all that bad IMO.

I said this during the season and I'll say it again: Chris Johnson just made CJ Spiller a lot of money. I think he'll end up being the first RB taken, and I don't think the Browns should be using the #7 pick on him. Now, if they package some of their extra picks or trade down again or something, that might be a different story.

I've also done more reading on Vardell (I was a youngster when he was drafted) and his similarities to Gerhart are creepy. Even their measurables are practically the same - Vardell was actually .04 faster in the 40 than Gerhart. I honestly don't know much about Vardell's running style in college, but having seen Gerhart, I just get the feeling that he can be a poor man's Beanie Wells. Most importantly while we're comparing and contrasting, nobody would be talking about using a top-10 pick in Gerhart like was used to take Vardell. The chatter I'm seeing is that Gerhart's combine performance MAY have moved him into a 2nd round position. Despite the creepy similarities, I think he might be worth a look on Day 2 this year.

Just thinking about this today.

With Haden's 40 time, what are the possibilites that the Browns now in fact trade down?

Jacksonville is @ 10

Miami @ 12

Seattle and NYG @ 14, 15 respectively.

I"m not sure which teams would show the top interest, but I"m sure we could secure an extra pick with the trade down.

I'm curious because if we do so, I think the likelyhood of taking Spiller increases. We then take Earl Thomas with our pick @ 41 ( if he's available)

I"m trying to remember that CB's name from Bama' - can somebody help me with this?

One more thing to, I don't think our need at OLB last year just dissapeared overnight. So what I'm trying to say is, if Thaddeus is available in the later part of the 2nd round - we should take him
