Cleveland Browns (2007 & prior)

as for the dorsey matter, dorsey played in chudzinski's offensive system for years, and knows it inside and out. quinn even made comments that he was sad to see dorsey cut because he learned so much from him in a short time. Dorsey even called Quinn in Arizona to keep him updated on new parts of the offense being installed before quinn actually signed. that is dorsey's value, which is something neither one of the franderson's, nor any off the street vet can offer.

Ahhh, ok. That explains the Dorsey connection. Thanks.

no, what happened was that GB was looking at frye for their 1st round pick in 2005, which was around #25. but then, aaron rogers had his massive free-fall, which landed him in green bay's lap, and jason campbell in washington's. therefore, frye fell all the way to cleveland in the 3rd, which is why so many people thought it was a good deal to pick him when they did.

As I recall now, the Browns really wanted to draft Campell but the Redskins got him first so the Browns were almost stuck with drafting Charlie in the 3rd period

So the national nightmare is over....

anything more than Matt Hasselbeck's toupee and 3 pounds of chopped seaweed is a bargain....

While I'm still of the opinion this team is more than a QB away from winning, Frye was done the moment they pulled him at the end of the 1st Quarter.

Alright, but this is a big waste of time. But if you make a blanket statement like "the Bengals have always been better than the Browns" without backing it up, then I'll have back up that your statement is completely unfounded.

1968: Cleveland 10-4 Cincinnati 3-11
1969: Cleveland 10-3-1 Cincinnati 4-9-1
1971: Cleveland 9-5 Cincinnati 4-10
1972: Cleveland 10-4 Cincinnati 8-6
1978: Cleveland 8-8 Cincinnati 4-12
1979: Cleveland 9-7 Cincinnati 4-12
1980: Cleveland 11-5 Cincinnati 6-10
1983: Cleveland 9-7 Cincinnati 7-9
1985: Cleveland 8-8 Cincinnati 7-9
1986: Cleveland 12-4 Cincinnati 10-6
1987: Cleveland 10-5 Cincinnati 4-11
1989: Cleveland 9-6-1 Cincinnati 8-8
1991: Cleveland 6-10 Cincinnati 3-13
1992: Cleveland 7-9 Cincinnati 5-11
1993: Cleveland 7-9 Cincinnati 3-13
1994: Cleveland 11-5 Cincinnati 3-13
2001: Cleveland 7-9 Cincinnati 6-10
2002: Cleveland 9-7 Cincinnati 2-14

So of the 36 years that Cleveland and Cincinnati have both been in existence, Cleveland has had a better record 18 times.

Care to rephrase the "has always been better" language to "has been just as shitty"?

Don't forget the Browns were extinct for four years of the Bungles in their prime.

If anyone is naive enuf to think Charlie Frye was the lowest element of the Browns... they are in for one helluva awakening... 3-13 is optimistic... this team needs a coach...

amusing how a punter who drops his first snap and then launches a 15 yard punt somehow gets a get-out-of-jail... a RT who looked like a swinging gate watching the DE go by gets a get-out-of-jail... WRs who cannot separate seem to get get-out-of-jail cards...

the offense has never synced during the entire pre-season.. and it continues to show...

Brady will come in... and they will make the offense very vanilla so he'll look good at times... but the other defenses will put in their most complicated schemes so expect the kid to do everything he can just to keep his head attached to his shoulders... this is not a mobile QB.. he needs protection... and is used to WRs that can catch...

Die-hard fan but dammit... we're still so damn far away... from mere respectability let alone playoff level...

The Voice of Reason.

The thing that really gets me is that this team needs to be built from the inside out, rather than the outside in. The thing that really kills me is that the Browns have been trying to build an offensive line with that in mind - and they can't. Bentley would have been the best center in football, but he blows his knee, gets a staph infection, and his attempt at a comeback will come up sadly short. Shaffer blows donkey cock. So does Fraley. Thomas is still just a rookie. And Steinbach isn't 100%.

So while this team should have been able to draft the next Eric Dickerson in Adrian Peterson, we had to pass and build from the inside out. And if we're lucky (when has that ever been the case?), it will work out in 2-3 years.

That actually is funny but Bengals fans have thicker skin than that. We don't get all pissy every time someone disses our team.

30 years of watching cleveland implode, and what has been nice is no matter how bad the Bengals have been we have always been better than the browns.

Right except for if you go back 20 years you have that superbowl apperence by the bengals that is thrown in there. How many superbowls have the browns been to?

Sure sounds a little pissy to me....

Charlie held the ball too long. Plain and simple. We do have receivers that are a bit slow, but considering they never get the ball to them on a regular basis it is hard to know what they are capable of. The punter will be gone assuming Gardocki is healthy this week. I think they have a coach. He just needs to kick some serious ass the next five games to be here through the season.

Also, this is what you get for drafting an Akron QB. Look how smart they were with the Kent QB, they made him a WR/Returner.

I did hear a funny one today. Romeo said if they had to put BQ in they would have to remove a good portion of the playbook. Someone commented if that meant they would have to throw out the plays where the QB was to hold the ball too long, get tackled and then fumble. :tongue2:

I was listening to Cort and FatBoy on AM 1480 (I think that's the number here) out here in Oregon. They were talking about the Patriots and the sign theft video. A caller called in and said that he thought this would be bigger issue IF a really bad team beat a really good team. Thus, there would be a reason to call the victory into question. One of the hosts said (paraphrased), "Yeah, if Cleveland or Oakland beats anyone; then there needs to be an all out investigation to see if they were stealing signs." I just sat in my car thinking, "Damn. Nothing like getting slapped by some West Coast talk show." There are a few things about my home state, and the Browns are one of them. But they sure don't make it easy. At least, I can rely on my Bucks to make the weekend bearable during football season.

Is Brady next in line?
Wednesday, September 12, 2007

The Browns have made their decision. Charlie Frye is gone, and Derek Anderson will start Sunday against the Bengals. Who do you think the starter should be? Leave your comments at the bottom of this page.

Derek Anderson will start Sunday at home against the Bengals, even though many fans might prefer rookie Brady Quinn. The real problem, though, might be the Browns? offensive line.

Latest QB move is one of disorganized franchise

BEREA

For all of August, Charlie Frye kept trying to prove his feel-good story could become a best seller. The hometown product who grew up two hours away from Cleveland Browns Stadium always seemed to do enough in the preseason to be the Browns quarterback.

In reality, Frye didn?t do much in the preseason. Derek Anderson just did less.
