And this is a great idea and plan. My problem is taking a guy with the #7 pick in the draft, make him the highest paid CB in the NFL (without playing a down) and then having him "play nickle now and maybe in a year or two start". Too, too, too damn many holes on the team to take this approach, IMHO.

But we are talking about the Browns here.

That sounds like more of a CBA problem than a Browns problem. Everybody was screaming for Eric Berry, but whether he got picked by KC or CLE he was also going to get paid Pro Bowl money without playing a down. Granted, Berry would've been a starter from Day 1, but there's a chance Haden could be too if they decide to slide Brown over to safety.

Although with Clausen falling this far, I'm concerned that many teams have McCoy rated higher. I think the Browns should move up if they want McCoy.

I'd feel a whole lot better if they'd just move up tonight & grab McCoy. Seems like teams are seeing something they don't like with Jimmah--gives me a sinking feeling that if the Browns wait their turn, they're gonna hear Colt's name called from the podium before they ever get a chance.

The one interesting aspect of Round 1 being Thursday and then Round 2 being the next day. St. Louis has to be fielding calls left and right with people wanting to trade up to get either Claussen or McCoy.

The Browns have the ammo to move up to get who they want. The question is how badly do they want one of these guys or if they like both of these QBs the same and are willing to wait.

And maybe the assumption that the Browns want a QB in the second round will turn out to be like the assumption that the Browns were done considering Haden at #7 because of his combine workouts.

My thought is that Holmgren/Heckart are not in the market for a QB this year and will not trade picks to get one. If McCoy is there at #38, then maybe, maybe, they will take him. They will not move up, IMHO.

The combine is BS. Haden is a FOOTBALL PLAYER. He has potential to be a lot better too. I don't want a QB in the second round anymore. I would be okay with McCoy I guess. Too many holes. We should wait until next year. I want Sergio Kindle or maybe a RT like Saffold, or Charles Brown could play RT. Or a guy like Golden Tate. Lots of options for the Browns. I think we'll see a lot of movement from the team the rest of this draft but i think we will stay at 38. Nate Allen would be a good pick too.

I want Kindle though.

Exactly... we will find out how badly they want a QB. If they trade up, they wanted one. If they wait til their pick, they were indifferent. If they don't pick one at all, then they had no intention at all to pick one.

As much as I like McCoy, part of me does not like giving up picks to move up.

But, I also trust Mike Homlgren's judgment here. If there's one thing he knows it's quarterbacks. If he likes a guy enough to make certain to go and get him rather than sitting back and waiting, I'm OK with that.

I couldn't agree more. I think if you get a future starting QB, especially if he becomes a quite effective one, then it's worth trading up and giving a few late round picks to get him now. I am not really in the camp that's willing to wait til next year to draft a QB. Free agency QB's are rare and expensive and I don't want to wait another year, to get a rookie in the system just to wait another year for him to get the system under his belt.

I say get McCoy now. Let him learn this year while we piece the team together a bit, and begin to push for wildcard slots next year. Tired of waiting for things to change.

The only thing I can say positive about Checkdown Jesus II right now is that if we get him in the second round, he's just that...a second round pick. Not a high first round pick. Not a first rounder at all. Thus, the Browns won't have to mortgage the future to pay him and there will be zero pressure to just hand him the job because he is "being paid all this money". He'd have to earn his job, which I don't think he can do. That said, please Lord let them take McCoy if they want a QB.
