Cleveland Browns (2007 & prior)

He's proven nothing in the NFL and can't believe that he would be much of an improvement over Frye or Anderson.
I can understand not being totally sold on Schaub, but Frye and Anderson are back-ups in the NFL. I don't think either should be a starter in the league unless there is an injury to the real starter. I guess you could say neither impresses me at all.

Doubtful they would take him in the 2nd, but if he is available in the 3rd I could see them taking him.

Taking off my homer glasses...

The Browns don't need another developemental QB in the 3rd or 4th round. They need a proven vet or a top 3 QB.

I still think Trent Green would be a nice fit for a couple of years until we could develope a guy.

Cincinatti declines matching offer on Smith, according to KFFL. He's officially a Brown. Good addition.

Shaun Smith,
Smith has good size and athletic skills. He reacts with above-average play recognition to blocking patterns. Against the run, he is a short-area player who has some functional strength at the point of attack. He has above average technique. He can hold his ground against some double-team blocks, allowing his linebacker to stay clean and play inside-out to ball carriers. He is an upfield power rusher in the passing game. But Smith struggles to disengage from blocks and lacks quality range. He isn't ver explosive with his hands. He struggles to play laterally down the line of scrimmage. He lacks good initial quickness to get on the edge of blockers and close on quarterbacks. He has a limited array of pass-rush countermoves.

I really do understand that point, and I would rather see them stick with Anderson or Frye rather than bring in a has-been like Green or Bledsoe. I would love to see them get Troy for a number of reasons. Keep Frye or Anderson and see if Troy develops into the QB that I think he will. I am just one of those who believe that he will be a good QB in the NFL and would rather see him on my team than someone else's. I don't believe that a retread old QB is what this team needs right now either, any more than keeping Charlie or DA who have some cred with the current players and already know the plays and the coaches. But say that we do get Trent or Drew, would you rather develop Frye, Anderson or Troy Smith for your future?

What the team needs is the experience that a Trent Green could bring. The top 3 QB's last year were Frye, Anderson, and Dorsey....where is the experience in that group? That IMO was a big problem last year as far as the development of Frye and/or Anderson. There really is no substitute for having a veteran QB around to help with the development of the future QB.

Dump Anderson and draft Troy. I think this is a possiblity. The Browns seem to want to bring in "Browns People" (I hesitate to use "Browns' fans") and Troy definitely is that. We'll see. I think signing Robaire Smith and Steinbach clears the way from either Quinn or Peterson in Round 1. If Peterson, Smith in Round 2. If Quinn, maybe Staley from Central Michigan in 2.

Could not agree more.

Hard to say without seeing how Troy adjusts to the NFL. Will he be Ryan Leaf, Phillip Rivers, or somewhere in between? Of the QB's on the roster now, I would try to develope Frye.

Agree 100%. I would rather see Trent Green then Bledsoe. First off, I think green has more left in the tank then bledsoe. Secondly, I think Bledsoe might get upset if he had to sit on the bench and was not the starter. Just my opinion. Also, I would love to see Troy in a Browns uniform but I am starting to wonder about him. I worry that he might not be as focused in the pro's as he was in college. I really think he is going to miss the leadership and structure that coach tressel and staff kept with the program. Again, I'd love to see troy with the browns but his extra weight issue and stuff lilke that worries me a bit but again just my opinion.
