Cleveland Browns (2007 & prior)

Thing goodness for automatic replay in OT. Romeo would have never thrown his red hanky on that third-down run by M. H. They were on their way to a game-winning FG if they had made that first down. PD needs to get serious about his extra points. That first miss almost cost us the game.

Winslow was a warrior with a separated shoulder. I don't know that Edwards had an injury which prohibited him from making those two catches which almost cost us the game. He played well but there is no excuse for those two drops.

Yeah, just when I think he could shake the "Brickhands-Braylon" nickname for good, he has a couple shitty drops in a game. He has matrued so much between last season and this, if he could just stop with the sporadic drops, he would be considered one of the Top 5 receivers in the game.

By Sean McClelland
Staff Writer

Tuesday, November 06, 2007
BEREA ? You know something is afoot with your favorite football team when local TV stations broadcast live from outside team headquarters ? at noon Monday.
It's either a sign somebody is about to be fired or that the team is playing way better than expected.

Anderson a cool customer at QB

Team on pace for first winning record in home stadium; decision on Bentley could come today.

BEREA ? In the classic "cool quarterback" story, Joe Montana points out comedian John Candy in the stands just before leading a Super Bowl-winning drive.
Browns quarterback Derek Anderson is gaining a reputation for coolness, too.

Today's Browns should be taken seriously We have many reasons to take Browns seriously
Published on Tuesday, Nov 06, 2007

CLEVELAND: In talk last week with a personnel guy from another NFL team, the question was posed: Are the Browns for real?
''They're playing a lot better,'' he said. ''Are they for real? I don't know.''
This statement came before the oh-so-exciting win Sunday over the Seattle Seahawks, so there's no way to know whether said personnel guy has changed his mind.
But it does bring to mind another question: When exactly is a team ''for real''?

Browns better than Week 1 Offense puts up points as line solidifies, play at QB improves
By Marla Ridenour Beacon Journal sportswriter
Published on Tuesday, Nov 06, 2007
BEREA: Eight hours before Monday Night Football kicked off, Browns coach Romeo Crennel had his game plan for the evening.
He would be entrenched in his office with the television tuned to the AFC North showdown between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens. But the sound would be muted to silence the commentary because ''a lot of it is just one guy's opinion.'' He'd really be watching a coaches copy of an earlier Steelers game, with an occasional glance to the live one.

HE'S ALL HEART

Winslow's emotional outpouring Sunday reveals a much deeper man behind the reckless-kid image
Tuesday, November 06, 2007
ellen Winslow showed a softer side of himself when he shed tears after the overtime victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, and he will do the same at 7 tonight when he's featured on ESPN's "E:60."
ESPN reporter Michael Smith arrived in Cleveland with the same perception of Winslow most people in the country have of the Browns tight end: that he's the punk who embarked on his soldier rant at the University of Miami (Fla.), that he's the reckless kid who almost ended his career - and his life - by performing stunts on a motorcycle, and that he talks endless trash with guys like Miami Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter.

Winning cures many of the Cleveland Browns' woes, says Bud Shaw

Tuesday, November 06, 2007Bud Shaw
Plain Dealer Columnist
With Wikipedia such a handy and pliable tool, it's surprising somebody didn't define "woe" as "an illness peculiar to Browns football that General Manager Phil Savage targeted for eradication."
Of course, winning is the only proven antidote for the disease that annually runs roughshod by this time of year.
November has always been the month for one-stop prevention: A flu shot for the right arm, a woe shot for the left.

Cleveland Browns coach Romeo Crennel vows to meet Pittsburgh Steelers' challenge

Tuesday, November 06, 2007Mary Kay Cabot
Plain Dealer Reporter
Coach Romeo Crennel thinks the Browns are more confident heading into Sunday's first-place battle with the Steelers than they were in the first meeting, a 34-7 Steelers victory in Cleveland.
"I think this team is a different team than the team that played on opening day," Crennel said. "We didn't know exactly where we were going to be offensively. We felt we were going to be better defensively.
"We felt like we were going to be better in that game, but we weren't. But this is a different team now because the offense has come together, and they're able to put points on the board and have been able to move the ball. With that being said, you still have to go out and play the game - probably our best game of the year."

Winslow makes all 11 count
Tuesday, November 6, 2007
By Steve Doerschuk
REPOSITORY SPORTS WRITER

BEREA Romeo Crennel couldn't decide which of Kellen Winslow Jr.'s catches was his favorite. Who could remember them all?

"They were all good," the Browns head coach said, "because they were moving the chains."

This wasn't like Winslow's other 11-catch game a year ago today in a loss to the Chargers. At San Diego, he finished with 74 yards, less than half the 125 he delivered in Sunday's 33-30 overtime win over Seattle.

"That's huge offensively, to be able to move the chains," Crennel said.

Crennel, Browns 'looking forward' to rematch with Steelers
UPDATE: 1:40 PM, Monday, November 5, 2007
By Steve Doerschuk
Repository sports writer

BEREA The Browns have turned their world upside down in two months ? to the sunny side of the universe.

The Browns who lost 34-7 to Pittsburgh on opening day looked as hopeless as the ones who fell 41-0 to the Steelers in the 1999 franchise relaunch game.

Since that Sept. 9 debacle, though, they have won five of seven games. Hope is all around heading into a rematch at Pittsburgh on Sunday.

?We?re gonna play a good game,?? a buoyant Head Coach Romeo Crennel said today in the wake of Sunday?s 33-30 overtime conquest of Seattle. ?Our guys are gonna play good.

?They?re gonna be looking forward to it. It?s gonna be a good game.??

It has become a frustrating series. The Browns haven?t beaten Pittsburgh since 2003.

But then, this looks like a different Browns team. It has won three straight games for the first time since 2001.

There are some glitches amid the hope.

Right guard Seth McKinney missed most of the Seattle game with a shoulder injury. The Browns have started the same offensive linemen in all eight games but might have to make a change.

Crennel did not disclose McKinney?s condition but indicated the replacement starter would be Lennie Friedman or Ryan Tucker. Both veterans have been in the league since the 1990s. Crennel said Friedman did ?a nice job?? against Seattle, which failed to sack Derek Anderson despite many chances - he threw a career-high 48 passes.

Tucker alternated at right tackle with Ryan Shaffer.

Tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. has been playing with a shoulder injury he has said will follow him through the season. Winslow came aay from an 11-catch, 125-yard game saying he will ?pay for?? some of Sunday?s hard landings.

Today, Crennel would not speculate on Winslow?s status for this week?s practice ? players had Monday off and won?t practice until Wednesday.

?Kellen is a competitor,?? Crennel said. ?He wants to be out there.??

Meanwhile, the Browns have until Tuesday to activate, place on injured reserve or release center LeCharles Bentley. Crennel said the decision will come tomorrow and gave no clues as to what it will be.

When 5-3 looks good Past AFC Browns contenders hit that mark
Tuesday, November 6, 2007
By Steve Doerschuk
Repository sports writer

BEREA Compared to New England's 8-0, Cleveland's 5-3 is hardly as lovely as New England in the fall.

But compare elsewhere.

The 1986, '87 and '89 Browns teams that reached AFC title games all were 5-3 after eight games. The expansion-era Browns were, in their best years, 4-4 in 2001 and '02.

Butch Davis' last two teams were 3-5 and 3-5. Head Coach Romeo Crennel's first two were 3-5 and 2-6.

All things considered, 5-3 looks like a million.

Offensive line depth could be challenged
JEFF SCHUDEL, Morning Journal Writer
11/06/2007

BEREA -- Depth on the Browns offensive line will be tested this week if a shoulder injury prevents right guard Seth McKinney from practicing and playing against the Steelers Sunday.

McKinney was injured playing the Seahawks and finally had to leave the game late in the third quarter after trying to fight through the injury. He did not return. Lennie Friedman replaced him and, except for a holding penalty in the fourth quarter, filled in well.

There is a chance Ryan Tucker could play right guard, but coach Romeo Crennel likes rotating Tucker and Kevin Shaffer at right tackle. McKinney will be evaluated throughout the week.

Browns are gaining points

By Sean McClelland
Staff Writer

Wednesday, November 07, 2007

BEREA ? Statistics reveal only so much, but the big one for the Cleveland Browns involves points.
The Browns have scored 227 points. What a difference from previous seasons when simply putting more than one touchdown on the board was cause for raucous celebration, maybe even a parade.

Browns find some direction, but where will it take them?

By Sean McClelland
Staff Writer

Wednesday, November 07, 2007

BEREA ? Phil Dawson, the only player still with the Cleveland Browns from the 1999 expansion team, knows a lot about losing.
The placekicker is uniquely qualified to assess what makes this team better than previous editions.
