He seems like a nice guy, but he has no business being the head coach of a NFL teamexhawg;1268480; said:I put my money that Crennel will get fired if they lose next week and he will be fired after the season pretty much regardless of how they finish the season.
Browns considering switch to Quinn at QB
By TOM WITHERS

BEREA, Ohio ? Brady Quinn hurried from the shower, dressed quickly and hustled out of Cleveland's locker room so he wouldn't be late for Monday's team meeting.
"Sorry, guys," he said to reporters after taking only a few questions.
Bengals vs. Browns: A ?Battle of Ohio? defeat could cost a coach his job
By Chick Ludwig | Monday, September 22, 2008, 03:10 PM
SHOULD CRENNEL OR LEWIS
GET FIRED AFTER 0-4 START?
NFL IS A BOTTOM-LINE BUSINESS;
BOTH TEAMS HAVE UNDERACHIEVED;
AX COULD FALL ON LOSING COACH
With the Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns preparing to collide at Cincinnati?s Paul Brown Stadium with identical 0-3 records on Sunday, Sept. 28, the losing coach is a candidate to be fired on Monday, Sept. 29.
Both teams had high expectations and playoff aspirations when the 2008 season started, yet neither team plays hard all the time and both squads have dramatically underachieved.
The pressure is on Cleveland?s Romeo Crennel and Cincinnati?s Marvin Lewis to win like never before.

Quinn moves closer to goal Browns coach says backup quarterback could replace Anderson
By George M. Thomas

http://www.ohiomm.com/blogs/sportsblitz/ BEREA: Browns coach Romeo Crennel said backup quarterback Brady Quinn will get increased reps with the first team this week and, if necessary, he could replace struggling quarterback Derek Anderson on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Anderson has played erratically since the start of the season, and the Browns would head into their bye week 0-4 if they lose to a Bengals team that showed feistiness against the Super Bowl champion New York Giants before falling in overtime Sunday.
''I think we have to look at all positions. I think we have to get the other guy [Quinn] ready to go and we'll see how it progresses from there,'' Crennel said in his Monday news conference.
Anderson has struggled mightily in three games this season, completing 43-of-93 passes for 405 yards, two touchdowns and five
interceptions. He has a quarterback rating of 43.5.
Crennel said that the issues related to Anderson aren't totally of his making, pointing to the team's injuries and mistakes by players that affect overall production.

Angry Browns fans clamor for changes Crennel must win to keep job as coach

The Browns are 0-3.
Which comes darn near close to meaning the team's playoff chances are done.
The facts speak for themselves. Since 1990, 90 teams started 0-3 and only three made the playoffs
Things are grim.
Which means that fans ? based on e-mails and the words of the noisiest ? want this to be the Fire Season.
As in, fire the coach and fire the quarterback.
These are the easiest two targets when teams fail, for legitimate reasons. The coach is responsible for everything; the quarterback is the guy who leads
the team.
But attributing the Browns' problems to two people is like blaming the country's financial crisis on a state representative.
It's always interesting. Last season, the offense was good and coordinator Rob Chudzinski was heralded. This year, it's poor and his name barely is heard regarding criticism.

Crennel: Practice week will determine whether Quinn or Anderson start vs. Bengals
by Mary Kay Cabot Monday September 22, 2008, 7:46 PM
John Kuntz/The Plain DealerRoles could be soon reversed on the Browns sideline, if coach Romeo Crennel decides to make Brady Quinn (10) the starter over struggling Derek Anderson (3).
Browns coach Romeo Crennel made it clear Monday that he's considering benching Derek Anderson and starting Brady Quinn Sunday in Cincinnati. "I think we'll definitely try to get the other guy [Quinn] ready to go and we'll see how it progresses from there," Crennel said Monday in his breakdown of Sunday's 28-10 loss to the Ravens that dropped the Browns to 0-3. "We'll probably give him a few more reps in practice right now."
Asked if Quinn will start in Cincinnati against the 0-3 Bengals, Crennel said, "that determination hasn't been made yet. I'm not going to sit here and say that. I've told Quinn all along that he's one play away. I know he'll do everything he can to be ready. Then when he gets called on, I think he'll go in there, he'll perform to the best of his abilities and we'll have to see how good that is."
He said he wouldn't wait until the bye week following the Cincinnati game if he decides to make the change.
"I don't think the bye has an impact," said Crennel. "If you feel you can win the next game, you do what you need to do. I don't think you say 'we've got the bye coming, so let's not try to win the next one.'"
So what makes Crennel think that Quinn, who's never started an NFL game, would fare any better in an injury-riddled offense that's scored a league-low 26 points? Even the two teams which have only played two games -- Baltimore and Houston -- have scored more points.

Browns Insider: Crennel sympathetic to Lewis' criticisms of offensive game plan
by Mary Kay Cabot Monday September 22, 2008, 9:57 PM
John Kuntz/The Plain DealerJamal Lewis is brought down after a short gain in the third quarter Sunday by Baltimore's Ray Lewis. Jamal Lewis criticized what he said was an abandonment of the running game in the Browns' 28-10 loss to the Ravens.
Romeo Crennel didn't fault running back Jamal Lewis for saying his 12 carries in Baltimore were "pathetic" -- and he didn't disagree that he probably should've run the ball more. Lewis vented a little after the 28-10 loss to Baltimore, telling reporters, "For me to only have 12 carries is pathetic."
Lewis, who rushed for 92 yards in Baltimore last season, gained 56 yards for a 4.7-yard average. In the first half, when the Browns built a 10-7 lead, he rushed for 40 yards on nine carries for a 4.4-yard average.
Said Crennel: "Jamal played in Baltimore before he got here and he was ready to play this game. He wanted to go down there and show that he was still the running back that they got rid of. He wanted the ball more and I understand his frustration."
Lewis, who rushed for 1,304 yards last season, also said after the game that the offensive line did a good job of creating holes and that "we probably could've punched it in there a lot more."
In the first three games, Lewis is averaging about 15 carries and 65 yards a game -- a far cry from the 1,500 yards he hoped to gain this season.

It's crisis management time for Browns: Here are 10 suggestions to help fix a season
by Terry Pluto Monday September 22, 2008, 5:47 PM
John Kuntz/The Plain DealerWith the Browns' season in a free fall following an 0-3 start, Romeo Crennel faces some of the most important decisions of his coaching career prior to this week's game at Cincinnati. Complete Browns coverage
Romeo Crennel says he plans to "look at everything" as the Browns prepare for this week's game at Cincinnati. Sounds like a good idea. This is not to delve into the draft, trades or other off-season moves. Rather, let's see if what is the deal with the team now and what can be done to fix it.
Here are 10 comments and suggestions:
1. Overall, the defense is not a problem.
Yes, the Browns were scorched by Dallas, 28-10, in the opener. But they lost, 10-6, to Pittsburgh. The offense handed Baltimore a pair of TDs in Sunday's 28-10 loss to the Ravens. A third TD came on a short punt, putting Baltimore on the Browns 35.
In the last two games, the defense has allowed three TDs. Not great, but good enough to win. Kamerion Wimbley is a major disappointment. The stars and more than 60 percent of the money is on offense. The defense gets B for the last two games. Let's see more of Alex Hall.
2. Play calling is a problem.
Crennel said Browns got away from the run after they fell behind, 21-10, early in the third quarter at Baltimore. Wrong! They were up, 10-7, at the half, took the kickoff and immediately threw not one ... not two ... but three consecutive passes -- with the third picked off and returned to the Browns 12.

Change coming at QB? Crennel says Quinn may play this week
Tuesday, September 23, 2008

BEREA Browns fans know the drill.
The circumstances keep changing ? this time it's Derek Anderson's numbing 43.5 passer rating amid an 0-3 start ? but the Browns are always changing quarterbacks.
Cleveland Head Coach Romeo Crennel indicated Monday that Brady Quinn might play against the Bengals on Sunday.
Might Quinn start in place of Anderson?
"That determination hasn't been made yet, so I am not going to sit here and say that," Crennel said. "I have told Quinn all along that he is one play away, and that's the way he has to approach it.
"I know that he will do everything he can to be ready ... I think he will go in there and perform to the best of his ability. We will have to see how good that is."
Crennel talked Monday in a way that was taboo during the winter, spring and most of the now-finished summer.
Then, it was a matter of building up Anderson's confidence. Now, it's a matter of giving a team whose confidence might be shot something to hang its helmet on.
A move would come with no guarantees from Crennel.
