Cleveland Browns (2007 & prior)

I kind of liked Russell, that's a bummer. McCutcheon was well past his prime.
I would like to see us re-sign McCutcheon at a lower price. He's the only player left from the original expansion team, and I'd like to see him retire from the Browns. Even if it means playing special teams.

McManamon on the Browns

`He's not done by any means'

NFL exec assesses signing of Jamal Lewis; critics say it's no gain, but ex-teammates back big back

By Patrick McManamon

Eric Steinbach is the guts of the Browns' free-agent class, but the running back always gets the glory.
So it's worth asking: Is the Jamal Lewis the Browns signed the same Jamal Lewis who ran for 2,000 yards a few years ago for the Baltimore Ravens, or is he the guy who averaged 3.4 and 3.6 yards per carry the past two years?
In his prime, Lewis was a freak. A 245-pound back with speed who could run over a linebacker or safety. Even today, those who have watched Lewis say no linebacker wants to take him on when he's going full speed.

Cleveland can now skip the popular notion that Adrian Peterson was its pick at the No. 3 spot. Some teams right below them that were hoping the Browns would take Peterson and let a quality player like OT Joe Thomas or DE Gaines Adams fall to them. But now they have to seriously consider calling the Browns and offer something to move up, or they'll miss on their targeted player.

Peterson's stock hasn't dropped one bit, but the "need" for a back has changed. The Browns now will now have Jamal Lewis and probably Joe Thomas, or they could move down a few spots, pick up a terrific prospect like Brady Quinn, Alan Branch or Levi Brown, and come back with an extra second-round pick and take a cornerback like Aaron Ross.

I would guess Detroit and Cleveland are going to entertain a lot of calls about trading down, and both teams would be smart to listen. I remember the year the Redskins moved down twice in the first round. If Phil Savage or Matt Millen ever drop two to three spots and then drop again another two to three spots, they could really put a great draft together

If we are really serious about building a playoff-caliber team, I think its in our best interest to trade down. One superstar can only do so much for this team. I love AP to but he alone won't help us win games, we will be like San Diego last year, the most exciting team that didnt make the playoffs, or like the Lions with Barry Sanders and no one else. We can build a team with more than servicable players and become solid in every position. Thats what a winning team does

Starting to get rather excited for things to get rolling this season with the Browns. Every year they do just enough to give me that tiny sliver of hope before squashing it in either week 1 or 2 depending on how bad the loss is.

How many wins would satisfy you as a Browns fan this season? I'm going to say 8, although after a decade of losing, 9 would be VERY nice, but I'm not expecting either.

I'm sick of baby steps and backpeddling. I want the goddamn playoffs. I know that's rather unrealistic, but how many other down-trodden teams have done it in the past 5-10 years. San Diego, Carolina, St. Louis, Baltimore, even the friggin' Bungles.

I'll be happy when the Browns get a kick-ass attitude about themselves. Stop taking the blows and start giving them. Then that will eventually translate to wins

And don't forget about New Orleans. They damn near made it to the Superbowl. But that's okay because we will pick up where they left off. We will have a great draft...sneak our way into the playoffs and finally get to the SUPERBOWL. GO BUCKS AND GO BROWNIES!

I would LOVE the playoffs too, but I haven't forgotten who our QBs are. Regardless of line play, I don't think it's going to happen w/Frye or anyone else we have on the roster right now. Don't get me wrong, I'd kill for 10/11 wins, I just don't see it happening. Who knows, maybe we can establish a wicked ground game.

Using New Orleans is a terrible comparison because of Brees alone.

Brees wasn't very good in his first two seasons as a starter either, and he actually had Tomlinson there the whole time. His third year as a starter (actually his fourth year in the league) the light came on and he ended up with a 27/7 TD/Int ratio and had a 104.8 QB rating. I'm not sure if Charlie is the guy or not, but I'm also not ready to throw in the towel on the guy.

What I was saying was that New Orleans turned it around basically overnight. That's why I said you never really know what can happen and that Cleveland could be this years New Orleans. GO BROWNIES! WOOF! WOOF! WOOF!
