The only thing I can say positive about Checkdown Jesus II right now is that if we get him in the second round, he's just that...a second round pick. Not a high first round pick. Not a first rounder at all. Thus, the Browns won't have to mortgage the future to pay him and there will be zero pressure to just hand him the job because he is "being paid all this money". He'd have to earn his job, which I don't think he can do. That said, please Lord let them take McCoy if they want a QB.

He'll still want top 10 pick money and hold out for the whole season waiting for it. Douchebag should have stayed in school another year. If he had a good year under Kelly it might have earned a top 10 pick next year.

Then let his bitch ass sit and wait for top 10 money...he doesn't exactly have the leverage Crabtree had last year, in terms of talent, need, or draft status. If he wants top 10 money, I'm sure he could be a top level pick in the CFL or AFL.

Cleveland Browns could be looking at these players in second round of NFL Draft 2010 | cleveland.com

The natural assumption is the Browns want to beat the pack to take one of the two hyped quarterbacks who slipped out of the first round, Jimmy Clausen of Notre Dame and Colt McCoy of Texas. But one source told us that the Browns are not planning to take a quarterback sooner than the fifth round. They want to take players in the first three rounds that are legitimate candidates to start as rookies, or at least to contribute.

The Browns have not called the Rams about trading up to the first pick in today's second round despite a report on ESPN that they have, a league source said.

Interesting. Could be a smokescreen too. If you can make people think you're not taking a QB, you can get teams like Buffalo to resist trading up ahead of you to take a guy you want.

I still think the ideal pick is McCoy, and that it would be great if they didn't have to trade up to get him. I wouldn't be disappointed if they passed on him and took a player at a different position though, provided it's not somebody like Taylor Mays.

Actually just a lot of interesting players on the board....

Couple Safteties.... not including Taylor Mays...

Obviously Kindle.

Not that the Browns should take him.. but... Mt. Cody is still there... and some nice OL's.

Dunno about golden Tate... but... yeah... I mean, this is a pretty deep draft.

I also like the specificity of "the Browns not calling the Rams to trade up"

Almost wonder if there's a deal where either someone else wants to trade up and the Rams need the Browns pick to do it...

Or, the Browns are looking at a player and someone wants the Rams pick for that player.

I take this as the Browns are content to stay with their pick. They might want McCoy (hopefully not the other one), but only if they don't have to give up anything to get him. If someone else takes him there are plenty of other good players to take that would likely produce sooner.
IIRC they have 5 picks in the first 3 round so I think they need at least 4 starters out of that group. Assuming they move one of the CB's to safety I don't see another DB right now unless they want 5 decent DB's. LB or DE are a priority. A RT also wouldn't be a bad way to go. I'd love to see them get Coleman when his time comes.

so, aside from the above, which encompasses 95% of your post, I agree with you.

So, I'm assuming the nickel back part you agree with then?

That said; Heckert in the latest presser said that there was a "story" behind Joe's slow 40. He never said he was directly told about it other than by scouts who we're told by Haden's dad/trainer AFTER the run. Saying it was a sprain in his back. I'm not saying this isn't true, I feel it is and that's he's much faster. Becauase there are a ton of people that can run a 4.63 and I don't see them in the NFL.

Then again I'm pretty sure TH mentioned they had sessions with him where he ran much better.

Believe me, I'm not the one to put that much stock in workouts. I like football players first. I like Haden's toughness, he's willing to tackle which McDonald and Wright just simply won't do. He's always looking at his man and the QB/football and plays the ball well in the air. I'm very high on him. I just want his footwork, fluid hips and closing speed to confirm he's worth top 10 money. If the front office is convinced, then I guess that really should be enough for me.

I think I'm warming on the pick myself. I was just really, really looking forward to getting Berry.

We have 2nd - 4th tonight and I'm pretty pumped.

Coleman or Thaddeus, Thaddeus AND Coleman. I'd prefer the latter.

I don't know if this has been discussed in other threads, but to those of you in here who were asking about Kindle, it sounds like his knee is causing some major concern.

Sergio Kindle plummets due to medical concerns | National Football Post

University of Texas outside linebacker Sergio Kindle plummeted out of the first round reportedly due to concerns about his long-term health.

According to Rivals.com, Kindle might need microfracture surgery on his knee.

"There are a handful of teams who have graded Kindle as a "serious" medical risk because of his knee, which one team said looks like it could require Kindle to have microfracture surgery," per the report. "According to some teams, Kindle's medical exams showed a series of trauma on the knee that could limit his career. If he slides past the Patriots at No. 22, he could slide out of the first round, and there might be more than hot air behind the murmurs about Kindle's knee."

And this is a great idea and plan. My problem is taking a guy with the #7 pick in the draft, make him the highest paid CB in the NFL (without playing a down) and then having him "play nickle now and maybe in a year or two start". Too, too, too damn many holes on the team to take this approach, IMHO.

But we are talking about the Browns here.

What were they supposed to do? They addresses the secondary, which, IMO, was the biggest need (other than QB, and I heard on the Fan that they tried to trade up to get Bradford). It was either Berry or Haden at 7. Would've been cool if they could've traded down, but apparently they couldn't.

By drafting either Berry or Haden, they're getting a CB and a safety. If they draft Berry, Sheldon Brown stays at CB. Now that they drafted Haden, Brown likely moves to S at some point.

They did all they could. They did a good job with it. It's not their fault that the CBA is awful, don't blame the Browns for that. Whomever they drafted there was going to make a shit ton of money. What would you have rather seen them do?

Unless Holmgren saw something I didn't, I'm confident Ward would have been available in the 3rd round. They just said it, he's not the best open field tackler.

edit: big reach on Ward aside, I guess that means no McCoy? =(
