Cleveland Browns (2010 season)

If Jake and Wallace can't go I'd rather throw Ratliff to the wolves than Colt, unless they think Colt has progressed since the preseason. The Steelers should not be anyones first start at QB. Regardless Cribbs needs at least 10 snaps at QB this week.

There was speculation yesterday in the Cleveland PD and I posted it that they were thinking of trying to get Rattlif. If he is on their practice squad, the Browns just have to ask and he would be a Brown.

The Browns also signed Brett Ratliff off the Patriots' practice squad, his agent, Joe Palumbo said.

I don't care if Hillis was fully healthy this season I still would sign Jennings to at least a one-year deal because Harrison is not very durable and neither is Davis. I mean it's not like they have to give him a long-term contract and the way they are using Hillis he is going to have some bumps and bruises for the remainder of the year.

CLEVELAND -- If the Browns want to bring back running back Chris Jennings for Sunday's game in Pittsburgh, they'd better hurry.

Josh Arnold, Jennings' agent, said Tuesday, "If something doesn't happen soon, we may go the UFL (United Football League) route. There's a few teams involved there."

Jennings has been "on the street" since cut by the Browns in early September. Arnold said he has kept in touch with the Browns, but there is nothing imminent this week.

Jennings burst on the scene with a 73-yard rushing game and a 10-yard touchdown run in the Browns' 13-6 win over the Steelers in Cleveland in December. It was the club's first rush TD by a back last year.

The Browns may begin the practice week for the Steelers' game with leading rusher Peyton Hillis limited with a quadriceps muscle injury. Hillis pulled the quad at practice last week and then aggravated it at least two times in the Atlanta game on Sunday.

Eric Mangini expects Colt McCoy to 'seize' his chance if his Cleveland Browns debut is vs. the Steelers
The Browns are also bringing back quarterback Brett Ratliff, who was on the Patriots' practice squad, his agent Joe Palumbo said. Ratliff was on his way to Ohio Monday night to sign his contract, which guarantees him a minimum of three game checks. Ratliff was waived by the Browns in the final cuts Sept. 4 and caught on briefly with the Jaguars before landing in New England.
He's expected to be the No. 2 behind McCoy in Pittsburgh if one of the top two can't go. McCoy, the Browns' third-round pick out of Texas, is the winningest quarterback in NCAA history with a 45 wins in 53 starts.

"Sometimes opportunity knocks and if you get that opportunity, you've got to be ready to seize it," Browns coach Eric Mangini said Monday. "[McCoy's] played a lot of games -- not at this level -- but in college and he's been in the system for quite some time. I'd expect him to seize it and to capitalize on it and to play really well."

This just doesn't make sense. I know that they wanted well coiffed to sit this season and learn but what is Ratliff going to for us in the future. Might as well see what old Colt has in the holster:)

CLEVELAND -- Browns coach Eric Mangini said today he's "leaning toward'' starting rookie quarterback Colt McCoy Sunday in PIttsburgh.

The Browns top two quarterbacks, Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace, are both nursing their high ankle sprains today and are not expected to be ready to play.

Mangini said he wouldn't "rule out'' starting newly-signed Brett Ratliff, who's never taken a snap in a real NFL game, but it's more likely he'll go with McCoy since he's been with the team since draft day and has been taking reps all along. Ratliff, on the hand, was waived in the final cuts Sept. 4 and spent time with the Jaguars before landing on the Patriots' practice squad.
