Cleveland Browns (2008 Season)

buckeyefool;1133445; said:
Riiiiighhtttttt. You cut a db that probably wouldn't even make the team this year. Last time I checked the Browns still have Jamal Lewis on their Roster. Plus you sign Steinbach who got a DUI while with the Bengals.....and didn't you have another DB get busted at an Airport?

Not saying any other team is any better as far as having problem children on the team, but don't act like the Browns don't have quite a few on thier team also.

A bit touchy on the subject? I never said my team were the collective angels. However you do rarely hear or have this thing happen in the organization as the discipline both on and off the field is evident. What I was referring too wasn't directly the bungles though... and if you must make a solid comparison; were not giving current (or most likely to be prosecuted) felons a roster spot at least. Not to mention were not giving this young man 14 chances to do the right thing. I'll agree with Jamal, however he has paid his debt to society and from what I can tell, hasn't had any scrapes with the law since he's been in orange and brown. Steinbach isn't much of a problem and if we want to give the best example. KW2 use to be a punk (see "fucking solider" while at the U) but has very much grown and matured while being in the NFL and under our colors.

If our players keep their nose clean, I can't ask for much more seeing some of the other criminal/athletes in the NFL.

And there in lies the problem....just like every other team in the NFL you players don't keep their nose clean. So don't act like it.

And like I said before...the team didn't even cut the player yet.

I'm not sure why you're over here giving Browns fans a lesson in player behavior?

Did a player get in trouble for smoking weed and disorderly? Yes.

Until we have 8 other guys do the same thing this year, you probably shouldn't talk. Every team is going to have a few bad seeds, not every team is going to have enough seeds to harvest a field, or team in this case, such as the Cincinnati Bengals.

And as long as it is acknowledged that every team has guys who screw up, there is no issue. It is the attitude of "our organization doesn't tolerate screw-ups" that is somewhat irksome when the team DOES have guys on the roster that have screwed up in the past.

Exactly. At no point have I tried to defend the Bengals of any other team for players arrested. But until you have no one on your team who has ever gotten arrested you can't really say your team doesn't tolerate criminals.

:slappy::slappy::slappy::slappy::slappy::slappy::slappy::slappy::slappy::slappy:@ the bungles fans. don't take shit so personal.

Let's face facts: there is no NFL team, including cincinnati, that tolerates shit like this. NOBODY

The fact that a fan says our organization doesn't tolerate it doesn't mean it won't/can't happen. It means the organization isn't going to condone it.

If the team forgives certain individuals so be it, I trust they are doing what's best for the team and let bygones be bygones. sp?

It's only when organizations give individuals third, fourth, fifth and sixth chances that it becomes obvious there is a "recurring theme" that needs to be broken and they need to be banned from pro ball.

If a mortgage broker is busted for fraud do you give him five or six more cracks at it or do you pull his license and say have a nice day?

again,

shit happens don't take it so personal :wink2:

Were talking about current offenses man; the Browns organization can't do anything about the past unless somebody had God on speed dial. All they can do is work with the player on his present and future behavior. Which is what I'm saying, I haven't seen any significant number Cleveland players involved in legal scraps with the law let alone getting away with it. Wright is getting what he deserves, and don't kid yourself - he WILL be cut from this team.

edit: and AFAIK - I haven't seen Phil Savage or Romeo Crennel tolerate the actions of a potential felon... maybe thats just me?

double edit: and just some food for thought on the upcoming AFC north competition. While the bungles have done nothing much besides successfully pissing off their #1 WR, we've been adding depth and strength all across our roster.
AFC north is ours this year... as well as the two victories in The Ohio Battle. Go Brownies!!!

This isn't about Cleveland vs. Cincinnati. This is about the fact that the Cleveland front office isn't some bastion of virtue in the league. They have had troubled players, just like every other team. That's the whole point of this argument.

And I'll be the first to admit that Cincy is the worst and should be embarrassed by what they've done, just so we're clear that I don't have any pretenses towards what a joke that organization is.

I just ran a search for my name in the Bengals tidbits thread . It said, sorry no matches found. That must mean that I don't troll the thread devoted to another team, looking for reasons to take offense to comments made by another team's fans.

Once again, I am not saying that any team is better here, but here is just a jist of players who were arrested "under your colors"

Reuben Droughns, fresh off a not-guilty verdict in a DUI trial, spent a night in jail last month after the Cleveland Browns running back was arrested for allegedly throwing his wife out the door (literally).

Mike Mason, 22, has been in police custody since his arrest late Saturday night.

The wide receiver pleaded not guilty to aggravated disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and obstructing official business, all misdemeanors.

Bodden was arrested outside Cleveland Hopkins Airport today and charged with aggravated disorderly conduct and resisting arrest

Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Gerard Warren pleaded guilty to a gun charge Friday, five months after he was arrested while attending a party thrown by Steelers wide receiver Plaxico Burress.

Browns fullback Mike Sellers was charged Tuesday felony cocaine possession after being arrested along with teammate Lamar Chapman, who was charged with felony drug abuse, following a Monday night traffic stop in Cleveland.

Want me to keep going?

you really don't want to play that game....you had to go back almost 4 years for some of that...we can go back to last year and find more arrests than that on the Bengals

Bucky Katt gets it, you seem to want to compare the Browns to Bengals.

It's not even close.

The Browns fall in line with the rest of the NFL when it comes to arrests. The Bengals just embarass the NFL and make life easier for the other organizations.

How many teams have had a player considered a "one man crime wave" and needed Roger Godell to come in for a team meeting?

That's the only point trying to be made. Nowhere in this discussion has bfool compared the Browns to the over-the-top (possibly criminally insane ) Bengals.
