Cleveland Browns (2007 & prior)

WOW. Fucking WOW.

I can't remember another Browns loss in the last 5 years, since the playoff loss, that felt this shitty. The difference between 2-1 vs. 1-2 in today's NFL is absolutely HUGE. Considering the games coming up on the Browns schedule, today was a must win. Go ahead and laugh, if you aren't a Browns fan, but then again why are you in this thread anyway if you aren't......:paranoid:

They do enough to get a firm ass grip right on your heart strings, just good enough to give a tug, strong enough to make you want to puke.

Give it up for Oakland, at least you can't say that they don't learn their lessons. They did to us EXACTLY what Denver just did to them. Amen, Lane Kiffin, you may just do okay for yourself. Romeo, Romeo....where for art thou next year, Romeo?

This defense is awful and the offense isn't even close to good enough to score enough to win against teams outside of the Bungles. If we win 4 games, i'll be shocked. Best part is, there's no silver lining in those 4 wins because we don't have a first rounder to fuck up next year. Guess we can hope one of the good backs in next years draft falls to the top of round 2.:2004:

Also, Quinn will be starting after the bye week. Anderson reverted back to his old form after the bungles made him look like Brett freakin' Farve in his prime.

Fuck I hate being a Browns fan.

Agreed. It's just sad that I can't even get a 2 game winning streak, which in all honesty, shouldn't even be considered a streak. More like a pattern.

Hell if they won 2 games in a row, then I would really be considered a delusional Browns fan, and I would then have an entire week to make a fool of myself by expecting 3. Some things do just take care of themselves entirely by themselves.

Like I told my one buddy who I watched the game with (a Cowboys fan), at least the Buckeyes do their part to make it a great, if not easy, weekend. If I had 2 easy wins in a given weekend, then that would make for a foot-in-mouth situation.

The Cleveland Browns exist simply to keep me grounded. I firmly believe that.

Question, Is Brady Quinn with 1 year of experience worth the 1st pick of the draft? Because that is what the Browns gave up for him.

I'm not saying he's not. Hell, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if he turns it around when he finally gets in there. But the defense has to be fixed.

If he ends up being a damn good quarterback, then yes. Here's a question, exactly how are all those high first-round picks working for us? If Quinn turns out to be a winning quarterback, then it was definitely worth the pick.

Anyway, as to the game, isn't Crennel supposed to be some sort of defensive mastermind? My God, we suck on defense. Oh, and thanks for Brodney Pool, Butch Davis. That was one hell of a pick. I'm surprised you didn't draft Ernest Shazor.

For the third week in a row, our defense played like total shit.

That's a great way of looking at things.

Poole was drafted in 2005, under RAC. We simply do not have the line or DBs to effectively run the 3-4 defense he mastered in NE. We can't get pressure on the QB, and worse yet, our DBs are pitiful in pass coverage. I'm not sure Poole would make half the teams in the NFL. How many times already this year has the other team's recievers been left wide open? Pathetic.

I get the feeling that it's a question that cannot be answered right now, or maybe even in the next 3 years. The QB position in the NFL is an interesting one. It, more than any other position, can define a team and their future just by one good or bad draft day decision.

Peyton Manning was drafted by the Colts, and had failed entirely to live up to expectations until he won the Super Bowl last January. If Brady Quinn gets the Browns to the playoffs 2 seasons in a row, is that where we have drawn the line, to make it worth it?

With other teams going from worst to first, it gets hard to see my boys drafting top 10 every year. It's even worse when we give up that privelege. But there's no way to tell by next year's draft whether or not it was a good move.

There are always good RB's to be found in the 2nd round and beyond. It remains to be seen if Cleveland can capitalize.

You're right. I got his draft and Sean Jones' draft mixed up. Hell, Jones is pretty solid. I still hate Butch, though.

And when it comes to our defense, "Pathetic" is too nice of a word.

This is true, but it's getting ridiculous how the Browns just are unable to make this leap. Be it personnel, bad coaching, bad fucking luck with injuries or whatever, I'm sick and fucking tired of being a fan of a team that year in and year out is one of, if not the worst in the NFL. The Chargers made the leap, even the happless Saints did it last year, but we just get worse and worse every fucking year. I'm running out of patience with this franchise. I've been against Quinn being inserted, but we need to see what he has. If he's not starting after the bye week, i'm done with this team until I see a real reason to start paying attention again. I hope Savage's show of confidence in RAC was just to get through the season too, because he is not an NFL head coach, period.

I'm a firm believer that you must have players to make up for the inadequacies of other players. For example, Sean Jones and Brodney Poole are the same exact player...both physical, good tacking safeties, even though neither could guard me in pass coverage (5'7 white guy with 4.9 speed)....plus, our front 3 is prob the worst int he NFL.....does Ted Washington do anything for this team at all? I know I'd rather see a tackle who can actually tackle...I don't think Ted Washington is capable of anything at hat weight...Oakland absolutely domainated us with their ground game today

I know for a fact that Lerner has begun to request input on whether it's a good idea to put feelers out for a new head coach

It certainly makes no sense to change head coaches during the middle of the year IMO unless that coach, is your next head coach

RAC needs to finish the year out, and be replaced w/ a solid, football savy, Head Coach

The thing that pisses me off about the coaches, and Crennel mostly, is the lack of football knowledge...today is a perfect example. Why not use your last timeout with 2:12 left on the clock? They wasted 12 seconds by not taking that timeout. You'd think to be an NFL head coach, you'd have a full understanding of the game and be able to see things most causal obeservers wouldn't, but I don't get that feeling w/ Romeo

Against Pittsburgh he challenged a fumble by Anderson that was already a backwards thrown pass.....even if the referees decided it was the tuck rule, the ball went backwards so it's a fumble...things like that drive me crazy.

Get someone in here who can differentiate their ass from their elbow.

In reply to some of the comments on this page:

Yes, Quinn is worth the high draft pick we are giving up this year. In addition to the one year of experience, what QB in this year's class has the credentials he has? Yeah, he played for ND and all that, but he did run a pro style offense, played in a high pressure atmosphere, and made those around him better. I have said since before the season he will start after the bye week. I still stand by that.

As to the DB's, Wright is being exposed for the rookie he is. I think they made a huge mistake letting Russell go during the offseason. I also believe they do not let the CB's play true cover defense.

Grantham needs to put up or shut up this year. He was the standout coach on the staff the past few years because his defense was better than the offense. Of course, how much is that truly saying?
