The Saints also signed a pro bowl QB, drafted a game-changing RB/WR, and stole the NFL's most productive WR (yds pre injury) in the 7th round...and already had a top DE on their roster.

Yeah, what's the name of that up and coming stud DE on that team again.....hmmmm......?????

Browns find more line help Link

The Associated Press
CLEVELAND (AP) ? The Cleveland Browns signed offensive lineman Seth McKinney to a one-year contract on Wednesday, adding another versatile player to strengthen their weakest unit.
McKinney, who started 34 games in five seasons with the Miami Dolphins, missed all of last season after having surgery to repair a disc in his neck. The 6-foot-3, 310-pounder can play guard and center.

My take is this guy is another lineman who can play either guard or center which gives them more flexibility with the O-Line and more depth. Except for the neck surgery he has been pretty durable and he has blocked for a couple of 1,000 yard rushers in his career. I think all in all this is a great pickup for the Browns. GO BROWNIES!

Adam Caplan, reporting for Scout.com, has informed the OBR that Robaire Smith has reach an agreement for a four-year deal with the Cleveland Browns. The 6' 4", 310-pound Smith is entering his eighth NFL season, and will play defensive end for the Browns. Smith has played for the Tennessee Titans as well as the Houston Texans, but was cut by the Texans after Gary Kubiak arrived in Houston and altered the defensive scheme.

Again just like the McKinney signing I think this is possibly a significant upgrade for the Brownies. Let's face it our D-line is pretty old and Smith is only about 30 years old. He is also rated as one of the best DT's on the free agent market. Plus it isn't like we are bringing in a guy who is a career backup. He has been a capable starter with the Titans for a number of years. Another excellent pickup by the Browns. I think its time Savage and the staff get some credit for the moves they are making this offseason. Who knows what might happen this year with all of the offseason additions and a good draft we might be talking playoffs sooner rather than later. GO BROWNIES!!!

Cleveland collects another lineman

Continuing to fortify their offensive line, the Cleveland Browns on Wednesday signed former Miami Dolphins guard/center Seth McKinney to a one-year contract.
The 6-foot-3,310-pound McKinney played in 61 games in five seasons with the Dolphins, starting 34. Originally a third-round draft pick in 2002, he spent last season on injured-reserve following surgery to repair a disk in his neck.

Browns part ways with FB Smith

Posted by Tony Grossi March 14, 2007 16:16PM

The Browns terminated the contract of fullback Terrelle Smith today, making the seven-year veteran a free agent.

Smith had one year left on a four-year contract he signed in 2004. He was due an undisclosed roster bonus this week and the Browns did not want to pay it.

Plain Dealer file photoFullback Terrelle Smith was released by the Browns today.
The move leaves Lawrence Vickers, a sixth-round pick in 2006, as the team's only fullback.
Smith's star fell after Vickers' acquisition. Smith started only eight games last season, his fewest in three years with the Browns.

Browns may add a pair of Smiths

Plain Dealer Reporter
The Browns' defensive line - an area of need that has been overshadowed by the focus on the offensive line - is about to gain two reinforcements named Smith.
The team has reached an agreement with Tennessee free agent Robaire Smith on a four-year deal, according to sources. The Browns will not confirm the acquisition until the contract actually is signed.

Browns | Team eyeing quarterbacks
Thu, 15 Mar 2007 21:28:55 -0700

Steve Doerschuk, of the Canton Repository, reporting for the Sporting News, reports the Cleveland Browns have been monitoring what it would take to pry restricted free-agent QB Matt Schaub (Falcons) away from the Atlanta Falcons in a draft-related trade. They also have been studying Houston Texans QB David Carr.

Interesting. If I had my choice of the two, I'd prefer Schaub.

I keep hoping something happens with Schaub. Atlanta will get nothing for him after this year. I'd be happy with a 2nd and a 4th. Atlanta overestimated what they could get for him when they rejected the deal for the late 1st last year.

Me too, but I wouldn't give up a whole lot for him. He's fairly unproven and pretty similar to Frye. More of a west coast offense guy meaning that he is good at the short route passes, but not much on the long ball. I do think his progressions are better than Charlie, but not a huge upgrade.

Yeah, I have heard that the Falcons are trying to get two #2's (one this year and one next) for him. That's too much. I would actually hate to give up a #2 at all for the guy. He's proven nothing in the NFL and can't believe that he would be much of an improvement over Frye or Anderson. I would rather see them try to get someone in the draft *cough* Troy Smith *cough*.
