Cleveland Browns (2009 Season)

I imagine that this will get pretty ugly until he is either given an extension or he is bye-bye. I would give him a raise but nothing like he is demanding if he still wants the money which Hester is sucking from the Bears.

Cleveland Browns coach Eric Mangini has no interest in trading Josh Cribbs

BEREA, Ohio -- Browns coach Eric Mangini said Friday he has "no interest in moving Josh Cribbs."

In response, Cribbs' agent J.R. Rickert said, "It is unfair for the Browns to hold Joshua back. They should either give him an extension or allow another team to acquire him. Their current position of doing nothing is no longer fair or appropriate.''

Rickert made it clear that he and Cribbs want the extension -- or a chance to go somewhere else. A source told The Plain Dealer on Thursday that Cribbs would welcome a trade if they won't re-do the deal, which runs through 2012.

At least five teams have expressed interest in trading for Cribbs, including Miami, Oakland, Jacksonville and San Francisco, according to nfl.com.

Mangini, when asked if Cribbs has asked for a trade, said "no.''

I'd open up the checkbook.. he's the ONLY offensive weapon we got.. no doubt, him and Rogers are the only two names that come up in a pre-game session by opposing teams...

Plus... I'm a homer... and I loved watching him play QB at Kent

therein lies the problem. he has proven that he isn't going to be a regular position player. he's a special teams guy that can maybe get a few gadget plays. those kind of guys tend to break down pretty early in their careers.

I'd be surprised if he was still effective by the end of his current contract, let alone with a 4 year extension like he wants. there is no way I'd pay him what he wants right now, especially with the added years. If you want to bump up his current base rate and tack on some incentives and extend him out an additional year, fine. anything more than that, in the salary cap era of football, is just dumb.

This is pretty reasonable IMO. Even with his drops. Let's hope they make the post season.

But if you're really a Browns fan, cheer for Edwards to have a good year in New York. He caught five passes in one game. I've heard he needs to catch 55 for the Jets this season for the third-round pick that is part of the trade to become a second-rounder.
