Cleveland Browns (2009 Season)

I understand that most people don't realize when they're in a co-dependent relationship. However, when this reality becomes known, there IS the option to make a change. I'm here to tell you Browns fans that it's okay to...

just...
walk...
away.

You've given your heart to another that will just continue to trample you. Your identity has become that you feel attached to the heartbreak and pain. But I'm here to tell you that you CAN break the chains of bondage and walk away.

After having been a Cleveland Browns fan from 1979-2008, I decided to walk away this past fall. Sundays have been brighter and more enjoyable.

Just walk away.

There's a lot of wisdom in that post.

Depends on whether the ball was close to the receiver, but given the history of Cleveland fans, I'd put the odds at a solid 5/3.

I'd love to see Brady start throwing the ball deep. If you have one-on-one coverage with Braylon, just throw it up there. I'm not convinced that he can't do it. I'm still willing to give him time. But if the offense looks this bad and we're 0-8, it'll be time to go back to Anderson.

Problem I've seen is that he hangs on to the ball waaay too long for the time he has as it is, unfortunately...that could be a product of his badness or the OL badness, or the badness of the WRs who can't get open without a map and a scooter, but either way, it isn't exactly screaming effective deep passes at me.

Worst Browns team ever.
I didnt think they could possibly be worse than last year, yet I would spot the 2008 team two TD's versus the 2009 team.

I might spot the 2008 Lions 2 TDs if the Browns play the way they played Sunday. Week 1, no, but this week...very possible.

It means it's time to find a QB.
*cough* *cough* Troy Smith *cough*

Troy Smith is not a starting NFL QB. Decent backup? Yes. Usable in a "slash/wildcat" role? Yes. Starting QB for a successful NFL team? Doubtful.

I understand the love, but when they move on to the pros, I try to remove the S&G blinders.

I'm not going to walk away. It's much to easy in the NFL to go from a 2 win season to a 7 or 8 win season to the playoffs in a short span.

This isn't like say, the Baltimore Orioles. For the span of 3 solid years in the mid-90s, Peter Angelos and his mouth-breather sons completely destroyed what built the franchise, namely, the minor league system. They tried to be the New York Yankees - south and it utterly failed.

Add to that they've completely alienated every great player who has ever played for them, including Cal Ripken and the Robinsons.

The Browns are no where NEAR this level of suckitude.

I can't walk away. Too much love and time invested (not to mention fucking money).

I've been there for the high times (ok those conference championships fucking sucked).

I'm here and have been there for the low times.

At some point this town and this team are going to win a championship. The fans have too much love for it to go unrequited. That fucking stadium is full win or lose. They have to win it all one of these years.

Don't they?

While I'm not following the usage of the Baltimore Orioles in your statement, I want to state clearly that I commend those who stay as fans and those who don't. To each their own. I just couldn't take it any more, and I do truly enjoy my Sundays during the NFL season more. Take it FWIW.

LOL! I wish you well in your optimism.

Final Statement: I by no means want to make this thread about me, my dismissal of the Browns, or anything other than you guys discussing their season. I just wanted to share briefly, and my initial post satisfied that. I really feel for you guys in the torment you deal with. It sucks and I hope it gets better one way or the other.

Just to put it to you this way, in baseball you need a solid minor league system to feed the major league ballclub.

Where did a lot of the stars of the Yankees (the team the idiot was trying to emulate) come from? Jeter, Posada, Rivera, Pettite and Bernie Williams alll came from their minor league system. Add in some lower-cost by quality FAs (Paul O'Neill, Jim Leyritz, Scott Brosius) and there you have it.

The O's decided they would go the easy route, trade for guys like Roberto Alomar and sign guys like Albert Belle. While the Alomar trade mostly worked out, it stripped their minors system. Belle was a disaster. The franchise hasn't recovered in 12 years and likely won't be for at least another 5, if not longer.

The point I was trying to make is that while the Browns have pretty much sucked since they got back into the NFL, it's MUCH easier to turn around AND you don't have to suffer though 162 games of the same shit, just 16 and a bye week.

therefore, jumping off of the team wagon is going to take a much longer time for me. Besides when Angelos finally puts himself out of our misery, I'll probably watch Orioles games again.

Agree with where you're coming from but it also implies that the Browns must have good management to succeed in the future and if their #1 draft pick was any indicator I am a little concerned. I do not think that Mack is Mangold and I don't think it was that much of a position of need compared to some game breakers the Browns could have with that selection.

some three and four wide receiver sets might help. They go out and use both of their #2 draft choices on WRs and where are they this season. I think it might help me o-line also if they would not let the opposing defense stack the line of scrimmage because there are no WRs on the field.

Every year I check back in for awhile -- just to see if they've decided to be serious again or not. The draft pretty much tells it's own story about the state of business in Berea. I was almost tricked a couple years ago when they selected Thomas. But then they prematurely ejaculated and ruined not just that years draft but the next years as well.

That's only because it isn't possible to alienate our heritage.
Can't really piss Ozzie Newsome off when he's managing the turncoats.

[censored], the "heritage" is complicit in this. The hiring for key positions is so inbred it's no wonder the on-field product looks so retarded. The Browns have sucked for years, yet they continue to insist on hiring people who had their hands in previous [censored]ty versions of the Browns. At this point I'm afraid those are the only people who will even come to work for them anymore.
