Browns now punch line since Bengals no longer joke

ROB OLLER

One thing about acting dumb, someone else always finds a way to act dumber. The kid who plays with matches is trumped by the one who plays with matches and gasoline. The bank robber who waves a toy gun is one-upped by the one who waves at the security camera. The deer hunter who forgets to wear orange looks intelligent compared with the one who crawls through the forest on all fours.

Just a little parallel here. When the Broncos, under Shanny and Elway were legitimate contenders for every Super Bowl for about 4-5 years, Shanny went out and paid a whopping amout of $ for a lineman that was the last key piece to their puzzle. Mind you though that they always had a good offensice line. The missing link was Gary Zimmerman.

By Patrick McManamon

Beacon Journal sportswriter

Amid the turmoil of the Browns' season, some players have gone about their business -- professionally and well.

View from Pluto: Browns plan changes

BROWNS PLAN CHANGES Crennel could be replaced. Major changes in staff certain. Edwards likely to get new shot

There will be big changes on the Browns' coaching staff even if coach Romeo Crennel survives -- and that's not a guarantee. It's no secret that the Browns have major concerns about several people on his staff, and one of the conditions of Crennel returning will be whether he is willing to go along with a major shakeup.

BROWNS BEAT STEVE DOERSCHU

I was born during one of the years a Brown named Paul coached the Browns to an NFL championship.

I was following the Browns when a Brown named Jim was running the ball. I?ve covered the Browns on and off since the late 1970s ? strictly on since 1999.
