Cleveland Browns (2010 season)

reports that colt has a high ankle sprain...thats 3 QB's this year with the same injury...can we get some new cleats?

According to Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Colt McCoy may have suffered a high ankle sprain in the Browns' Week 11 loss.
The secretive Browns are unlikely to confirm the injury, but Grossi observed McCoy "definitely in pain" after the game. If McCoy has a high ankle sprain, it would be the third suffered by a Browns quarterback this season. It would also threaten his availability for Week 12 against the Panthers. Seneca Wallace (ankle) should be healthy enough to start by now if McCoy can't. Jake Delhomme's (ankle) status remains in doubt.

This team has to be desperate for WR/TE help. As the article points out, six sacks shouldn't happen when the other team is keying on the run and you have a decent OL. It happened though - in part because of a rookie QB, but also because nobody can seem to get open downfield. They don't just lack talent at the position, they lack proven experience. I don't think it'll be enough to draft one of the top WRs in this deep class upcoming, I think they need to get a vet via free agency or trade who can upgrade the position. They have to do better than washed-up/never-was Bobby Engram.

I also have to wonder when the LB carousel is going to stop. It seems every year they draft guys and bring in low-to-mid-level free agents to address the position, and it's the same shitty tackling, shitty pursuit and shitty pass rush all over again. Hell, I'll be happy next year if they draft a LB I've actually heard of before. I'm tired of them reaching for the guys from D-II, the guy with the cool-sounding Samoan name or the Matt Cassel/James Jackson of LBs - somebody who never cracked the starting lineup in college but *has* to be good because he caddied for the good LBs in front of him.

This team needs an infusion of talent and credibility at those two positions. Until then, the wins over teams like NO & NE are just fool's gold.

jax simply jammed all the wr's at the LOS and just dared cleveland to throw over the top, or to hit a slant pass in the seams. the wr's couldn't do squat. the one time robiskie did get open, he dropped the pass.

I sort of disagree with you regarding our need for more WRs. I think they are playing Robiskie in the wrong position and he probably should play slot receiver rather than wide same goes with Mass however we have Stuckey so I guess you are correct we have three slot receivers and no WRs. However, if the game plan is drawn up so the ball never goes more 15 yards, in the air, down the field what the hell do we need WRs for anyway. I have no idea why they do not put Evan Moore out wide because every time the ball is thrown his way he seems to catch it. I have no idea what his 40 time is but at least he can get down the field. I also look at teams like the Patriots and Colts and they really don't have any blazers at WR but they seem to win their fair share of games. I am at a complete loss when it comes to our passing game or lack thereof.

With regard to LBs I can't remember the last time that they drafted one. All they do is pick up guys who are the teams have let go. I really don't have any problem with them this year but almost all of our linebackers are getting a little long in the tooth and are going to need to replaced pretty soon.

The Browns almost need a couple more defensive backs and a rush lineman before addressing the LB position and why even bother with the WR position if you are not going to throw the ball down the field.

He has 51 tackles over seven seasons. Sounds like he executes at about the same rate as the current LBs. He'll fit right in.
he is just a special teams player but they did make some really significant moves on their practice squad:)

The Browns filled Costanzo's roster spot by signing linebacker Eric Alexander, a career special teamer most recently waived by Jacksonville.

They also exchanged spots on the practice squad, waiving offensive lineman Jeff Hansen and running back Martell Mallett and signing offensive lineman John Malecki and running back Quinn Porter.

The Patriots and Colts do have guys like Wes Welker and Reggie Wayne - two pretty damn good WRs. The Browns have nobody like either of those guys on their roster.

If you look at the guys behind those two though, you're right that the Pats or Colts may not be that much better at WR than the Browns. The problem with that is, both of those teams have QBs (future HOFers) that can make that work. The Browns on the other hand are playing a rookie - a guy who at this stage in his career needs help from other positions on the field to be successful.

Delhomme back in as Browns starter

BEREA, Ohio (AP) -- Jake Delhomme has spent most of his first season with Cleveland dispensing sound advice to rookie quarterback Colt McCoy.

This week, he lent him his walking boot.

With McCoy out with a high left ankle sprain, Delhomme, who has been inactive for eight games because of a similar injury, will start Sunday against his former team, the Carolina Panthers. Delhomme spent seven seasons in Carolina, leading the Panthers to their only Super Bowl appearance.

Delhomme hasn't started since the season opener Sept. 12, when he suffered a high ankle sprain in the first half against Tampa Bay. He returned to action Oct. 10, filling in against Atlanta when Seneca Wallace injured his ankle.

The reason they don't throw more than 15 yards downfield is that they have a rookie QB with no receivers. Robo has shown nothing to indicate he is an NFL player. Maybe he's out of position, but he has played horribly when given a chance. In all honesty, I would have cut him for the effort on that fumble a couple of weeks back. I know he's a Buckeye and all, but lets call a spade a spade. MoM is a #3 receiver on decent teams...Stuckey probably a #4 or 5. They need a WR that can make plays. Desperately. When you're +6 in turnovers and still manage to lose because you could only muster 20 points...you need offensive help in the worst way.

Fuck me. I've now totally lost interest. In true Cleveland form, just as they show some signs of life, everything goes in the shitter. Never fails. :smash:
