BROWNS TRAINING CAMP
Latest dirt on Cleveland Browns running game is positive

Friday, August 03, 2007 Tony Grossi
Plain Dealer Reporter
Through seven practices, these have been the sounds of Browns training camp:
Groans for the passing game. Cheers for the running game.
Thursday's session in shorts was typical. The quarterbacks were largely unimpressive, the receivers worse. Braylon Edwards, Travis Wilson and Josh Cribbs had drops.
How much does it matter at this stage of the long season? Well, if they're dropping balls in shorts without cornerbacks and safeties making contact with them, how will they fare with Troy Polamalu and Ed Reed shooting at them in the first month of the season?
"There've been some dropped passes," asserted coach Romeo Crennel. "We're going to keep concentrating on it and try to be better at it."
The running game, now that's a different story.

Ryan Tucker missed time last season for what the Browns called a mental disorder.

BEREA, Ohio -- The Cleveland Browns suffered a major blow on the offensive line yesterday when the NFL announced that tackle Ryan Tucker will be suspended the first four games of the regular season for violating the league's steroid policy.

Tucker, who missed parts of last season because of what the team called a mental disorder, was in the process of working his way back into the picture at right tackle.
"I want to apologize to the fans and my family," Tucker said. "It's been a long road in which I was pretty down and out last year. In my attempt to come back, I took a banned substance."

Browns line will take a hit
Tackle Ryan Tucker suspended 4 games for using steroids during off-season
By Patrick McManamonBeacon Journal sportswriter

BEREA: The Browns must find a right tackle for the first month of the season now that Ryan Tucker has been suspended by the NFL for four games.
Tucker tested positive for steroids in a random off-season test, and he will miss games against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cincinnati Bengals, Oakland Raiders and Baltimore Ravens. The team then has a week to decide his status.

Will a quarterback please step forward?
Frye and Anderson compete for position at camp, but Browns haven't been dazzled by either player
Published on Sunday, Aug 05, 2007

BEREA: The Browns' coaches and front office would have been thrilled if one of the team's quarterbacks had grabbed hold of the job the first week of camp and not let go.
That hasn't happened.
Derek Anderson and Charlie Frye have had a golden opportunity with Brady Quinn absent to make the starting job theirs.
But both have struggled.
In one drill, one would make a good throw, then miss a receiver. In another drill, the other would step forward.
In fact, the positives were infrequent until the past couple of days, when Frye seemed to show signs of ''getting it.'' He had his best practice Wednesday afternoon, then looked decent (not great) in the controlled scrimmage Friday.

Cleveland Browns center LeCharles Bentley's knee 70 percent

Monday, August 06, 2007 Mary Kay Cabot
Plain Dealer Reporter
Browns center LeCharles Bentley said Sunday he thinks his chances of playing this season are still pretty good despite the fact his surgically repaired knee is only about 70 percent healed.
"I'm just staying the course," said Bentley, who attended practice and spoke publicly for the first time since the beginning of camp.
"Things are going pretty well, and we'll just see how they play out."
Bentley, who is currently on the physically unable to perform list and not practicing, said he has a lot of ground to make up before he can pass his Browns physical at the end of this month.
"It's probably I would guess-timate in the high 60s, maybe 70 percent right now," said Bentley. "That 30 percent is a big 30 percent, but it'll never be 100 percent, and I'm not expecting it to be. If I can get it in the 90s, that's good enough. The target date is the end of the month."

Haven't seen any discussion of Gene Hickerson's induction into the Hall of Fame. My dad called me Saturday when the show was live to let me know, but I was out. Got to see it on NFL Network today.

It was a very moving induction. Gene has alzheimer's, and it was not clear just how aware he was what was happening. He was introduced by his son. Then he was brought on stage in his wheelchair by three Hall of Famers he helped get there--Jim Brown, Bobby Mitchell, and Leroy Kelly.

Thanks Gene Hickerson, for all the great memories.

Hey since a lot of you guys are Browns fans, I figured I'd ask here...What's the general consensus among fans with Braylon Edwards? I know he's a UM product so that's one strike against him for you guys, but does anyone expect him to do big things? I read an article saying he's dramatically improved his route running which wasn't bad to start with, and if he stays healthy I think he's primed for a big year. Thoughts?

the only thought on edwards is to catch the ball when it hits him in the hands.

Rookie Wright wins nod as starter at cornerback

Tuesday, August 07, 2007 Mary Kay Cabot
Plain Dealer Reporter
With cornerback Kenny Wright slowed by a strained groin, rookie corner Eric Wright is listed as the starter on the depth chart for Saturday night's preseason home opener against the Chiefs.
"Eric has shown good ability," said Browns coach Romeo Crennel. "He's made some plays, but he's also given up some balls. That's what rookies do."
In anticipation of the start - and to see if he can handle the role full time - the Browns have been picking on Wright for much of the past week.

From everything i've read this off season he's ready to break out..

my thoughts on him, he was a douche last year in the locker room and wasn't making plays between the lines.. so fair to say wasn't a big fan

but like i said, hes been saying all the right things, seems to be a little more mature than he was this time last year, but the reports out of camp are no one can catch a pass, yet again.

for the record, being from scUM dosen't mean he's a strikeout while playing the WR postion.. being from ND and playing any postion does though :)

Tucker tells why he took drug
He says he was trying to regain his health, not get edge on field
By Patrick McManamonBeacon Journal sportswriter
Published on Tuesday, Aug 07, 2007
BEREA: The banned substance that led to Ryan Tucker's suspension was taken as part of his medical regimen when he fought mental health issues last season, Tucker said Monday.
''In no way was I taking anything to gain an unfair advantage or an advantage on the field of play,'' Tucker said.
He did not argue with the suspension, saying: ''No excuses. It was wrong and I'm totally sorry.''

Cleveland Browns lineman Eric Steinbach injures knee

Wednesday, August 08, 2007

Starting left guard Eric Steinbach, the Browns' blockbuster signing of the off-season, fell on his right knee in practice Tuesday afternoon and could miss up to two weeks.
"We're having it evaluated," said coach Romeo Crennel. "We were inside on the turf and he came down on the knee. I would say he bruised it, but I haven't looked at it, and I'm not the doctor, so I don't know."
Steinbach walked off the field about midway through practice with trainer Marty Lauzon and didn't return. He wasn't limping, but his knee brace was loosened. He may have undergone an MRI and wore a sleeve on the knee later in the day.

WELL THAT DIDN'T TAKE LONG! Sounds like it's just precautionary but still this injury shit with the Browns suck.
