Most years, I'd agree. But a good defense needs a gamechanger. Suh is that and with Rogers not getting any younger, I think you'd be crazy to pass up a chance to grab him. Same thing with Berry if you're picking in the 3-6 range and he's there. He's an Ed Reed type and if you have a chance to get one of those, you do it also.xcrunner;1616948; said:Personally I'm a fan of not necessarily using top-5 picks.. I like the approach the Browns had last year, where they kept trading down. When you have as many holes as the Browns do, I'm not sure it makes sense to try and have a 'savior', and that's what your top-5 pick often becomes.. Puts too much pressure on him and the team IMO.
See above, but to expound on my point: Berry looks like an Ed Reed type of disruptive force. Would you rather have that, or just settle for Coleman, who though he may end up being a very good safety, he's not a disruptive force like Berry could be. Great defenses often have game changing players. I think Berry is that and I think Suh is too.I think Suh is crazy but I also think they don't necessarily need to take him.. You can take 3 DLinemen later in the draft for less money than it would take to get Suh, and there is a ton of depth. You can go for Berry, and I'm not trying to be a homer, but let's say Coleman is mid-2nd round material, and Berry is top-5 material. Is there really that much of a difference between the two?
In fairness to Brady, and I was also never a fan, he's played on plum awful teams. I don't think he'll ever really be given a real chance to develop here because the supporting cast is just so damned bad. I also think the FO recognizes that and isn't going to give up on him yet. We need to sure up the rightside of the OL. We need recievers in the worst way. A guy fresh off the practice squad was Brady's top target last week for Christ sakes. I'm hoping Robo is just a slow burner and can eventually become a solid #2. Mo M has skills, but he reminds me a lot of Braylon...I think he has something like 7 drops this year which is ridiculous. RB is another area of dire need. Harrison isn't an every down back. I'm not sold on Davis by a longshot, but I think this is an area that can be addressed in rounds 2 or 3.And I still think Troy would be a good shot for them.. Just give him a shot. I was always ridiculously pissed they got Quinn. I get that he might be a better pro than Troy.. Although he hasn't really shown it yet.. But if he's better, was there much evidence he would be -that- much better? Trade up to get him vs get Troy in the 4th?

It would be a mistake to let that type of impact player slip by, however our drafts tend to be mistakes every year so I don't expect to see either one of them in a Browns uni next year.
Overwhelming consensus is that Berry will come out.Buckrock;1617783; said:Agree but if the Browns draft #1 is see them going with Suh. You can't teach size all things even. Is Berry even entering the draft? I wouldn't mind B. Spikes if he falls to the second round. We need playmakers on O BUT until our defense can stop folks we won't have a chance. Suh and Spikes up the middle (with Rogers and DQwell) would address your point of being "strong up the middle". CB and Saftey later in the draft along with RG, RT, TE and RB. Alot of needs some could be addressed in free agency but Clevelands a tough sell today.
More and more talk about Mangini's impending axing. I just don't see how he keeps this job. He's bumbled around from the get-go.Browns: Kosar in, Mangini out?
Though the Cleveland Browns aren't providing many clues regarding their plans for hiring a new General Manager and/or adding a "football czar" to lead the organization, a league source tells us that there's a growing sense something will be happening soon. The specific form of that something is unknown. Per the source, former Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar's words and demeanor are causing some to conclude that he's in line for a significant role with the team -- and multiple league insiders have opined to us that giving Kosar a seat at the table would be a huge mistake. One thing that is becoming more and more clear is that coach Eric Mangini likely won't be in the team's plans beyond the current season.
