Cleveland Browns (2010 season)

Joe (Cleveland)
If Browns are on the clock and Peterson, Quinn, and Dareus are available who would they grab?
Mel Kiper
The highest rated player of that group would be Peterson, but CB is not a big need. The guy I might look at there, who wasn't mentioned, is JJ Watt. Peterson is my highest rated player out of those, then Quinn and Dareus. I gave them Watt in my latest first round projection.

So, Diaper is given a scenario with three available players, and he chooses a fourth that was not mentioned in the scenario and is (by his admission) not as good as the others? It must be difficult for him to read, trying to look through a cloud of hairspray and Todd McShay hate all the time.

BTW, since Diaper wouldn't answer the question I will: Peterson.

hahaha...i dont hate on Kiper as much as i hate on McGay...Kiper is just trying to project the impossible which is what NFL GM's are going to do on draft day...in the scenario given i like going with Dareus...we may have to go DT,DE,LB,LB in the draft considering the lack of talent and depth we have on defense...FWIW James Walker also said yesterday he doesnt see the Browns taking a CB in the first round since we went Haden then Ward in the draft last year...he thinks we will go DT/WR in the first round

and i found kipers entire mock draft here

Cleveland Browns

Record: 5-11

* J.J. Watt, DE, Wisconsin
The Browns need to upgrade along the defensive line, and outside of the top two guys in this mock draft, you won’t find a more consistently disruptive and versatile player along the defensive line than Watt, who can come in and provide immediate help as either a 3-4 or 4-3 defensive end as the Browns adjust. He’s a guy who can thrive regardless of the system. If Green still was sitting here, he would be a tantalizing option, but this might be a slight reach for Julio Jones

i am happy we did this...i love phil money

Browns applied to the franchise tag to K Phil Dawson.

Dawson has been trying to land a long-term deal for three years now, and the Browns have thwarted his efforts at every turn. He's set to earn roughly $3.25 million under the tag, which is at least a raise of more than $2 million from his 2010 salary. One of the NFL's most reliable kickers, Dawson has drilled 85 percent of his field goal attempts over the past four seasons.

holmgren talks about taking best player available in the draft, on how browns will definitely draft a QB in the upcoming draft, and how colt mccoy is still the guy in cleveland...i still say we take AJ Green is he is around...grossi has us taking Nick Fairley in his latest mock draft

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Browns arrived at the NFL Scouting Combine with obvious needs on defense. That matches up well with the strength of the 2011 draft, which is top-heavy with blue-chip defensive linemen.
But offense never escapes the mind of President Mike Holmgren. Upon landing here on Wednesday, Holmgren's eyebrows twitched just enough to keep everyone guessing about the direction the Browns will take with their first pick, No. 6 overall.
"I'm also looking for a home-run hitter," Holmgren said, pointedly.
That comment alone will intensify the debate on which glaring need the Browns should satisfy first -- defensive line or wide receiver.
Four defensive linemen are considered worthy of the No. 6 pick. Two are tackles and two are ends. The top-rated linebacker, Von Miller of Texas A&M, and the top-rated cornerback, Patrick Peterson of Louisiana State, could be justified there, too.
But there's really only one home-run hitter on offense worthy of a top-10 pick, a guy who can score a touchdown from any place on the field. That's Georgia receiver A.J. Green. Without mentioning him by name, Holmgren essentially conceded that Green is a strong candidate for the team's No. 1 pick.

On North Carolina end Robert Quinn, who sat out last season after accepting money from agents, Heckert said that wouldn't be a dealbreaker for him. He said he'd investigate and make a determination on Quinn's character.
But he praised his pass-rush ability and said sitting out a year could mean one less season of wear and tear. He said Quinn could go No. 1 or slip down the board.
As for Auburn defensive tackle Nick Fairly, Heckert said his reputation as a dirty player is unwarranted. "It's not after the whistle,'' Heckert said. "It's more toughness than being a dirty player.''
He said Alabama defensive tackle Marcell Dareus is a "high-motor guy, relentless, makes plays all over.''
He also praised Purdue end Ryan Kerrigan, calling him a "supreme playmaker'' and thinks Ohio State end Cam Heyward "can be a defensive tackle for us, I really do.''

Big Cam checked in at 295. With his motor, strength and initial burst I would love to have him at DT.
Like I said, give us a run stuffer in Rubin and Cam who can push the pocket and pressure the QB while playing against the run.

If AJ Green isn't available and the Brownies trade down, I would have zero issue with them taking Heyward in the 15-20 range.

? Never ones to miss the too-obvious angles, we reporters peppered Oregon State inside linebacker Casey Matthews with questions about his famous brother, Clay, and his NFL-experienced football family. It's what we do.
Matthews was asked how his game differs from Clay's, whose pass-rushing skills were on full display this season at outside linebacker in Green Bay.
"Just my instincts,'' Casey said. "He's more of an explosive athlete. We're different positions. I think my position requires a little more of the instinctual side and getting to the ball quicker. I feel that's a part of my game that Clay doesn't necessarily [do] as well. But he obviously has a pretty good game.''
Matthews is only 6-1, 232, and probably projects as a mid-round pick. But how can you go wrong rolling the dice on the Matthews family bloodline?
"A lot of [teams in the NFL] will come up to me and say, 'We missed on your brother, maybe we'll get you,'' Casey said.

I'd love to see the Browns snag him in the middle rounds. Like the article says, how can you go wrong rolling the dice on somebody with that family bloodline...
