Cleveland Browns (2009 Season)

i'd be willing to bet the browns can get more than that for anderson. look at the pitiful qb draft, and the pitiful FA crop. someone will overpay for him.

Personally I doubt that they can get much more than a 3 and a 5 for DA. His value really took a hit after last season whether it was his fault or not.( Which it was partially his fault) His value was the highest it could have been after his Pro Bowl year, his value is no where near that now.

Not to mention that if it's the Lions' 3 & 5 (and not ones they received from another team) that's almost like getting a 2 and a 4.

COULD DEREK ANDERSON WIND UP IN TAMPA BAY?
Posted by Aaron Wilson on February 19, 2009, 3:19 p.m.

Trade rumors continue to swirl around Cleveland Browns quarterback Derek Anderson, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the latest team to be linked to him.

Although the Buccaneers have jettisoned Jeff Garcia and signed Luke McCown, Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune surmises that the team will want to have someone compete with him.

And Anderson, a towering, streaky former Pro Bowl selection, is regarded as a possibility for the Buccaneers under center for a price tag as low as a third-round draft pick, according to Cummings.

While also mentioning free agent quarterbacks, including Patrick Ramsey, J.P. Losman and Byron Leftwich, the article notes that Anderson might fit what offensive coordinator Jeff Jagodzinski is looking for to orchestrate his offense.

Per NFL.com, the 6-foot-6, 230-pound former Baltimore Ravens sixth-round draft pick passed for 1,615 yards, nine touchdowns and eight interceptions last season with a 66.5 quarterback rating in nine starts.

In 2007, he passed for 3,787 yards, 29 touchdowns and 19 interceptions for an 82.5 rating.

Cleveland Browns have eyes on New York Giants RB Derrick Ward
by Tony Grossi/Plain Dealer Reporter
Friday February 20, 2009, 11:20 AM

INDIANAPOLIS -- Browns coach Eric Mangini doesn't say much, so when he does say something definitive, it bears noting.

In a morning meeting with Northeast Ohio reporters, Mangini indicated strong interest in Giants free agent running back Derrick Ward.

Ward recently said on Jim Rome Is Burning that the Browns would be a team he would like to play for.

"He's a guy we'd look at," Mangini said. "I can tell you there's a lot of free agents we're looking at."

Ward rushed for 1,025 yards for the Giants in 2008, joining Brandon Jacobs as only the third pair of running back teammates to go over 1,000 yards in the same season. Ward is 5-11 and 228 pounds and will be 29 in August.

Cleveland Browns may have found their LB coach
by Tony Grossi/Plain Dealer Reporter
Thursday February 19, 2009, 4:39 PM

INDIANAPOLIS -- Browns coach Eric Mangini is on the verge of filling his vacancy at linebackers coach with Matt Eberflus, defensive coordinator and associate head coach at the University of Missouri. A source familiar with the situation indicated a deal is near.

Eberflus is a Toledo native and former linebacker at the University of Toledo. He has recruited several athletes from Northeast Ohio to the Missouri program. Eberflus' connection to Mangini runs through former Browns assistant Nick Saban, who is friends with Missouri head coach Gary Pinkel.

Linebackers coach is the most prominent vacancy on Mangini's staff.
A second source said the Browns could confirm the appointment as soon as Friday.

Sounds like a selling point for the Browns to me. Why spend a No. 1 pick on something like that when you can get the same thing (with experience) and use the top pick on another need?

(...because they're the Lions, I know.)

Come on Lions. I'll give you 3 starters for Calvin Johnson. Everyone wins.

Only if they pay the roster bonus. Otherwise, it's a 2nd or no deal.
I am with you. I think the Browns can get a little more than just a third round draft choice for Anderson with the draft being so short on QB's. I am not Lerner but I would be willing to pay:biggrin2: the roster bonus and give them DA for a second rounder.

Cleveland Browns still looking for receivers coach
by Tony Grossi/Plain Dealer Reporter
Friday February 20, 2009, 2:37 PM

INDIANAPOLIS -- It turns out that Wes Chandler will not return as Browns receivers coach.

Although Chandler is listed on the Browns official Website, coach Eric Mangini said the spot will be filled by someone else.

"We're still looking. That will be the last spot we would fill," Mangini said at the NFL combine.

Mangini would not confirm the hiring of Missouri defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus as Browns linebackers coach because a contract had not yet been signed.
also mentioned in the article was that Romeo might end up in Kansas City in some type of capacity.
