Clarett spilling the beans

Looking around, none of the other major sports sites are even reporting it, so I think this is ESPN's attempt at concocting something after the fact to manufacture a big story (and I thought Olbermann left ESPN).

"What would have become of Ohio State if I said everything?'' Clarett told The Magazine. "Half the team would have been suspended, and it would have been worse for everybody. I was like, 'Why don't I just take it?'"

I guess I never realized MoC was such a team player, taking the fall for the team and everything.

BTW, yes, im being sarcastic.

Another former Buckeyes player, current Maryland running back Sammy Maldonado, says he was placed in so many courses that did not put him on the road to graduation that only 17 of a possible 40 credits earned would transfer to his new school.

Just a bit of background info regarding Sammy Maldonado's comments...

Anybody who enrolled at OSU or has a kid there knows that ohio state is on the quarter system. Maryland, like the majority of other universities, is on the semester system which creates a huge discrepency between the number of credits which are credited at OSU and other semester based universities.

For example, the average quarterly class at OSU is worth 5 credits. The same exact class at a school at Maryland would only be worth 3 credits just because of the difference in systems. This difference is quite pronounced when you see that it often takes up to 180 quarterly credits to graduate at OSU while it only takes as few as 120 to graduate from most semester based universities.

When i recenetly attempted to transfer my undergrad classes at Ohio State to Arizona State, i was shocked to learn that ASU was only able to accept 20.6 of my 41 quarterly credits because the admissions departments at semester based schools multiply all quarterly work by 0.6 to convert quarter credits into the semester system.

What i'm trying to say here is that Maldonado claiming that "he was placed in so many courses that did not put him on the road to graduation" is absolute BULLSHIT because no matter how many credits you successfully earn at a quarter based university like OSU, any student who transfers to a semester based system is going to lose an incredible amount of credits on paper. So don't let anybody tell you that the OSU counselors are inadequately preparing their students during their time at Ohio State.

Imagine if you had this guy on your NFL team and you were going to play in the Super Bowl in two weeks. What would you do? I would lock the psycho in a room for that period and only let him out to play.

It's not bad enough he has to destroy his own life, but has to try and bring down everyone else around him.

I posted this before but removed it because I wasn't sure about the reaction.

Anway, here goes again.

Week of the Fiesta Bowl when all the press was talking about was Clarett's friend's funeral and how the University was lying, etc. etc.

Well, that week after Thursday practice Clarett was running his mouth in the locker room and some of the seniors had had enough.

Kenny Peterson grabbed Clarett and put him up against the wall and said "There are too many guys on this team who have been through a lot to get here. We are NOT going to let you take this away from them!"

Clarett just said "I'm straight." That was it.

Take this for what it's worth, but that story came to me from a friend who was in the locker room (as a guest of Coach Tressel's) and was there with Mike Nugent. Eyewitness account.
Like I said, take it for what it's worth.

OilerBuck: Reecie tries to play himself as a freakin' martyr now?
Mo_of_Ark

Oiler - it would not surprise me in the least to see 2 weeks from today probably siphoned thru the Plain Dealer --- painting himself again as a social pioneer ---
this quote from a possible MoC future:

"Really I jes' wanted everyone to see how ludicrous it is for NCAA athletes NOT to be able to get money and stuff. We are pros in everything but name. I bear no ill will to ...."

ESPN:

"If his wallet's too fat, we must investigate THAT!"
I had a hearing yesterday where this fucking guy actually said in arguing his client's case that what we were doing "Yo honner is what I like to call playing the Shift the Blame Name Game" in his best Johnnie Cochran schtick. Not entirely irrelevant here considering MoC and his Jim Brown posse. What a bunch of fucking assholes.

Not true. Maldonado announced his transfer on January 29, 2002 link. I agree that the ESPN sources lack integrity and have motive to lash out at OSU, but let's not get into the habit of refuting their reporting without hard evidence ourselves.
Yeah, that would the BKA way of handling things. ...Using "facts" and "reason" and "evidence". In times like these though a PCP approach may be more prudent. It's time to fight misinformation and random BS with the same! I say we send ESPN and their columnists a bunch of PCP emails. It is French Diplomacy Tuesday after all - it's time to reach out to the the media!

So devily as the devil is in the details, Sammy should only have seen a maximum of 24 UMD credits for the 40 tOSU credits he carried from campus. That he saw less than that may reflect on degree of class completion?

Why would a Wooky, an eight-foot-tall Wooky, want to live on Endor with a bunch of two-foot-tall Ewoks. That does not make sense. [...] It does not make sense. Look at me. I'm a lawyer defending a major university and I'm talkin' about Chewbacca. Does that make sense? Ladies and Gentlemen I'm am not making any sense. None of this makes sense. And so you have to remember when you're in that jury room deliberating and conjugating the Emancipation Proclamation, does it make sense? No. Ladies and Gentlemen of this deposed jury it does not make sense. If Chewbacca lives on Endor you must acquit. The defense rests.

I have family in Columbus that are close to ex-players and are good friends with the coaching staff, including Tressel. One of them is one of Tressel and Bolman's golfing buddy. They told me last spring that Clarett told the staff that he was gonna get OSU back for turning their backs on Maurice when he got in trouble. He wanted OSU to pay off the cops and/or get him out of this using their power in the city and he was pissed that they didn't help him out like that.
At the time, we all thought it was just hot air and once Maurice makes the pros it will all blow over. Well, when Mo was turned down by the NFL, his master plan started to take effect. He once said that he was gonna do anything possible to get "paid".

As far as Cooper and Maldonado go, both hated Ohio State. Cooper because he thought he could do whatever he wanted and get away with it and he was mad that Tressel kicked him off the team for what he called things that didn't warrant getting kicked off the team. Sammy wasn't even at OSU when Tressel got there, so I have no idea what he's talking about.

Back to the Clarett shit...a few months after the Fiesta Bowl, my cousins told me that there was alot of shit going on between Mo and the staff concerning Mo's secret requests for benefits, which were denied, including, the plane flight home to see his friends funeral. Even though that isn't really a benefit, Clarett felt that he was the star and should get plane rides anywhere he wanted. He even made mention that he wanted a car. He was also constantly complaining about not having any money and resorted to getting some from his friend in Youngstown which he got into trouble for. He thought OSU should be paying him something for his time. Clarett didn't want to study because he thought he could challenge the NFL rule and win so OSU stuck him some easy classes and got him the attention just to pass....nothing was done illegally here, just to let you all know.

Basically, from the time Maurice got to OSU, he was constantly asking for things and was always complaining that the school wasn't "showing him any love."

Now, someone apparently told him that he could fuck over Ohio State and it might show well with NFL execs if he came up with a story like this (which I find hard to believe). He wanted to clear his name by lying and bringing other people down.

Anyways, I'll let you guys know if I hear anything else. I'm not all shocked at this. Alot of us thought this would happen. I'm just pissed off that he actually did it. Clarett is one disturbed kid.
