Special teams, pfft! He looks like a starter to me. Kid is a baller and I love the way he brings the wood 6'1 240lbs and can go sideline to sideline.

Did you happen to see the Dayton daily news article that was posted earlier in this thread? Savage said specifically that he was brought in to be a special teams beast.
So many of the posters in this thread seem to think being a special teamer is unimportant. I can't believe that amount of posters that wanted to argue the point that Hubbard, Bell and Rucker were brought in to improve the special teams when Savage said Before the draft they were going to concentrate on this part of the team with picks #4 thru #7 and talked about Bell specifically after they drafted him as being a special teamer.
Savage also said before the draft that they were looking hard at the TE position for a couple reasons....to be an insurance policy for Winslow and to be a big special teams player....And what do they do? They draft a very athletic TE that will be perfect on special teams.

I believe he played for the West tx A&M javalinas(of the lone star Conference, Div II), previously transferred from USC, grew up in Palolo, HI
(probably went to Kamehameha HS)

Please read that so you understand that we did not trade up for 2 guys so that they could be career special teamers. They WILL play special teams, but they are future starters.

A fun part of the NFL draft is to reflect on some of the scouting reports. The negatives are especially entertaining because you end up thinking that a lot of these guys have about as much chance to make it in the league as a middle-aged sportswriter.
The most bizarre I've seen this year concerned Martin Rucker, a tight end from Missouri who the Browns selected in the fourth round with a pick obtained from the Dallas Cowboys for next year's third-rounder.
Rucker's father is a Congressman, so he's led an easy life, Pro Football Weekly's 2008 Draft Preview implies: "Has a sense of entitlement having come from a very successful family and must learn what it really means to work." Of course, he did work hard enough to lead the nation's tight ends with 84 receptions last season, but who's counting?

Cleveland Browns sign 23 free agents

Four cornerbacks, three running backs and two receivers are among 23 undrafted free agents signed by the Browns, according to theredzone.org.
The cornerbacks are:
Jerrid Gaines of Miami (Ohio), Gerard Lawson of Oregon State, Darnell Terrell of Missouri and Jonathan Zenon of Louisiana State.

The team also claimed safety Steve Cargile via waivers from the Denver Broncos. Cargile is a native of Cleveland who graduated from Chanel High School and Columbia University. He was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2004 by Dallas and played the past two years with Denver.

In another case of "yes, you can go home again," former St. Peter Chanel High School football and basketball star Steve Cargile has been claimed by the Browns via waivers from the Denver Broncos.
Cargile, a converted safety, remembers participating in a Browns local tryout prior to the 2004 draft. The Butch Davis regime wasn't interested.
Cargile was undrafted and signed by Dallas. He has spent the past two NFL seasons as a backup safety and special teamer with Denver.

Browns turn to Plan B cornerbacks

BEREA Having struck out in the draft, the Browns are hoping for a hit from an undrafted cornerback.

Among 2007 college cornerbacks due in Berea for a weekend minicamp after going undrafted, LSU's Jonathan Zenon might have been the likeliest to help. However, early indications Zenon would be a Brown were not corroborated by an official list issued by the Browns today. Instead, Darnell Terrell of Missouri might be the top candidate.

Scouts who reported for The Sporting News saw Zenon as a serious contender for a roster spot. Their bottom line: "Zenon will cause major debates in draft rooms. Teams that play a lot of man to man will drop him way down, while teams using cover-2 zones will rate him higher. Zenon has the talent to be a good NFL backup, but his lack of speed exposes him."

NFL Draft Scout posted a harsher report, saying "Zenon was picked on as his senior year progressed. ... Lack of speed may have exposed him on a team putting less pressure on QBs than LSU."

BEREA Phil Savage laughs about signing undrafted free agents.

The Browns will haggle over a $500 disagreement on a $2,000 signing bonus as hotly as they would contest a point in Brady Quinn's contract.

When the smoke clears from this year's roundup, Savage is hoping for serious help from at least one player rounded up in the wake of the draft.

The team said 15 free-agent signees are expected to report to this weekend's rookie minicamp. The list does not include an additional group of tryout candidates whose NFL careers might be over by Monday.

The team is looking for cornerback help. Six-foot-2 Darnell Terrell of Missouri might be the most promising undrafted pick-up.

Information on UDFA corner that were signed by the Browns. They sound pretty good to be but at this stage of the game and a cornerback sounds good. Supposedly, he was rated as the best CB that was undrafted.

Height: 6-3 | Weight: 205
Terrell is a big, physical corner who has good instincts and awareness in the secondary. He jams receivers at the line of scrimmage and stalls their release. He uses his big frame to his advantage in coverage and matches up well with bigger receivers. He takes good angles and has good closing speed. He has good ball skills and will also defend against the run. He has to improve his footwork and position himself better in coverage. He struggles against speedy receivers, but impedes their progress at the line of scrimmage. Terrell is better suited to play safety in the NFL. He has a lot of skills and is physically imposing. He has a chance to develop into a nice player and will be a mid-round selection.
