Don Banks of SI.com did a Do-Over Mock Draft, and three of the Browns' picks went in the top 17. I guess that draft class wasn't all that bad.

Don't understand why Haden dropped so far. Maybe it's because he just became a starter. Ward and McCoy certainly made quantum leaps. I can understand Ward blow while would you jump up and take McCoy higher in the first round when he still would be available later in the first:confused:

i think its crucial McCoy starts these next 3 games so we can get 3 more looks at him and help Heckerts decision on what to do in the upcoming draft

uhhh what?

You actually think they are going to even consider drafting a QB in the first 3 rounds next year? really?

I sure hope not but do not be surprised to see the Browns keep using picks on QB's because Holmgren likes to draft one a year.

yeah but I doubt it'll be in the first 3 rounds....this team has way to many holes to fill in just about every position.

What is more interesting is what will happen to DelHomme. Do they cut him or will they keep him as a senior mentor type guy?

And QB could be one of them. So, it'll be nice to have these last three games to take a look at Colt against all three division rivals and see if QB is actually a position that we need to address early.

This team has too many holes to fill to not take the best player available, regardless of position...and QB could be one of those positions.

No way I would. Give me a #1 WR and 3 impact defensive players and I'm set. If they can get a WR that pulls double coverage the rest of the offense will open up even more.

Jake won't be on the team for his current salary. I would rather have Wallace be the backup, but if Jake will come back for backup/3rd string money I would bring him back. I'd be fine with Wallace and Ratliff at the backup QB's as well.

ummm yah....hey i love colt mccoy just as much as everyone else...i think he is a great QB and the QB of our future...but im not the browns organization...i dont know what they are thinking but im sure its not that colt mccoy is 100% the future for the cleveland browns...he hasnt played one game yet in cleveland type weather and should get that here soon...what if these next 3 games he totally does a 180 and looks like charlie frye? not saying its going to happen, but if it does, wouldnt you want that to happen before you go into a draft with a top 15 pick? i just think as browns fans its easy to get caught up in something good like mccoy because we havent had anyone with any success at that position since bernie kosar...same with peyton hillis...he did fumble 3 times last week...what if he fumbles 3 more times every game from here on out? is he the answer at RB? all im saying is theres still 3 games left....remember when mangini saved his job after beating new orleans and then the patriots? look at his ass now....just saying dont be sold on everything just yet...this is the browns after all

I cannot see any scenario barring Colt going out and chucking 15 INTs these last three games that they invest a day one pick in a QB. What Colt has shown without a legitimate threat at WR has been fairly remarkable. I mean, all he's been working with in the passing game is a decent TE and a FB. He literally has no threats at WR. Get him somebody to stretch the field, then see what he does. Also, a competent OC. Colt's skillset is perfect for the WCO, get somebody in here to implement it correctly.

colt mccoy will have had 8 starts to be judged on.

of those 8 starts, 7 are against playoff teams, assuming jax holds off the colts. the other will be against the bengals this sunday, in his first game back from injury. that's about as rough a slate as you can ask a rookie to run. I would guess that would be a fairly good barometer of what he can do.

I would also posit that solidifying the OL and adding some talent to the wr position should take precedence over the QB spot, even if mccoy does his best DA impersonation the last 3 games.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Zorn brought in to OC next year regardless of what happens with Mangini. IIRC he was Holmgren's choice to take over in Seattle and he's just the QB coach in Baltimore so he could leave for an OC job. I just hope they can find a version of the WCO that allows Hillis to power run. On the bright side Hillis and Vickers both have good hands so they can still throw out of two back sets.

You're ranting about something when we're talking about the Browns using a 1st day pick on a QB.

Colt will have played in 8 games this year. In those 8 games he will have played:

Pittsburgh
New Orleans
New England
NYJ
Carolina
Jacksonville

He will also play the bungles, the Squeelers again and the Ratbirds.

That's enough to know where he is as a QB. In fact it already is enough when factoring in the crap (not counting Hillis) that he's had to work with.

there are other holes to fill. A good running game and a good defense coupled with adequate quarterbacking will get a team into the playoffs. This team right now has 2 out of 3 and that's without one legitimate downfield threat on offense and while the defense has been a surprise, they need some pass-rushers and depth.

I think McCoy has earned the right so far to play his way out of a job next season. I will be seriously disappointed if they fuck up and draft a QB (or Jake Locker at any point) in the 1st 3 rounds.

you said first 3 rounds and i replied that the organization COULD take a QB in the first 3 rounds...it just all depends...its easier to evaluate things when the season is over...like i said I DO really like colt mccoy and i think he is our QB for years to come...if you have seen any posts ive made in this thread then you know that i think the browns should use their first round pick on a WR or DT/DE...all im saying is who knows what tom heckert and holmgren truly think about our QB situation...i know that phil savage thought it was a good idea to evaluate derek anderson on 11 games instead of 16, and offer him a huge contract and we all know how that worked out...if colt goes out in the cinci game and does well like he think he should then there shouldnt be any reason the organization drafts a QB iin the first SIX rounds...this is the CLEVELAND BROWNS people...were are known for doing dumb shit in the draft...if after the season is all said and done and colt leaves any question marks in heckert or holmgrens head about if he is the future, and at pick 11 in the first round Cam newton is sitting there i think they possibly could question it...how about we just put this discussion to bed with 3 straight victories over the bungles, ravens and shitsburgh and then look forward to making the playoffs next season
