Another take on that
My question is, what are we seeing as ESPN catches the wind about just how much damage they are doing to their own brand? Who is this mysterious NFL guy they interview? Nonsense.
ESPN market researchers are looking at Buckeye Planet and other discussion groups. You don't have to see the quick polls and focus group results to know that ESPN has really, really damaged their brand and that the discussion is focusing on how the Buckeye nation should "shop elsewhere". Remember, less than 1% share movement can have some big financial implications. Ask anyone in professional marketing and brand management, ESPN management are crapping themselves over this.
Personally, I'm not so easily placated. I don't care how many supportive articles they run or how they try to stage manage their way out of this with well-crafted sighs and "candid" expressions of support for Tressel and OSU. I know that it doesn't matter how conversational it seems, almost everything people say on ESPN is rolling on the teleprompter in front of them. I'm not willing to tune in and watch that "villain" Trev so that "my guy" Herbie can save the day. Our villain is UM's hero. I don't want Mutt and Jeff, I just want good and objective sports reporting and it has been some time since I've seen that on ESPN.
This has been great because I used to only tune into ESPN. I didn't know how much better cbssportsline.com and SSI.com have become. If ESPN aren't broadcasting OSU, I won't be watching.
Clarity, I think that is a great assessment but that it is exactly what people are seeing.Clarity said:"I, Maurice Clarett, stuck my hand out towards everyone I was introduced to. I expected to be taken care of, and was bitter and angry when that was taken away. None of this is my fault, it's Tressel's fault for turning his back on me. Nothing is my fault, there's always someone else who carries responsibility for the things I do."
Honestly, no one outside of the OSU fanbase will probably see it that way...
But you're right, there's definitely an article to write there, they just wrote the wrong one.
