View from Pluto: Browns plan changes

Over half the stuff in there is about freaking Edwards.

On the subject of firing Crennel -- I agree that he is far from the final solution. But firing him right now is pretty much on par with the way we've gone through QBs. This isn't a job anyone is thrilled about, so unless I'm missing something and there is a great coach who is interested -- we'll just be in the same boat 3 years from now after firing him and hiring somebody like... Glenn Mason (it honestly wouldn't surprise me). The only worthwhile hire I can think of right now, could be Parcells. I can't stand him, but he'd definitely light a fire under some guys -- and that is what we need right now.
I still think Crennel can build our defense up. In a couple of years when the cupboard isn't bare (on defense), we can snag a better coach.

hey, if the team would show just any sign of improvement I would agree with keeping Crennel, but they are getting worse and the lack of intensity in each game is glaring for me.....stop hiring coordinators and get a guy who has previous head coaching experience.

With all fo the hiring/firings that will happen in the next few weeks, I think we just need to wait and see. If there is no better than Romeo available, then we keep him. If a veteran coach is out there, now may be the time to change (again).
That being said, I'd love to see him stay on as the DC.

BROWNS NOTEBOOK
Players give coach vote of confidence

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

HOUSTON ? Players said yesterday that they hope any changes borne of their 4-12 season do not affect the job status of coach Romeo Crennel.
"He?s one of the reasons why I?m here," linebacker Willie McGinest said. "Romeo is not a quitter, and I?m not a quitter. There?s a handful of guys that are not going to quit, but we have to turn it around." Cleveland?s 14-6 loss to the Houston Texans capped Crennel?s second season. He is 10-22.

Bad to the finish

Texans put Browns out of their misery

By Patrick McManamon

Beacon Journal sportswriter

HOUSTON - The Browns ended their season Sunday the way they started it: By making too many mistakes in a dismal loss.
The 14-6 loss to the Houston Texans left the Browns at 4-12, with two fewer wins than 2005 and with more questions heading into the future.

Limited Frye plays through big pain

Injured quarterback completes 25-of-34, ends season on field

By Patrick McManamon

Beacon Journal sportswriter

HOUSTON - Either Charlie Frye was playing the NFL subterfuge game, or he decided late in the week he had to play in the season finale.
After barely practicing during the week, Frye started against Houston -- and made it sound as if he did so to prove a point.

Yes, but everybody has injuries. The attitude is more of the problem....

True that everyone has injuries, but what the Browns went through this year is beyond the norm. How many of the Browns starting offensive linemen from Game 1 started yesterday's game?!?

I will admit they have had a unusual amount of key injuries but their performances cannot be soley contributed to the injuries. It's not only the head coach, its the staffs inability to control their players and develop their draft picks and don't even get me started on the front office.....they may be the worst organization in the league right now, that includes Detroit who went on the road at Dallas and won........

Browns end season same old way
UPDATE: 4:08 PM, Sunday, December 31, 2006

HOUSTON (AP) - The Texans weren't good on Sunday. The Browns were worse.

Houston was outgained 306 to 177 yards, but got a 14-6 win over Cleveland (4-12) thanks to several costly errors by the Browns.
The victory gives the Texans (6-10) back-to-back wins for the first time since 2004 and marks the first time Houston has won a season finale.

Many changes are necessary, starting with the attitude
Monday, January 1, 2007

HOUSTON Keeping with tradition, the Browns had a little pork and sauerkraut Sunday. They played like stuffed pigs and smelled like sauerkraut.

Happy New Year. Are you ready for more football in 2007? The players didn't look to be. Right after 295-pound Anthony Maddox stripped Charlie Frye, recovered the ball and raced 47 yards for a touchdown, Cleveland's sideline might as well have looked to the opening in Reliant Stadium's retractable roof for the ball to drop.
