Hopefully Brad Childress likes Jimmah more than Holmgren.

Man, if McCoy gets taken before Jimmah....watch for the fall-out on Clausen.

If K.C. passes on Jimmah in the seond round what does that say?? Ouch. I think McCoy has a legit shot at being there in the second. If he is there, I think the Browns have to pull the trigger on him. Haden and McCoy would have tobe considered a successful first 2 rounds....2 guaranteed starters in the next 2-3 years at IMPACT positions.

OK, let's talk second round.

I still want McCoy. Do people think he'll still be there? It seems reasonable to expect that most of the other teams near the top of the second round will not be looking for a QB there. I think Minnesota might take a QB, and Buffalo could package some picks to move up ahead of Cleveland.

I hope the Vikings aren't thinking of taking McCoy.

My money is on the Vikes taking the Golden Emu. I would have bet Pete Rose $50 that the Vikes would take him with their 1st round pick. Trading it to Detroit and getting Detroit's 2nd round pick would have me asking Pete if he wanted to double up on that bet.

Hypothetically, if KC passes on the the Peacock in the second round, how do you take him?? Is that not a ringing endoresment on lack of faith in him at the NFL from his former coach?? I don't know...he's more and more looking like a GM and Entertainemnt industry creation. You hope another GM buys in and spends a high pick, but no one was dumb enough. Thankfully Cleveland didn't buy in...

On top of mediocre workouts including the shuttle etc etc.

Philly traded up to what? 13th? We could have traded down to San Fran, grabbed Earl Thomas, maybe an additional 2nd rounder and still have gotten a very solid corner in the 2nd round. So I hope we bundle a pick or two, grab McCoy in the 2nd and Nate Allen because we need safety help.

That said, i'm with JC - I think we just made Haden the highest paid nickel back in the league. Good news is this gets McDonald out of the rotation.

this is just dumb. first off, in his draft presser, heckert said that haden informed scouts about his injured back before the combine. secondly, he was substantially better on a wet track at UF's pro day. Third, SF traded to 11, not 8, to get Anthony Davis. Why would they go all the way up to #7 for him? They wouldn't. Also, it's possible that Sheldon Brown could be the new starting safety.

so, aside from the above, which encompasses 95% of your post, I agree with you.

McCoy, McCoy, McCoy. That said, looking at how the first round went, I am SOOOO thankful for Holmgren, because Checkdown Jesus II at #7 when no one else would have taken him in the first round had 1999-2009 Browns written all over it.

Oh, and Jacksonville... :slappy: :slappy: :slappy: I didn't know Al Davis owned a second team.

Good thing about McCoy to the Browns is that Clausen is still there.

Although with Clausen falling this far, I'm concerned that many teams have McCoy rated higher. I think the Browns should move up if they want McCoy.

I totally agree. It wouldn't take the house to move up a small amount. If there is any doubt about where Colt will be once the 2nd round starts rolling..trade up and get this guy.

I think some people here that are screaming "TRADE DOWN TRADE DOWN" with that #7 pick forget that that option isn't always available. I'm not sure there was a player on the board at #7 that teams were so in love with or in need of that they were willing to give anything up to move up a few spots. Usually you're able to trade down when their is a player on the board that seems to be surprisingly still available, and at 7 I don't think their was a player left that everyone expected to be gone by then.

for the lions to move up 4 spots it took a 4th and something else. that's pretty steep. since cleveland has no 4th, it would probably take the late 3rd to move up to the top of the 2nd at this point.

their best bet is to sit tight and wait until one of mccoy and clausen come off the board, then reassess. there are no teams that actually want a qb between the rams and cleveland, so there is no need to jump the gun.

I like the Haden pick, considering that Berry was off the board. I like McCoy, but don't want to see the Browns move up to get him. If he's there at 39, then go for it. If he's gone, then Bruce Campbell should be considered to help out the right side of the O-line.

I agree, I liked Haden til the combine. But sometimes you have to believe all of the film of him playing versus running in shorts with a tweaked back. I assumed with Brown that Haden wasn't a pressing need. But really... compared to what else was there, I don't mind stocking up on a premium position. You can slowly work in Haden as the nickle back, and if he shows something then you can move Brown to safety.

Also agree about the 2nd round. While I like McCoy, Claussen being there will help Colt fall, I hope. But if Colt gets picked before us and Claussen is still there??? I know I said I didn't like Claussen, but he is a steal if he is there at 39.

But there is some good talent still on the board (What happened to Kindle?)

Ans Browns fans used to think Brandon McDonald was a legit #2 CB in the league

About as awesome as when Browns fans though Charlie Frye could be a great QB and Jerome Harrison will now be a pro-bowl RB.

Or the time they thought Ben Gay was going to change the way that NFL scouts looked at the position of Running Back.

I would not be surpirsed to see Haden play Nickel thi syear and move into the corner position in a year or two and slide Wright to the #2.
And this is a great idea and plan. My problem is taking a guy with the #7 pick in the draft, make him the highest paid CB in the NFL (without playing a down) and then having him "play nickle now and maybe in a year or two start". Too, too, too damn many holes on the team to take this approach, IMHO.

But we are talking about the Browns here.

With the 7th pick out of the way what kind of grade would you guys give the Browns for a)player @ pick 7? b)position of need? I'd give the Haden pick a B/B+ If you're looking at the player they got for the position they were at Haden is a solid B. If he doesn't turn out to be a shutdown corner in the NFL he'll be unfairly labeled as a bust however if he turns in a solid 6-7 years of production he's definitely worth it. BTW does JH return kicks/punts? The B+ is for getting a position of need. Their secondary definitely got better.(but any warm body would have been an improvement with this groups production last season) An athletic corner that's not afraid to tackle makes me think this regime gets it.

The Browns have four picks tonight. Hopefully they can grade out B/B+ overall for these four, but I'm not holding my breath.
