Below is a possible list of potential candidates for the Browns job in the order which I would take them up to John Fox. After his name it is a crapshoot as far as I am concerned. I would take anyone before him in the order listed but after him I don't think it would matter.

mike holmgren
jon gruden
pat shurmur
bill cowher
mike mularkey
brad childress
john fox

crapshoot list
mike mccoy
josh mcdaniels
chip kelly
jim harbaugh
jim mora
karl dorrell
marty mornhinweg
perry fewell

so, mularkey cancels his denver interview and keeps his cleveland interview. interesting development. he's a much better candidate than morningwood IMO.

maybe he has beef with elway and i should add that i agree with you that i like him better then morningweig...bud shaw wrote a article about why morningweig is not a good canidate for the browns...a main sticking point was the OT fiasco when he won the coin toss and elected to defend

i just find the situation to be a bit odd. mularkey admits to wanting to be a head coach again. he has at this point, 2 teams interested. he basically takes himself out of the running for one of those two, citing "timing" issues, when his team is on a bye.

doubt it has anything to do with it but i just read this

The Broncos are no longer scheduled to interview Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey for their head coaching job.
Mularkey is scheduled to interview with the Browns Saturday, but he is reportedly most concerned with "keeping as much of his focus as possible" on Atlanta's playoff run. It couldn't have helped that Broncos VP of Football Operations John Elway repeatedly called Mularkey "Mark" on Wednesday.

He watched tape of Tebow, and realized that he's stuck with him. He then watched tape of McCoy, and said, meh, he's alright, but at least I'm not obligated to keep him if he sucks.

That's my one and only guess. :tongue2:

If he did withdraw for that reason, good for him. Interviewees are expected to not screw up details like that, and potential employers should be held to the same standard. Could have been a red flag to Mularkey that Denver is a bad situation and Elbag is in over his head as an executive.
