Cleveland Browns lineman Eric Steinbach injures knee

Wednesday, August 08, 2007

Starting left guard Eric Steinbach, the Browns' blockbuster signing of the off-season, fell on his right knee in practice Tuesday afternoon and could miss up to two weeks.
"We're having it evaluated," said coach Romeo Crennel. "We were inside on the turf and he came down on the knee. I would say he bruised it, but I haven't looked at it, and I'm not the doctor, so I don't know."
Steinbach walked off the field about midway through practice with trainer Marty Lauzon and didn't return. He wasn't limping, but his knee brace was loosened. He may have undergone an MRI and wore a sleeve on the knee later in the day.

Quinn signs with Browns

Wednesday, August 8, 2007 3:45 AM
By James Walker

The Columbus Dispatch

BEREA, Ohio -- Now that Brady Quinn has ended his 11-day holdout, don't expect the golden boy to get the golden treatment from the Cleveland Browns.

"What we're going to do is put him at the bottom of the (depth) chart and see where he is," coach Romeo Crennel said. "We'll work with him a little bit, but not at the detriment of the guys who have been here."
Quinn, a Dublin native who was the 22nd overall pick in the NFL draft, signed a five-year, $20.2 million contract yesterday with $7.75 million in guaranteed money. The contract could increase to $30 million if Quinn meets all of his performance incentives.

Brady Quinn, Cleveland Browns agree to contract

Browns QB agrees to $20.2 million deal
Wednesday, August 08, 2007 Tony Grossi
Plain Dealer Reporter
The attributes you hear most about Brady Quinn are "hard worker" and "quick learner." The Browns will find out if those are accurate as the rookie quarterback tries to make up 16 practices missed in an 11-day holdout.
Quinn became the last Browns draft pick in the fold when he and the team agreed to terms on a five-year contract for $20.2 million, including $7.75 million in guarantees.
The maximum value of the deal can reach $30 million if Quinn triggers salary escalators in the fourth and fifth years.

Injuries sneaking up on Browns
By Patrick McManamonBeacon Journal sportswriter
Published on Wednesday, Aug 08, 2007
BEREA: Are injuries starting to creep into the Browns' world?
The team Tuesday sent linebacker Willie McGinest to his personal physician in Los Angeles to have his ailing back examined.
Guard Eric Steinbach then left practice early to have his right knee examined.
Coach Romeo Crennel said Steinbach fell on his knee while the team practiced in the indoor facility and guessed Steinbach had a bruise.
''We're having it evaluated,'' Crennel said.

Steinbach walked off the practice field with no assistance.

You can't get a staph infection from this can you?

If it's possible, it will happen to him for sure. I am sure it is a waiver that he had to sign with his contract, in knowing that he will most likely at some point of his Browns career become victim to a staph infection. :(

Knee sprain for Eric

By TOM WITHERS
The Associated Press BEREA, Ohio (AP) ? Browns offensive guard Eric Steinbach sprained his right knee when he fell on it at practice, an injury the club will surely treat cautiously for the remainder of training camp.
Steinbach, Cleveland's biggest free-agent signing during the offseason, hurt his knee during the Browns' indoor workout on Tuesday. He walked off the field without a limp, escorted by a team trainer, and did not return

The Cleveland curse

By Jason Cole, Yahoo! Sports
August 8, 2007

BEREA, Ohio Inscribed along the inside of Kellen Winslow's lower left arm is what should be the motto of the Cleveland Browns:
"There is no success without struggle."
If years of struggling were the barometer of such things, Cleveland would be this season's Super Bowl favorite. But the Browns' current state pretty much dismisses that possibility.
The quarterback position is in flux as first-round pick Brady Quinn has finally ended his holdout. Pro Bowl center LeCharles Bentley is still recovering from a knee injury and infection that almost led to amputation. And the defensive line just lost its best player, Orpheus Roye, for most, if not all, of training camp. Factor that Cleveland is in the tough AFC North and has a 40-88 record since returning to the NFL in 1999 and you have all the reasons for pessimism.

NFL notebook: Browns lose McGinest to back injury

Friday, August 10, 2007 3:38 AM

ASSOCIATED PRESS

Cleveland Browns linebacker Willie McGinest was scheduled to have back surgery yesterday and will miss at least six weeks.
McGinest, who has made 159 starts during a 13-year NFL career, was to have the operation in Los Angeles.
After a week of rest following the procedure on a bulging disk, he'll begin rehabilitation and the Browns will re-evaluate McGinest in six weeks, coach Romeo Crennel said.

Jamal Lewis, who had surgery on his right ankle in the offseason, has run well in Browns training camp.

BEREA -- Jamal Lewis, who set an NFL record with 295 rushing yards in a game against Cleveland in 2003, is out to prove he still has big performances left.
This season, that could work in Cleveland's favor.
The former Pro Bowler and Baltimore Ravens running back signed a one-year, $3.5 million contract with the Browns during the offseason. Incentives can push the deal to $5 million.
