CLEVELAND ? Browns wide receivers coach Terry Robiskie, who served as Cleveland's interim head coach for the final five games in 2004, will not be retained next season, a person with knowledge of the decision said Thursday night.

Coming off a 1988 playoff season, Browns Head Coach Marty Schottenheimer was asked to make staff changes that included his brother Kurt. Schottenheimer refused, ending his relationship with the Browns.

Crennel probably won't go so soon

Browns may be in bidding war for Cowher after 2007 season

The odds that the Browns will change their coach went from slim to slimmer Friday when Bill Cowher insisted he will not coach in the NFL in 2007. That takes him off the playing field for any NFL team looking for a coach during the offseason (or one pondering a change), but means that he'll be a top candidate in 2008.
``The only thing that I'm looking forward to is spending time with my family,'' Cowher said at a news conference announcing his resignation. ``And I'm really looking forward to it.''

Browns' receivers coach is first to go

The Browns started overhauling their offensive coaching staff Thursday.
Receivers coach Terry Robiskie, who has been with the team since Butch Davis was hired as coach in 2001 and who served as interim coach when Davis was fired, was told he would not return.
Though Robiskie is well liked by his players, the move is not a huge surprise.

BEREA Injuries, not matching opponents' strength in the trenches and in-house friction, may have cost Browns strength-and-conditioning coach John Lott his job. The club announced Lott's release Friday in addition to confirming assistant offensive coaches Terry Robiskie, Carl Crennel II and Ben Coates won't be back. All four joined the Browns shortly after Romeo Crennel, Carl's uncle, was hired as head coach in 2005.

Browns quarterback Charlie Frye is ready to fight this off-season to keep his starting job.
Coach Romeo Crennel said Monday that Frye has a leg up in the competition, but said Derek Anderson deserves a look. Crennel didn't rule out bringing in someone else.

They follow receivers coach Terry Robiskie and offensive quality control coach Carl Crennel II, whose terminations became known on Thursday.

Coach will remain for 2007, official says

The unofficial and unsanctioned Romeo Crennel death watch can cease.
The Browns have decided that Crennel will remain the team's coach for the 2007 season.
That word came through Bill Bonsiewicz, the team's vice president for communication, who responded to a question about the team's commitment to Crennel for 2007 by saying: ``Romeo is our coach.''

Team needs to be patient, develop veteran core

The Browns look back on the misery of the 2006 season and compare their situation to that of another NFL team.
The Baltimore Ravens were 6-10 a year ago and discussed firing Brian Billick, the Browns say.
They're now AFC North champs and have a first-round bye, the Browns say again.
