in all honesty though, hes really not a huge need for the team, outside of being a homer pick
He's a better QB than brady quinn.. just not as tall

I know his stock has been falling, i didn't know he has fallen all the way to the 4th.. whoever gets him is getting a hell of a player. I guess the 40 time and flordia game are hurting him alot.. but how can you overlook how deadly he was ALL season long?

Pot calling the kettle black much? If some of the QBs the dimwitted ESPiN anal-ists are predicting to go above Troy actually do -- that's a travesty and a huge oversight on their part IMO. Troy is a risk no doubt, but his ceiling is a LOT higher than the hacks they've been throwing out there. And his floor isn't any lower either.

What the team needs is the experience that a Trent Green could bring. The top 3 QB's last year were Frye, Anderson, and Dorsey....where is the experience in that group? That IMO was a big problem last year as far as the development of Frye and/or Anderson. There really is no substitute for having a veteran QB around to help with the development of the future QB.

Is it too late to bring Bernie back? :tongue2:

Dump Anderson and draft Troy. I think this is a possiblity. The Browns seem to want to bring in "Browns People" (I hesitate to use "Browns' fans") and Troy definitely is that. We'll see. I think signing Robaire Smith and Steinbach clears the way from either Quinn or Peterson in Round 1. If Peterson, Smith in Round 2. If Quinn, maybe Staley from Central Michigan in 2.

I think if they pick Troy up they should either go after a badass QB coach(es) or get a vet (as mentioned by others.) If they got a vet, I think they should keep all four. A little competition never hurt anyone, and it may just light a fire under somebody's ass (specifically a Mr. Heisman perhaps?). At least, that's my 2 cents.

Browns might have found a jewel in no-nonsense Smith
Monday, March 19, 2007
By STEVE DOERSCHUK

Robaire Smith, recruited for one of the more boring jobs in the NFL, might emerge as one of the more interesting Browns.

The free-agent defensive lineman's brother, Antonio, was Tom Izzo's first recruit at Michigan State. At 6-foot-8, Antonio Smith was a burlier, less gifted version of Raymar Morgan. Izzo found Robaire's big brother to be accountable and valuable.

Following Michigan State's 73-66 win over Kentucky that sent the Spartans to the 1999 Final Four, Izzo told reporters: "If everyone else is in trouble, Antonio takes the blame. I'm so sick of him saying, 'It's my fault' in the huddle, when I'm getting on someone else, and he's not even involved.

BROWNS NOT COUNTING ON WINSLOW

In response to a tip that we recently received regarding the condition of Browns tight end Kellen Winslow following microfracture surgery on the knee that he initially injured when he made like Evel Knievel in May 2005, we've checked with a couple of our sources and we've determined that the powers that be in Cleveland are not counting on Winslow to be available for the 2007.

"There really is a good chance he won't play this season," a league source told us.

The bigger question, as the source pointed out, is why didn't the Browns shut Winslow down earlier in the 2006 season? They were out of the playoff hunt, and yet Winslow (to the pleasure of fantasy owners only) continued to play despite being listed as questionable nearly every week due to his knee.

"I would have made him have the surgery earlier to make sure he'd be ready for this upcoming season," said the source.

But there are also whispers that, in the wake of the procedure for creating scar tissue that will simulate knee cartilage, Winslow might never be able to play again.

Stay tuned.

Browns keep shelling out upfront for free agents

By Patrick McManamon

Never let it be said the Browns are not active in free agency.
The Browns have added seven players, which ties them with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the most signings in the league.
In a market considered mediocre, the Browns have added two offensive linemen, two defensive linemen, a running back, a linebacker and a cornerback.
This activity continues a trend in the Phil Savage era. The Browns have spent and spent and spent on players from other teams in a frantic attempt to patch holes and to improve.

Mare trade talks not in the picture

Dolphins kicker's stats not all that impressive

By Patrick McManamon

Beacon Journal sportswriter

Rumors circulated last week the Browns had their eyes on Olindo Mare, the Miami Dolphins kicker who is expected to be released now that the Dolphins have added Jay Feely.
The Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel even reported the Browns had been involved in trade talks to acquire Mare.
Here's a question worth asking: Why?

Friedman rejoins Browns with 1-year deal

Wednesday, March 21, 2007 Tony Grossi

Plain Dealer Reporter
The patchwork approach to shoring up the Browns' offensive line continued on Tuesday when the club re-signed Lennie Friedman to a one-year contract.
Friedman provides depth at all three interior positions. He played both guard spots and center for one series last year after joining the team only 17 days before the season-opener. Friedman made one start at right guard and one at left guard.
Friedman is the fourth interior lineman the Browns have signed in the last month. The others were center Hank Fraley, another holdover from 2006 who re-upped for four years, and veteran free agents Eric Steinbach (seven years) and Seth McKinney (one year).

Lerner: We've got to win more games'

Thursday, March 22, 2007Mary Kay Cabot
Plain Dealer Reporter
The Browns are 25-48 since owner Randy Lerner inher ited the team in October 2002, and no one is more disgusted with the losing than Lerner himself.
So when it comes to talk of who's on the hot seat following the 4-12 campaign in 2006, Lerner points to no one but himself.
Granted, he says he has no intention of selling the Browns, but if he finds he doesn't have what it takes to turn this once-proud franchise around, one gets the sense he'll turn it over to someone else.

how about this nugget?

Cleveland Browns

Are the Browns really resigned to another season of having Charlie Frye and Derek Anderson as their only quarterbacking options? Don't count on it. Even if you don't believe that No. 3 Cleveland will make a move to acquire the No. 1 pick from Oakland and select LSU quarterback JaMarcus Russell -- who goes back a ways with Browns GM Phil Savage -- there are those who remain convinced that Romeo Crennel's team badly wants Notre Dame's Brady Quinn. And here's some insider scoop from deep within the Quinn camp: As he made known on a number of occasions, the Browns are Quinn's top choice. No matter what he says publicly, Oakland's chaotic situation is not where he wants to land, and Quinn isn't much interested in Detroit either, given that he has heard Lions offensive coordinator Mike Martz can be strange at times.

I have conceded myself to the probability that the Browns will indeed select Quinn. Besides all of the other inside info which may or may not be true, the pattern in the last few years leads me to believe he is our pick. I absolutely couldn't stand Kellen Winslow while he was at Miami, so of course Cleveland takes him. I absolutely couldn't stand Braylon Edwards while he was at Michigan, so of course Cleveland takes him. Do you see where I'm going with this? Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst....

Jesus dude, you need an intervention. Don't let those thoughts of dread overwhelm you. I know it's tough being a Browns fan, but Brady Quinn? Do you really believe God hates the Browns??
